Makes great ice, however, we haven’t had this one for a complete month and it’s already making noise. We owned another previously and they typically seem to start having problems on the third year. Love the ice, just wish the ice maker was more reliable. Worth it if you don’t mind the price.

Great, for 14 MONTHS, good thing I purchased the extended warranty. Brought it in for repair due to Loud Screeching Noises (that seems to be a common thing). Best Buy states they can't get the part to repair it. They issued a store credit. WILL NOT BUY AGAIN. That said, absolutely loved the Ice this thing made. We cleaned it per the manual with bleach and purified bottled water and only used it with purified bottled water. Something this expensive should last longer than that! If we had not purchased the extended warranty, we'd of been quite unhappy. One thing of note, if the unit is deemed not repairable and you are issued store credit or a replacement, the original service plan/warranty that you purchase is not transferable to the new one your purchase to replace it. I purchased a 4 year extended warranty for about $70. If that warranty would of transferred to the replacement, I might of purchased another of this model. We'll miss the great ice this thing made. Perhaps GE Profile - Opal 3.0 will resolve the issues that 1.0 & 2.0 had/have

This thing is awesome! It’s replacing a three-year-old Opal 1.0. This 2.0 is a nice upgrade. It’s faster, quieter, and smarter than the original. It’s Wi-Fi vs the original’s Bluetooth and the app is much better and faster. The side tank is a must! Also a must? Distilled water!

Love, love, love the Opal Ice Maker. It's not noisy as described by many. We waited two to three years to purchase because of the high price tag and complaints about noise. Our fridge ice-maker makes more noise than the Opal and if you are not in the kitchen, you don't hear it. We love the ice and it makes our drinks taste better. Wished it would keep the ice rather than melting and remaking but overall, we love the product and it is deserving of five stars. We would like to see the price come down but as for the product, it's great. Treat yourself today and get yours! You will be pleasantly surprised!

Keeps up with the household eating ice. Does make a noise when its to close to the wall. I pray it last longer than a yr.

Bought this unit a month ago. Read tons of reviews on many different units. I decided to spend the extra money and splurge on Opal 2.0 with side tank. When I read other reviews, it was hard to understand if the problems folks were having was because they didn't clean the unit per GE recommendations or what but this unit has been great so far. I do recommend purchasing the water filter. It doesn't come with one which is ridiculous for $600 Ice machine not to get a $20 water filter, c'mon GE you have to be better than that. Charge me $20 more to have it included. SMH. Rant over, I do recommend spending the $20 instead of using their little screen filter. Also, the one change I made instead of using filtered water from the fridge or tap water was I purchase distilled water for the unit. I read other reviews, and some recommended it so I thought I would try it. It's a pain to get the jugs of distilled water but in the long run I think it is better for the unit and for the best tasting ice you will have. If you don't purchase the optional water filter, I feel distilled water is a must. That little screen filter they give you is a joke. Per other reviews I did purchase the 4yr Best Buy warranty just in case this unit. Never owning one before I thought it was wise to listen to others and purchase it. What is another $80 when you are spending what you are spending for this unit. This is addicting, I drink more water and just love crunching on the ice. Hope this helps others.

My wife is in HEAVEN. She says the ice consistency is perfect and she uses it multiple times a day every day. It’s the perfect size to sit on a countertop and fit below a cabinet. The side load water reservoir is a must! I will say, it is quite loud when producing ice. This is easily solved by the scheduling option through the app, however. I have it programmed to run overnight and then in the middle of the day when no one is home. Definitely could not watch TV or do any other family activity while it’s running. Also, the fact that it says it has to be descaled every 3 weeks is a mild irritant. All that being said, the end result more than makes up for the small annoyances. If anyone in your family likes that Taco Time/Chic-Fil-a nugget ice, this machine will be a home run.

Awesome product. Probably the most bougie thing we ever bought but we’ll worth it. Starts making ice quickly. Drinks are so much better. We even bought the red plastic restaurant cups to use with it. It does take up some space and you can hear it but it’s not too loud. Easy set up. All in all an excellent purchase.

My entire family uses this nonstop and we love it. The ice cubes are a great size and with the continuance production, we never run out. I wish it didn’t need cleaning so often because then it’s out of commission for 2 days. The side tank is so convenient to keep ice production going constantly.

Gifted this to my wife for Mother’s Day and let’s just say “Happy wife, happy life”. The ice is soft and chewable and it makes about a pound an hour as advertised. It makes a small whirring noise when it’s making ice but nothing too disturbing. I dropped a star because of what I’m calling a design flaw as some water leaked from the device that makes the ice atop the ice bucket resulting in some water in the bottom of the bucket and some “wet” ice. (See pic). Otherwise extremely pleased with the product. Price is a bit steep but again if it makes the wife happy…

Very easy to set up and get working. Does take up a good amount of counter space, plus make sure lines are ran in matter they dont air lock. Produces ice fast. Keeps up with need of 4 people. Time will tell build quality. Did buy extended warranty due to other reviews. Ice is chewable pellets - reminds me of hospital or restaurant ice. I personally use all day long with 32oz cup keeping full of ice and water. It is quiet until making ice, which isnt very loud. Power bill same as always.

This is my 3rd machine and I love it! It’s like Sonic Ice but better! (No offense Sonic) They take little to no set-up and learning. Super easy, low maintenance, and AMAZING ICE! I believe they start producing ice within 12 minutes (maybe a bit more/or less) and I can tell you the ice bin (in a family of 4) is hardly ever full but never disappoints in producing enough. I started searching for an ice machine in 2019 after realizing how much money my bf and I were putting out for Sonic's Ice every week.... I FOUND IT very quickly. My 1st machine (the Opal 1) came from Amazon! It lasted for 2 + years and over 4 moves. Then came my 1st Opal 2.0 - which is a way better machine, with wifi and app capabilities, scheduling and interior light, etc etc and it’s a huge step up from the original machine - way to go GE! But it just got replaced by Best Buy due to a faulty sensor - it happens but Best Buy had it sent out, serviced, and word back to me in a week… which is before the 2 ½ week expected timeframe they gave me to expect word back by (6/2/24) - it was being replaced ... NO COMPLAINTS! I got word yesterday(5/23/24) and the new one today and all set up. I love these machines so much and have a lot of friends and my aunt turned on to them. If you’re looking for a countertop NUGGET ice machine - Give it a try! You will not be disappointed!!! Oh, and btw, The cleaning is NOT difficult or tiresome either. It’s a simple and easy process! Also, I should note… Best Buy’s protection is BY FAR -- THE BEST. I don't buy from anywhere else after realizing how beneficial it is over others to the consumer. BEST BUY takes care of their customers and your devices/appliances and turnover is pretty good.

2 years and going strong making fabulous ice day in and day out. We did discover that our community water is not that great and even with a filter on our water it doesn’t produce the best quality ice we prefer with lower machine maintenance so we do use distilled water only. We don’t mind the small extra expense knowing the ice is quality and we don’t have to flush and clean the system as much. Using our filtered water we were having to flush it once a month but with the distilled water we can go 2-3 months. The ice doesn’t melt and stays true to the pellet shape and we all guarantee our drinks and happiness is way better then plain ice made any other way. We plan to get another one so we can have one in our media room and keep this one for our downstairs. Best purchase and worth every penny we spent, making this one happy mama who rarely gives a wish list at Christmas. This was the best gift requested and received!!!! We all be benefit from it.

The ice is incredible and convenient. The ice machine works very well. The only pain is cleaning the machine. This machine has to be cleaned at least every 2 to 3 weeks. Fantastic ice maker. We are all excited to come home from trips because we miss our ice. It's a lovely addition to our family. We have named it and started talking about it to anyone who will listen like a first time mom would their baby. People are questioning if we adopted a child named opal because she made an appearance in Our Christmas card. She sure is loved. On a serious note, we had nugget ice makers that we had to replace yearly and I caved and spent big bucks on this one hoping we would get several years out of it. We have had it for two years have become fully addicted to its ice. I won't have any other ice machine now.

I love how crushed ice is readily available in the house with little to no noise; from the machine or from something grinding ice. The schedule feature is a life saver in the app. We have it turn on 3 times a day for about 2hrs to 3hrs. Weekend schedule completely different. Having ice as soon as you wake is amazing. We have it turn on at least an hour before we get downstairs. This way the basket should be full. The light also comes in pretty handy as well. When you want to look into the ice machine when no light is on. Also you can have the light dim (so only two bright settings). It goes off when the machine does. Note the light does work independently of when the machine is off or on. Cleaning process is pretty simple and straight forward. It has an indicator light when you should do your weekly cleaning on the machine and inside the app. Same with add water. I feel that it holds ice in the basket for a while which is sweet the last icemachine did not do that. The basket slide out and hangs out a bit. So you are not actually reaching with in the device. The side reservior is worth its weight in cold when it comes to how much ice my family eats and we do not have to keep filling the inner reservior. It too has it's flaws. Now for what I don't like. No place to hang the scooper it has to stay inside the ice basket, so average ice machine issues. Not super bad but would be nice for the price. Like the scooper somehow a part of side basket. The screen (basic filter see pictures) keeps solids you dont want out of your ice. Is a joke, when using the side tank. The water flow pushes the screen from the hole it is covering and you have to reach into the water reservior to push it back in. This happens way to often. Side tank/reservior is awesome but sucks when you have to fill it. You have to wait til the machine is basically empty of water or you will have large mess to clean up. So keep the bounty near by.

Cool ice maker, nugget/sonic ice is definitely yummy & soft! The down fall is that it doesn’t have an option for its own dedicated waterline, and it’s a bit noisy. It also drips water down the front when you open the bin onto the drip pan. Things to keep in mind is that it must be kept in a well ventilated area. I built a cabinet in my kitchen just for it, and in less of a day realized how hot it was when I went to open the cabinet. I immediately relocated to my butler pantry. It’s still a good purchase, hopefully it last me a good while. I purchased in May, but kitchen was just completed so I’ve only been using it for about a month.

Keeps up with our whole families needs for ice. Both my son and I work from home and this ice maker is able to keep up with the demand from us and the rest of the family. It is also quite easy to clean which helps keep the ice tasting great. The light in the ice drawer makes it convenient to use at night as well. Truly can't say anything bad about it. The Wi-Fi connected app on my phone is helpful as well. GE did a great job on this unit!

Always ready for a party! We have had this Ice maker for over a year & it has been a great addition to our kitchen. It fits perfectly on our counter. We run it constantly & it keeps right up with our needs. Many of our friends have enjoyed it at our house & then decided to buy their own too. We have had zero issues with it. I highly recommend if you are a lover of crunchy ice & entertain guests. It makes every drink more fun!

Love this little ice machine makes ice as fast as I can use it! It’s very easy to setup! Love the water tank on the side so as you use the ice it keeps making more ice.
