Both are still in use the side tank is very useful as we use it as a countertop easy to clean and maintain and it makes the perfect ice. Got this one to get ready for the holidays and always have plenty of ice on hand.

It’s much quieter than the original Opal and the air intake is in the back with a reusable air filter screen. My old one would collect dust and stopped working until I figured that bit out. This makes ice so fast. It is a joy. I use the app to turn it on remotely and it tells you to sanitize every couple of days. We use reverse osmosis water so no scale build up. We sanitize 1 time a month. Like nugget ice? Buy this. Any bad reviews are from older units. This is great

I would like know if this is normal, according to the manual the descaling hooks be about once a month, maybe I got a bad one? It’s a tedious process as it has to sit with vinegar for about 16 hours. It’s very expensive to give this much hassle.

Posted .Keeping the Opal ice maker and side tank accessory clean ensures you have plenty of fresh tasting ice. The Opal ice maker will indicate when it is time to clean the unit using the display ring around the round button on the front. When the display ring is solid yellow, it is ready to be cleaned. Cleaning instructions vary depending on which model you own.Descaling should be performed every 2-3 weeks, depending on the hardness of water used. We would suggest searching on our website "Opal Ice Maker - Cleaning and Descaling" to get more information and step by step instuctions. Works just as advertised and makes delicious chewable ice. We did not run out for 6 people. More expensive but worth it if you can afford it. I did purchase on sale. There are good smaller ones that may work for you if only 2 to 3 people.

I can agree that this icemaker is much quieter than Frigidaire I previously purchased. That was a waste of money. The machine was super loud and broke down before a year.
