Really good laptop with very few downsights

It has a really great performance, a very nice looking screen with a really solid chassis. An easy to upgrade storage which i feel like most people will need since its a gaming laptop. High end graphics. The battery drains really fast when heavy applications are being used and it doesnt have a USB C type charging port. Overall a solid pick.

Good on paper. But flawed enough I can't recommend

I picked it up on sale for $800. For that price, a 4060 laptop seemed like a steal. I now see why it was so cheap. As far as purely price to performance goes, it's still a good deal and packs a punch. But to get it that cheap, they had to take shortcuts. My main gripes with it is the build quality and cooling. Which made me not want to use it as a daily driver. - Keyboard: The keyboard feels too squished which makes typing uncomfortable for me. I don't have large hands, but the keyboard layout feels uncomfortable and unsatisfying to type on. - Touchpad: The touchpad also feels cheap and unsatisfying to use. Definitely not the worst I've used. It's fairly large and works well overall. But feels cheap and "plasticy", and has a cheap feel when tapping. - Display: It's fine, nothing impressive, but nothing worth complaining about for a gaming laptop at this price. - Performance/Cooling: This is the strongest point of this laptop (with some caveats). Hooked up to a monitor with keyboard and mouse, it's very pleasant to use. It's snappy and responsive. I had a good experience with 1440 gaming with some settings tweaked. It seems like the biggest shortcoming though is the cooling. Even during light gaming, it sounds like a jet taking off. From what I've read, the cooling/power system is not equipped to get the most out of the 4060. And this shows in benchmarks. This laptop performs lower than almost any 4060 laptop, and in many cases, performs about the same as other 4050 laptops. So all in all, I really have trouble recommending it. On paper, it's a great deal. But since the 4060 performs close to other laptops with a 4050, you're probably better off getting a similarly priced 4050 laptop with better build quality, or paying a bit more for a nicer 4060 laptop. It's decent value and not a terrible laptop (hence the 3 stars), but because of the mentioned things, I think there are better options.

Way better than anything I've had before. This laptop is fast and the graphics are so good that when my games load up they automatically select the ultra high settings. It's great for work, too, and is so fast there's been several times I've almost exited out of my work tabs. I don't count that as a con; my last laptop was so slow I could make dinner while waiting for it to boot up. The battery life is crap for games. I get, maybe, an hour on battery, but for work I get about three or four hours.

I needed to upgrade my older Windows 7 workbench to something new and Windows 10/11 compatible. A powerful processor, good graphical capabilities, expandable memory and storage options were also on the list. This Gigabyte G5 KF5 was a great option for the price and so far it has delivered.

Pro: -144hz refresh rate -Num pad -A lot of ports Con: -Cooling -Speakers -512gb storage Not sure: -Battery Build The build is overall good. It’s thin and not too heavy. The body is plastic and has a bit of a flex at the top but nothing negative beyond that. There’s a good amount of ports, including 2 USB, 2 type C ports, HDMI, mini DP, headphones and mic, Ethernet, and a card reader. The USB ports are spread out on each side, 2 USB on the left, a type C on the right, and another in the back. It’s easier to manage peripherals like this. The intake is plenty vented, taking up almost a third of the bottom with the heat pipes in clear view, but that doesn’t mean cooling is the best. More on that later. It comes with 512gb M.2 Gen 4 SSD, which is not really enough when games today are 100+ gb. Luckily the laptop has another M.2 slot for expanded storage. Display and Sound The 1080p 144hz display is good enough for gaming. It’s not as vivid as other displays I’ve seen on a laptop, but it does get bright enough. Colors are average, but I wouldn’t do any color accurate graphic work on it. The speakers are simply bad. Worse than a laptop at this price range should be. They can get loud, but they sound cheap, muffled, and lack any clarity. They sound a bit better if the laptop is sitting on a hard surface so the sound can bounce up, but still bad. Gaming Out of the box gaming performance can be good with a caveat. The 4060 can do a decent job at steady framerates on medium settings, and with DLSS on can push higher framerates. Something like Baldur’s Gate 3 ran fine capped at 60 fps, and pushed higher uncapped. However, this is where the caveat comes in. Cooling and fan noise. Something like Baldur’s Gate 3, at medium and fps locked, can already push the CPU into the 80’s and the fans start getting loud. When uncapped, the fans got loud. The middle of the keyboard started to get warm fast. The chassis getting hot and fans being loud is to be expected from most gaming laptops, but some do a better job at keeping the CPU temps down. The takeaway is that gaming can be good, just be aware that the settings have to be kept in check to keep the temps down. The Control Center is more user friendly than other brands built in controlling applications. Adjusting power and fan setting is more straightforward. However it may have some bugs which led to inconsistent battery life. Battery Life Battery life was somewhat of an anomaly during testing. Having the laptop in Entertainment mode (balanced) and with only a Youtube video running, the results were drastically different each time. The first time, the battery lasted only an hour. The second attempt, an hour had passed and the battery still showed 99%, and ended up lasting even longer. The third attempt was more of a normal expectation with the battery depleting at a steady rate and lasting about two hours. It may have been the Control Center not switching the GPU on/off properly, but it does show that the battery CAN last for hours under low power settings. While gaming, however, it averages out about an hour or so, depending on the games. Conclusion This laptop, for its build and specs, is fine. Build quality is good and should have enough ports for most needs. The display is fine for gaming, but the speakers are bad. It should have come with a bigger SSD, but at least it has another M.2 and can be easily expandable. Gaming performance is what you’d expect, but the temperature can get hot and fan noise will certainly get loud. Play around with the fan control and keep the game settings in mid range and it should be fine.

The Gigabyte G5 KF5 laptop offers some nice specifications at a price that’s very competitive compared to high end gaming laptops. Obviously, one is going to compromise in some respects when you’re looking at some nice components, yet keeping the price under $1,200.00. The build quality actually feels better than one might expect at this price point, but it’s a solid feel with little flex while weighing under five pounds. The Mecha pattern on the lid and touchpad offer a subtle, but classy look to give the laptop a little something extra in terms of design. Performance has been quite good with the 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and 16gb RAM. This laptop features NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU and it was nice to see a 144Hz refresh rate. I think this laptop fits a nice niche for those looking for portability with the ability to handle gaming, productivity and a multitude of other computing needs. Running multiple applications has shown the KF5 to perform well and it has handled a variety of games quite well. Fan noise has been acceptable as the laptop uses a Windforce cooling technology utilizing 59 blade fans, 4 heat-pipes and 4 exhaust fans to support peak performance and stability. For those with a creative side, RTX 40 series laptop GPUs are built with the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture to bring a performance boost with AI-powered DLSS3. NVIDIA Studios creative apps can elevate creativity further. It's nice to see the Gigabyte G5 KF5 laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E as new routers are starting to hit the market with this technology. Lag should be reduced as Wi-Fi 6E lowers the latency caused by crowded connections. One aspect of this laptop that was acceptable, but not over the top by any means was the speaker quality. Volume seems adequate and does support DTS-X audio, but the sound was a bit flat for me so one might want to consider external speakers for enhanced gaming experience. The keyboard feel was nice and the 15 preset backlit colors are a nice touch to add a bit of fun to the experience. The trackpad is a nice size and lacks no responsiveness. I/O ports on the back of the laptop allow for a more organized desktop experience and the laptop ports include 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.2 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Type-C, 1x mini DP 1.4, 1x Audio In/Out, 1x RJ-45, 1x DC-in, 1x MicroSD Card Reader. I think this Gigabyte G5 KF5 has some nice processing power, along with the GeForce RTX 40 series laptop GPU to provide a well-rounded design for gaming, school, work and entertainment functionality. Given the value this laptop offers I think it's worthy of consideration for those not wanting to break the bank.

I would definitely buy this again. The performance at this price is ridiculous. It was a gift for my wife, and she loves it. The fan gets a little loud when the GPU and CPU are near 100%, but it's expected for a laptop like this.

I recently received a Gigabyte G5 KF5 Laptop. It’s a nice beginners gaming laptop configured with a 12th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 video with 8GB Video Memory, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512 GB SSD, and has a 15" 144hz screen. It comes preloaded with Windows 11 Home. For connectivity it has 1 HDMI port, 1 Mini DisplayPort, 1 USB-A 3.2 port, 2 USB-A 2.0 ports, 2 USB-C 4.2 ports, 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack, an Ethernet port, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. It also has an SD Card reader and a backlit 102-key keyboard. It utilizes DTS:X Ultra Audio Technology, a touchpad for maneuvering the mouse pointer, or you can attach an external mouse. It comes with a 150watt power supply. After unpacking the laptop and fully charging it, you go through the normal process of setting up the laptop and downloading Windows updates and any needed firmware updates. I then migrated the apps and data from an existing laptop and was off and running. Once setup, the first thing you will want to do it hit Function + Escape at the same time. That will bring up the laptop’s Control Center. From here you can set the performance setting from your choices of Performance, Entertainment, Power Saving, or Quiet. It has gauges that will display memory and storage usage, and CPU and GPU fan speeds. When the GPU is in use it will show the GPU Clock Speed, Temperature, and utilization. You can configure Brightness, Volume and Blue Light Filtering all with sliding controls. You also have the ability to set preferences for WinKey Lock, Swap Win and Function Keys, Function Key Lock, turn the camera and touch pad off and on, set Airplane Mode, and control Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock states. Another tab in the app allows you to set the color and brightness of the backlighting for the keyboard and enable a sleep timer for the backlight, to keep it from draining the battery when it is not in use. The Control Panel also contains their Flexikey feature. This feature allows you to configure Express Keys, Express Text, and disable keys. You can configure multiple profiles with different settings for each one. This feature can be toggled off and on by pressing Function + Backspace. The Control Panel also allows you to utilize their Flexicharger. Flexicharger allows you to charge the battery to 100%, charge it to 80% when it reaches 70% or set your own custom lower and upper thresholds, which is good for the battery. I found the laptop to be very capable. It has plenty of horsepower with the installed processor, RAM and GPU. It ran all of the Microsoft Office apps without any hesitation. It ran Minecraft, Rocket League, and The Walking Dead with no problems at high settings. While the built-in display is limited to 1920x1080 resolution, you can attach it to an external monitor with a higher resolution. Also, while the laptop has limited stereo speakers, you can plug in headphones and experience DTS:X audio that will blow you away. Overall, I really like the laptop. I’m not a heavy gamer and this laptop can do everything that I want it to, especially when I connect to a big external monitor. It’s got 16gb of memory which can be upgraded to 32gb. While the internal SSD is only 512gb, there is space for a second M.2 SSD that should give you more than enough expansion to hold all of your games. I highly recommend this machine for the entry level gamer and it’s more than you would normally get in a laptop at this price.

When I received Gigabyte's G5KF5 Gaming Laptop for review, I was very interested in seeing what it was like, how well it was built, and how fast it responded as I had never heard of Gigabyte gaming laptops before. I received the laptop in brand new condition nicely packaged for safe and secure shipping. The Gigabyte G5KF5 arrived with a power cord and the laptop with Microsoft Windows 11 preinstalled. There was very little bloatware compared to other laptops I have reviewed and took very little time to get it setup and running once it had been fully charged. This gaming laptop comes equipped with about as many ports as I have ever seen in any sized laptop let alone a 15.6" laptop computer including: one USB-A and one USB 3.0, 2 USB-C ports, one HDMI, one video, one Ethernet, a Headphone jack and a Mic jack. The Gigabyte also boasts Wi-Fi 6 capability, Intel Core 7, Nvidea Geoforce RTX 4060 8GB and X-Box GamePass Ultimate pre-installed. A very nice package indeed! It also comes with a blue lit LED keyboard, fan speed control and a non-touch screen. This gaming laptop is very nicely and solidly built and comes with a 512GB SSD drive. For the price point, this is a very nice machine and I highly recommend it.

The design is nice. Also for the price of around $749 which is the promotional price I've paid for it, it is probably one of the best on that range of pricing. Unfortunately the speakers are not good. Sounds pretty bad to me. Overall, it's a good gaming laptop with pretty good features.

Cannot change the keyboards light, downloaded gigabyte control center from thier website and it doesnt work so i uninstalled it. Cannot find the option anywhere in the computer, blue is fine but i know it can be green since when turning the computer on it flashes between red, blue, and green, but stays blue when on. The questions asked says you can change the color but fails actually tell you how smh.
