Posted .We recommend descaling and sanitizing your Opal as directed in the Owner's Manual at least every 4 weeks or sooner depending on the hardness of your water. Also, it's important to clean the rear air filter every 2 months. The Owner's Manual is available online by clicking on the Features tab and scrolling to the end of the Features list. Failed after 9 months

Unit was used in a small office space, and because of the commercial application, GE refused to honor the warranty. Best Buy Total Protection doesn't start until the GE warranty expires. Very disappointing - both in product performance, or lack thereof, and also either company standing behind the products they sell.

High Hopes Dashed

Got it refurbished, so it may be a one-off, but it ran wonderfully for about 4 days, I even bought the extended tank I loved it so much! Then it wouldn't make ice. Kept saying add water. I'd drain then it would say making ice, but no ice. Then "add water again" when it was full! Avoid this is my recommendation.

Posted .When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale buildup.
