It works well. I would recommend this to others. However, the installation was harder than necessary due to the template.

Nice microwave, wish I could give it 4.5 stars

I wanted to rate this a 4.5 as it has a few minor concerns, it is a very good microwave. This is my first over range microwave after a kitchen remodel and we wanted a convection microwave so we did not have to get a toaster oven. The knob is a little off putting at first and the fact that you can only cook in 15 second increments, but once you get used to it the microwave is really nice. The microwave portion is powerful and good. I am still getting used to convection, but seems to be a little on the weak side. The bottom vent/fan is very loud and does not do a good job of drawing up steam or smoke. Also the light for lightning the below cook top is halogen, very energy inefficient and wish it were LED especially since it has a night light feature. It is very stylish and matches our GE induction range and feels buit, very solid. Does not warrant 5 stars, but is better than 4 stars.

If you are looking for a good $$$ convention oven it works, but if you are willing to spend double the price $$$ you may choose another option due to it not being easyto use

Great extra oven!

I love my new GE convection microwave oven. It is really easy to use. Just follow the laminated card that comes with the oven and you are ready to go! I had some reservations about transitioning to a microwave oven with a dial, but after getting the oven and using it, I love this feature. The additional instruction booklet provides easy to follow steps for setting up some of the extra features but most of the extra features are already pre-set to "on" and you would only need to change them if you wanted to turn them off but why would anyone want to turn them off!?! This model comes with more features than I thought and I'm really glad that I did not spend the extra money on the GE Advantium. I love the automatic vent and the nice bright light over my range! Also, this model has 3 cook methods (not just two): Convection, Microwave and Speed Baking (which combines microwave with convection). The model comes preset to reconfigure your oven temp using the convection bake so you do need not do more than follow your normal recipes (unless you are using recipes specifically designed for convection). I baked a pan of brownies last night using the convection bake setting and they turned out perfect! The oven pre-heats very quickly and does not put out as much heat and cools off much more quickly than our large oven. I have not used the speed bake yet (it requires cooking with non-metal) but I'm eager to cook my traditional cornbread pudding in glassware using speed bake. This oven will save us the frustration we encounter on holiday family gatherings trying to get everything on the table with just one oven. We'll now be able to quickly cook our sweet potato casserole and corn pudding using the GE convection oven while the turkey bakes in the large oven. It's only been one day with the new microwave oven and I'm inspired to start cooking again!

Hello DisapointedKYuser - this is Nancy at GE. We are glad you are excited about your new over-the-range convection microwave oven. This is a wonderful model and you should be able to cook most of your food items in it. The convection, microwave, and speedbake functions should save a significant amount of time for you. We love hearing that you are inspired to start cooking again! Thanks for sharing your feedback and for choosing GE!

Great Microwave but horrific Best Buy Delivery
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I recommend this microwave. Bought it because of the convection oven roasting and baking giving me a second good sized oven. Purchased this on 2/18/15 with an oven. Best Buy scheduled delivery & installation (installation costs the customer) for 3/7/15. 3/15 arrives & no microwave on truck thus no installation. Best Buy rescheduled delivery for 3/28/15. Microwave delivered but delivery men don't install. Called Best Buy and Best Buy didn't know I wanted it installed. (Paid $117 on 2/18/15 for installation of microwave alone.# Palm Sunday tomorrow with family coming so went to Home Depot and find 2 guys to install #because its too heavy for me alone#, paid them to install because I need that convection oven NOW! Best Buy calls and says installation is April 1 but I wont know when on April 1st they are coming until, at the latest, 9pm. April 1 is a work day. No one is home because they are working. Went to store to complain and when I was told they couldn't even credit my account for installation #didn't need the $ back- I would spend it on another purchase# I figured Id find some guys to help install it and went to Home Depot and found them. Now April 6 is another delivery and install for a refrigerator. Hoping the install will go as planned but installers need to install a water line to the refrigerator. #And that cost extra too.) For the money saved, which was minimum, would have been better to go to a higher end appliance store where the install would have happened as planned. On 3/8/15 I get a phone call from Best Buy asking me when I want to schedule the repair on my new oven! The oven works and there are no problems. Good microwave though- just made cupcakes and they are brown and evenly baked. Now roasting a stuffed pork roast as a test for tomorrows Palm Sunday dinner. Purchased the microwave back on 2/18 so I would have had enough time to use it before Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. And now to see if I can get the install fee credited to my Best Buy account.

The Best

I bought this to replace the microwave/convection oven I bought in 2006, 10 years ago. I absolutely loved the old GE Profile I had. One day, while it was cooking the fan turned on by itself and would not shut off. Then a few minutes later - all was dead. I looked online and read reviews of various other models and brands. I chose the same one I had, just some cosmetic enhancements. I was able to use the old wall bracket to mount the new one which made installation so much easier. With 2 people in the house, I cook most of my meals on the convection setting. Uses a lot less electricity than the full size range, yet I can get a full size cookie sheet in the oven (actually 2 of them because there are 2 shelf racks). The only down side - time must be set in 15 second intervals for the microwave while the convection setting is set digitally.

Nice Replacement for old GE Profile OTR Microwave

Very easy install to replace our 2001 version of this unit. Able to retain the old mounting plate, plus all hanging screws, rear vent, and power cord lined up perfectly. A 10-minute change out of the old unit and install this unit. Some features updated/improved over the past thirteen years, including the handle that used to break off. Only obvious design flaw is the two main control panel buttons, "Start/Pause" and "Cook Time", have defective almost-invisible text compared to all of the other highly-visible buttons. Where was the quality control during manufacturing?

I advise you not to purchase the GE Convection Microwave Oven. We purchased one at Best Buy in December and never used the "convection" portion until January. You have to use the oven rack placed in the center of the oven. Everything over cooks or burns in the back of the oven. Best Buy's Geek squad finally came out in February to look at it. The geek told me the convection isn't supposed to actually be used as an oven. Well why the heck did I waste my buying this thing if I can't use it as an oven. Best Buy won't take the thing back after 15 days so we can't return it for a refund. Even though we purchased the extended warranty the Geeks are telling us we need to contact GE's customer service. What a waste of money!

Hello Bobdonna1024 - this is Nancy at GE. We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your new convection microwave oven and I am happy to help you. If your foods are getting burnt in the back while using the convection feature of your oven, first please check that you are using a shiny aluminum pan as they reflect heat and help produce a light tender crust. Also please use the lower shelf when baking one item and leave at least a 1" gap between the cooking dish and the sides of the oven. Lastly, please reduce the cooking time by at least 25%. I hope this information is helpful! Thanks for providing your feedback!
