This Gigabyte G5 KF5 is an entry level gaming machine which comes with a pretty kicked up Graphics Processor, the GeForce RTX 4060 (w/8GB DDR6 dedicated RAM). This processor can support 4K and 8K displays via HDMI or Displayport (both on the back of notebook). The G5's 15.6" Display is FHD (1980x1080 anti glare) @144Mhz (with an average brightness of 275 cd/m² (nits)). The RTX 4060 supports DLSS3 and ray tracing, so it should work with most modern games. It ships with a 512Gb Gen4 m.2 SSD and 16Gb DDR5 (2x8Gb dual channel). The machine comes packaged inside a nice dust cloth with plenty of screen protection (see image). It comes with a pretty light but beefy 150W power supply, it's not possible to power this notebook via a USB C input. The notebook itself weighs in at 4.59 lbs (pretty reasonable for a gaming machine).     Upon installation, I made sure that Windows 11 (Home) was up to date (this took about 90 minutes and multiple reboots (not surprising)).  I also made sure that the G5's firmware was up to date, which only required one update. Nothing unexpected, but you should be aware that Windows 11 requires that you have a Microsoft Account to logon.  One of the first things I did, was to fully charge the battery, and then unplug the notebook, and use it for light office work (screen at 55% brightness and performance set to "entertainment" (Balanced)), mostly internet browsing.  After 4 hour I got the 20% low battery warning, then I ran for another 45 minutes, which was at 3% and it auto dimmed my screen at every pause.  The G5's Control Center is an app called "Fn hotkeys and OSD".  It offers most of the machine power/performance/status options. So call battery life about: 4h 50m; no gaming, not using the RTX 4060, pretty typical for a gaming notebook, nothing special.  I recharged, and ran Diablo IV (set to 1080p Ultra), upon loading you could hear the notebooks fans beginning to run, the frame rate varied from 105 to about 175 FPS (w/DLSS3 enabled).  Pretty darn respectable for a notebook, but this is a FHD display.  I only ran for 70 minutes and the low battery warning came on and some of the power saving features that were set by default kicked in, and slowed things down.  The heat coming out from the sides and back was pretty warm as expected, but not as bad as I'd thought it might be.  So system cooling seems to work quite well. The back of the keyboard was noticeably warmer than the front.  So don't expect to do any extended gaming off the battery (da).  Diablo ran very smoothly, no screen tearing, absolutely a fantastic gaming experience.  The RTX 4060 is quite a nice graphics card.  I hooked up an external 4K HDMI monitor and the Diablo frame rate dropped to 66/104, still good and the display had noticeable improvements in the details.  I'm impressed. Keyboard color backlighting customization is pretty limited, you can set one of 16 backlight colors and 4 levels of brightness.  The touch pad is pretty good but not superb, I attached a logitech BT mouse, as I'm accustomed to it for several games. The keyboard has a bit of give to it. More than I'd like, not quite a completely solid feel.  The keyboard's bottom row of keys is a bit different from what I'm accustomed to; the cursor keys are shifted underneath the number pad and the keys are completely flat with no indenetation, but I'll adjust. Now I'm going to go in a different direction.  The 512Gb drive is not big enough for my needs, and as a boot drive I'd like it to be as fast as possible (it's not).  Two bits of good news, Gigabyte does not enable Bitlocker by default on the SSD.  Second there are two m.2 drive slots, so expansion is quite easy (I'm not positive both support Gen4 drives, but I'm certain the primary (right) slot supports Gen4).  But I want a faster boot drive, so I'll clone the 512Gb to a Teamgroup MP44 2TB SLC SSD (via a USB adapter). Which will offer better performance.  I've attached an image showing CrystalDiskMark's benchmarks comparing the installed Gigabyte to a Teamgroup SSD. There is also some video editing and image editing software that I use that really performs much better with more RAM.  So when I open the notebook up I'll replace the 2x8Gb sticks with 2 Crucial DDR5 4800 SODIMM 32Gb sticks.  I removed the 13 phillips head screws from the back and pry off the back cover.  Easily done, images attached. The cloned SSD, replaces existing SSD, and Crucial memory replaces the installed 16Gb of Samsung memory.  I reboot, it takes nearly 2 minutes to reconfigure the changes, but the system boots and I now have 64Gb main memory and a 2Tb boot drive. The screen on the Gigabyte G5 is really nice, the longer I used it the better it seemed, plenty bright with even backlighting.  There are 2 USB-A (one 2.0 the other 3.2) ports, 2 USB-C (rear and side), 1 full size HDMI 2.1 port (rear) and 1 full size Displayport, 1 Micro SD card slot, 1 GB Ethernet port and a headphone/mic jack.  Very well outfitted.   As for sound quality, it's... disappointing, it can get fairly loud enough but the overall sound quality is not that good.  And the camera is also so, so @1080P, it's just ok with low light, colors not particularly bright.  When the camera is on there is a white led to the left of the camera, but no physical shutter lock.  There are 2 microphones that are pretty good. This G5 notebook does not support Thunderbolt and it does NOT support a remote monitor hooked up to the USB-C ports (Display port over USB-C; this is disappointing).  And as I said earlier, this notebook cannot be powered via the USB-C. So if you're going to travel with this 4.5lbs notebook you're going to also have to bring its power supply. I do some astrophotography and use an app that aligns stars, this i7 notebook is nearly 10% faster than my current state of the art notebook (i7 w/Nvidia 3060).  The good news is it's a post processing process, where I process a "stack" of images.  I'm sure the 4060 GPU has something to do with the improvement.  The same for video processing, this is noticeably faster than what I've been using (once loaded with sufficient memory). In summary, this is a well made computer,  I wish it had come with a bigger faster SSD, as it could easily be 20% faster than the stock drive they include. I wish I could power the machine (maybe without the 4060, with a 100W USB-C PD device).  The included memory is very good and fast. I'd also like the option of a touch screen. And the speakers could certainly be improved (there seems to be plenty of space). But in terms of performance, properly configured, this is a bargain of a machine that can easily be upgraded.

The two clear downsides are battery life and fan noise, thats the sacrifice for what your paying. I couldn’t afford a desktop setup because i don’t have the space for it so I was going to leave the laptop plugged in anyways. When it comes to performance is just an awesome experience with the 4060, I hated the way Cyberpunk 2077 ran on both Xbox and the PS5 so I can tell you it runs great on the 4060. Obviously is not going to run the game on RT Overdrive but in RT Ultra going down runs great with DLSS. Im very satisfied. Hope this helps.

Review after owning for a fair amount of months. Overall the computer is great especially performance wise. It can play most games, especially single player on max graphics. However, I do wish there was more RAM and storage but you can easily change out one of the RAM sticks and as for storage I just use an external SSD for most of my games and they run fine. But for the price I would have like a tad more in that regard. I did not think I would find it frustrating but the fact there are only two USB ports did get a bit difficult as well and I ended up buying a HUB, this is most laptops I feel nowadays so I wouldn't harp on it too much. As for the outside build quality the touch pad and computer itself is very prone to fingerprints. There is also a coating on the entirety of the computer itself and within few weeks of plugging and unplugging computers, taking it on the go, and just using it daily there are areas, especially around the ports and sides of the screen, that are beginning to peel or bubble up under the coating. The final minor thing is there is no mute button which I didn't think I would find frustrating but I do. Overall for the price I might look elsewhere especially for the outside build quality and the lack of storage space.

Its a very good gaming laptop. Can run alot of game on high or ultra settings easily hitting 60fps. There are some drawbacks to the laptop such as very loud fans when they ramp up to maximum (and they will) and the cpu can get toasty but a decent cooling pad will keep you in a nice range. Overall great laptop and bang for buck!

    Budget Gaming Powerhouse

The Gigabyte G5 KF5 gaming laptop is a budget powerhouse. For the price, you get an i7 processor, RTX 4060 mobile, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and 15" 144hz screen. Out of the box it was easy to setup. After all the update where applied, I set off playing a brand new game, The Crew Motorfest. This laptop automatically applied all high settings, and play this game flawlessly. Next up Monster Hunter Rise, highest settings, and set max frames to 144, again this game ran flawlessly too. The Crew 2 maxes out at 60FPS, but at ultra settings, it ran perfectly. The laptop speakers have a decent sound, but I wouldn't recommend them for anything other than browsing YouTube or Facebook. Where the sound really shines is that Gigabyte included DTS with this laptop. It is truly a game changer in terms of sound quality while playing games or watching movies. It's so dramatic to me, that I instantly know that it's off if I happen to change headsets, or connect wired headphones. The G5 KF5 is also very stylish to me, visually appealing. I know this is subjective, but I really like it. It's also compact and lightweight, which for a gaming laptop of this performance level is quite amazing. You could easily put this laptop into a backpack and barely know that it was there. Removing the back to swap out RAM or add an extra SSD is simple enough. You already have 16GB (8GBx2) DDR5 4800 RAM which is excellent as is, but you have the option to upgrade. You also get one extra M.2 slot, so adding an extra drive will be easy. Just note that you will need to source an M.2 screw, because it does not have one in the spot, and did not come with the laptop accessories. There are only two issues I have with this laptop, and they are that the G5 KF5 gets very loud when playing games. So loud that my wife came into the room and asked what the heck is that noise. The other is that the screen is just ok. It gets the jobn done, but it lacks color. It seems a tad washed out. It would be nice to be able to tweak the color a bit to add some vibrance, but there are no options for that currently. Likes: 1.) Plays just about every game flawlessly at high/ultra settings 2.) DTS Sound included, makes headphones sound amazing 3.) Lightweight and portable Dislikes: 1.) Fans get very loud while playing games or heavy processing 2.) Very basic RGB lighting on keyboard 3.) Display looks washed out to me, not vibrant enough, and no way to adjust it.

Love the laptop as it is more than enough for web dev work. Bought it for programming mainly and some gaming. The heat dissipation is the only grip I have with it. Played overwatch 2 for a good 30 mins with about 140 fps on high settings. I bought it on sale so for the price it was well worth it.

My son is an up and coming Jr golfer. We bought this laptop to run the golf simulator software for his in home practice facility. Considering that this laptop is the least expensive item in this room, it speaks a lot to its quality that we went with it over much more expensive laptops. I am not sure how it would do for video games, but this simulator software has some pretty amazing graphics and is pretty resource intensive and it works flawlessly. The only negative i can give it is that the speakers are not great, but it is a laptop, so its hard to get a lot of sound out of them. I like this laptop so much, I am considering buying a second one for myself to use for myself. I do glass and metal etching as well as custom vinyl decals and this computer would be really good for the software applications i use for that too. I gave the battery life 5 stars, but we keep it plugged in 99% of the time, so i can't speak to how long the battery lasts.

Pros: Solid unit with good graphics and decent beginning storage. Runs games without issues as long as you choose the proper V-Sync and refresh rates. Good number of inputs and outputs for all IO needs, along with Ethernet port, audio ports, HDMI, and various USBs (2.0, 3.1, and C) Battery is able to last about 2-3 hours of continuous use. Cons: Unit can be noisy with the fans during extended time playing games. Keyboard can get a little warm after extended use with high resource programs. Recommendations: Purchase an extra storage to install in the additional M.2 drive slot. (Preferably 2TB or higher) Purchase additional RAM (Preferably up to an additional 32GB) Purchase a USB dock for additional IO connection.

The item took awhile to get here. Ended up having to wait over the weekend to receive it. So far the laptop has been great though I do agree with others that it does get very loud. It seems to do that even when running games like Pummel party. However i will say that this isnt too much of an issue especially if you wear headphones. Also pretty good for emulating games and connecting multiples controllers if you want to get a USB hub with it for local multiplayer. Battery life could be better so i recommend keeping it plugged in at all times. Also i wish the keyboard RGB could have the colors have at least some effects to them. Its just a static color that you can change despite it clearly being able to change colors on the bootup.

Super fast processor. Plenty of memeory. Good video card. Nice monitor. For the sale price this is Best bang for the buck for the kiddo for Christmas. I set it up for him got all the updates done and tinkered around a bit. Very fast computer. For the money very attractive computer. Doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. Keyboard is backlit. Fans can get a little loud when you start using most of its computing power but not too bad. The power block for the power supply gets freaking hot. Don't let it sit on carpet. Keep it on a hard surface so it won't catch anything on fire. Aside from that this computer is top notch. Got a great deal on it even after Black Friday. Will be buying more gigabyte products from Best buy.

Well balanced CPU, GPU, RAM and screen; can run any game at max settings and get 60+ FPS. I/O is good for its form factor; the inclusion of mini DP instead of full size is perplexing but better than none at all. Keyboard and trackpad are fine. DAC/AMP are good, speakers leave plenty to be desired. Chassis has little-no flex and feels solid. Battery struggles to handle CPU+GPU to the point where if you're in performance mode, you better be plugged into the wall or expect a crash, even just loading into the desktop. For under $800, it's pretty hard to beat overall.

The Gigabyte G5 kf5 is a powerhouse in the world of gaming laptops. As a long-time gamer, I was on the hunt for a laptop that could seamlessly handle the latest AAA titles while also being portable and stylish. The G5 has exceeded all my expectations. Performance: 9/10 Equipped with an Intel i7 12th gen processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, this laptop delivers stunning performance. Games run smoothly on high settings, and the 144Hz refresh rate ensures a buttery-smooth experience. Even during intense gaming sessions, the G5 maintains cool temperatures thanks to its advanced cooling system. Design and Portability: 10/10 Weighing just 3.5 pounds, the G5 is incredibly portable without compromising on build quality. The sleek, minimalist design is complemented by the customizable AniMe Matrix LED display on the lid, adding a unique touch that makes it stand out. It's perfect for gamers who are always on the go. Battery Life: 8/10 For a gaming laptop, the G5 offers impressive battery life. I was able to get around 8-9 hours of moderate use, including gaming, streaming, and browsing. While heavy gaming will reduce this time, it’s still much better than most gaming laptops on the market. Display: 8/10 The 15-inch display is stunning, providing vibrant colors and sharp details. The thin bezels add to the immersive experience. Whether you're exploring open worlds or watching your favorite shows, the visual quality is top-notch. Keyboard and Trackpad: 8/10 The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, with good travel and a satisfying click. The backlighting is customizable, which is great for gaming in low-light environments. The trackpad is decent, though most gamers will likely use an external mouse. Overall: 9/10 The Gigabyte G5 KF5 is a fantastic gaming laptop that balances performance, portability, and style. It's perfect for gamers who need a powerful machine that can also be easily transported. If you're in the market for a high-quality, low budget gaming laptop, the G5 should be at the top of your list.

On the positive side this laptop gives pretty excellent gaming performance for its price. It can throttle once The screen isn't as crisp as I would like but isn't terrible. What is terrible are the speakers. I'm no audiophile but he speakers in this laptop are atrocious. I bought a bluetooth speaker for it as a stop gap measure. So I spent $100 to fix the sound, another $100 for a reasonable amount of storage, and another $100 for more memory. I wouldnt recommend this laptop.
