I remember it like yesterday! Christmas morning of 1993... I received a Sega Genesis with Sonic 1 & Sonic 2. I played this console for hours upon hours! I have so many great memories of playing this console growing up. The Genesis classic recaptures most of what made the console great! The game selection is wonderful and emulation quality is excellent. I am so happy that they included 3rd party games like Contra, Castlevania, Road Rash, Earthworm Jim... The only complaint that I have is no Mortal Kombat 2. Overall I highly recommend!!!! It's every bit as good as the SNES classic.

Classic Console To Add To The Collection Of Mini's

I really love how these game manufacturers are beginning to offer an upgraded version of the classic consoles. This SEGA Genesis Mini is really one for the books. I love that many of the older games I used to play as a kid can now be played on my HDTV's. Toe Jam and Earl and Earthworm Jim were a must! I love that the interface is straight to the point and all the games are listed on however order you wish for them to be. Only thing I may gripe about is the length of the controller, definitely longer than the NES Mini but could still get improved.

I grew up with the genesis so this brought back a lot of memories and I must say this is a lot better then at games previous attempts with the sega genesis. The game selection for the most part is great I just wish they could of added more games to it like mortal kombat or the strike series but other then that the games were good. My only complaint is sega choose to have there 3 button controllers with the genesis instead of the 6 button controllers. Other then that it controls really well and is worth the money

I grew up as a Sega Kid during the "Console Wars", so I was pretty excited about this release. It's been a blast playing all these games I played as a kid. It's also fun seeing my kids play the games I played when I was their age. Sega did a great job with this release. If you're a Sega fan this is a must buy. This was also my first time pre-ordering something from Best Buy and it was a great experience. Very timely with their email communication and I got the Sega on the day of release. Very happy with the purchase and with Best Buy.

    Really Well Done Mini-System

Sega's answer to Nintendo's two mini-consoles really delivers. Great emulation of the 40+ included games elevates this system towards the top of the pack. Some classics games are here like Sonic, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Shining Force. Pair that with some hidden gems and games that never came out makes this a must have. As a neat bonus, if you switch go the Japanese language on the console, the games change to their Japanese versions along with making some new games playable.

The best of the Genesis mini systems

This is by far the best of the Genesis mini systems to date. All real Genesis games with no unknown homebrew titles in the mix. Excellent UI with pretty good sound emulation. There are a few games with graphical glitches in them but nothing too damning and the lack of a 6 button controller will hurt some titles but considering that the JP version of the 6 button controllers are smaller, this is a good compromise. All in all, for those that grew up in the 16-bit era with Sega, this is worth checking out.

    Genesis Does What Nintendon't

Leave it to Sega to hop on the retro-mini console bandwagon with its best-selling console. The Genesis defined gaming for many kids (and college students) in the 1990s, and this compact edition showcases why. It features a broad selection of titles from Sega as well as select third-party games, including many that haven't seen a re-release in a previous form. This mini console learns from the mistakes of its predecessors by including more games - 42 - than its competitors (40 on the NeoGeo Mini, 30 on NES Mini, 21 on SNES Mini and 20 on the PlayStation Classic). The selection includes the expected hits ("Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Shining Force"), some rare titles ("Alisia Dragoon", "Contra: Hard Corps" and "Mega Man: The Wily Wars"), and two made-for-Mini ports ("Tetris" and "Darius"). It's also one of the first such devices to include games with external licenses, the two superb Disney character platformers, "Castle of Illusion" and "World of Illusion". Like the competition, the Genesis Mini offers incredibly easy setup thanks to USB power and HDMI output to all modern televisions. In fact, if you have any of the other retro-minis connected, just swap in the Genesis Mini and save the included cords for other uses later. Holding the controller's Start button will bring up the options to save or to return to the main menu, and each game includes four save slots, allowing players to freeze a game in action and return to that exact spot at a later time. While I'm giving it an Excellent rating, it's not perfect. Flaws include no smoothing option (big TVs will expose this the most) and not including the six-button Genesis controller, especially in light of two games - "Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition" and "Eternal Champions" - being practically unplayable without it. Fortunately, third-party USB controllers that mimic the six-button controller are available and are relatively inexpensive. That said, these should not detract from what is currently, in my opinion, the best retro console on offer today.

I had one of the original ones when it first came out many years ago. I saw this one and wanted it immediately. It has so many games that bring back memories of good times. Do NOT expect this to play games that look as good as current games. These are old school games that basically look like crap. But its what we had back when they came out! This is so much easier than having all the game cartridges laying around, everything included in one tidy little unit.
