The GIGABYTE - AORUS 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop - Intel i5-13500H - 8GB DDR5 - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 - 512GB SSD is a solid performer for this category / price range.
The 15.6" 1080P fast refresh screen looks sharp and bright. Beautiful display. Windows 11 looks great on it and pretty much everything else!
The laptop case feels sturdy and looks great in my opinion with the matte black finish and RGB effects. I believe it is all plastic construction but has the appearance of a metal alloy. The backlit keyboard has a nice solid tactile feel to it with decent travel distance. The track pad is ample sized and feels and works great.
The built-in FHD 1080p webcam does a nice job for meetings or recording yourself and the microphone picks up audio clearly.
For 8 GB of memory the laptop does a decent job running applications and games. The system feels fast and responsive. You can expand the memory to 64GB, but it seems to handle things quite well with just 8 surprisingly. I'd recommend at least bumping the memory to 16 GB for more breathing room when running multiple applications at the same time or large games. Running everyday software like Office or browsing the web on this PC is fast and responsive! The Core 13th gen i5 scored well with an outstanding single core performance for 3D gaming.
The 512 GB SSD performed extremely well in the benchmark tests I ran. User Benchmark rated it at 262%! Assuming you're a gamer just note that with today’s game sizes your drive could fill up quick, but it should be enough room to install several that you play regularly. The laptop does have an additional M.2 SSD slot for adding an additional SSD which is really a nice option!
The cooling system seemed to handle the heat quite well. Fan noise is noticeable while gaming but not loud enough that you will find it super annoying most likely. The system comes with software that lets you adjust the fan speed for different situations. Plenty of airflow areas on the bottom, sides and back which is nice.
The built-in speaker audio quality is decent. Not extraordinary, but with the included software that turns on the advanced sound features and processing, it allows you to tweak the EQ to your liking. The stock settings are a little too bright for my taste, but the EQ allowed me to take out some of the mid-range and tweak the bass. The laptop comes with a DTS:X® Ultra Audio Technology license for better audio quality, which is nice.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU 6GB GDDR6 did well in my tests. It's a mid-range GPU but will provide a smooth gaming experience for most games available today at 1080p resolutions. I tested the system with several games, and all performed smoothly and very playable. Fortnite gameplay with the settings on EPIC was averaging between 100-120 fps without raytracing on. With raytracing it dropped to around 80-90 fps. Honestly, I have a hard time telling the difference between regular and ray-traced modes visually speaking. Borderlands 3 with all the settings cranked was averaging 140-160 fps. Tomb Raider was around 110 fps after running its built-in benchmarking. New World with the settings on max was around 90 fps average. The only thing I noticed due to the 8 GB memory was extra load times between games and at the start of games. Adding an extra 8 GB or more of RAM should alleviate this small issue.
Battery life when not gaming is quite good. I was able to get about 8 hours of video playback with the system in power saving mode and the screen brightness at about 40%. The system charges back to full from 8% in about an hour and a half which is really quick in my experience. For gaming, depending on the game, you can expect about 1.5-2 hrs. of battery life, which is normal for a gaming laptop.
As far as ports go, there is a good selection of them.
Left side :
1 x USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-A)
1 x Audio combo Jack
Right Side :
2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-A)
1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-C)
Rear side:
1 x Thunderbolt™ 4 (Type-C, support Power delivery)
1 x HDMI 2.1
1 x Mini DP 1.4
1 x RJ45
1 x DC in
The power adapter is slim but has some size to it. Better than some gaming laptops I've owned. The laptop itself is not too bulky for a gaming laptop, but not super thin either. The laptop is rated around 5 lbs. but is balanced well and feels comfortable when you must move it around.
In my opinion this gaming laptop has enough power and capabilities to satisfy most gamers on a budget! RAM is cheap right now, so adding an extra 8 GB should still make this a budget laptop price range if you want to speed up some load times for larger games. It'll handle any day-to-day tasks with ease and run most modern games you throw at it with smooth framerates at 1080p resolution. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the 8GB of memory. 16 would've knocked it out of the park :)

There are a lot of great things about this laptop and the weakness that holds it back.
Pros
- Great performance with 140w 4050
- Good build quality
- Solid keyboard
- Highly customizable RGB keyboard
- Ports on back is convenient
Cons
- Screen is dim and has poor color accuracy
If it wasn’t for the screen I would have kept the laptop as it’s a great performer as has excellent BQ at its price point. If you are planning to dock it to a monitor it’s definitely a good option or if you aren’t picky about the screen.

I was a little skeptical about the computer when I saw the specs. 8GB of RAM? Are they serious? NOTE: My tests were done with the 8GB of DDR5 4800 that came with the laptop, which it is my intention to upgrade after testing to the maximum of 64GB.
Panel is a 1080p/FHD/1920x1080 with 144hz refresh rate, and the colors are pretty accurate - much better than other "budget" gaming machines I've tried in the past. No touch screen here, then again, who uses touch screen on a gaming machine? Definitely not me!
BIOS has a LOT - I mean A LOT - of options. Much much much more than I've seen in inexpensive gaming laptops in the past. Very granular controls over every little setting.
SSD is 512GB 4th generation NVME. Read and write speeds were in the 6000 range in CrystalDiskMark.
I went through the standard setup, ran all the updates, made sure all my drivers were up to date, installed a few games and fired them up. First at bat - Battlefield 2042. I was able to get between 50 and 65 FPS on Ultra, with the occasional dip into the high 40's . Sure, I could have kept it at 60+ FPS with a couple of mild tweaks, but I wanted to really torture it to see what it's got. I admit it - the RTX 4050 did a lot better than I expected - gameplay was definitely smooth enough to be enjoyed even at ULTRA levels. I'm betting it will be a *LOT* better once I upgrade the memory!
I can't say a lot about the battery life - I tried to stay plugged in as much as I could in order to get full performance out of the laptop. NOTE: Unsure if it's an intended function or not, but plugging an USB-C charger into the USB-C port did not appear to charge the battery - then again, with the OEM charger being 230W I'm guessing that this is performing as intended.
Aorus did a great job with this laptop - can't wait to see how much better it can be with more memory and more SSD storage, but right out of the box I was impressed - it really didn't.... "Feel"... like a machine with *ONLY* 8GB of ram - it performs!

Great entry level gaming PC. Its sturdy, plenty of performance to be able to play games.... just make sure you adjust setting appropriately. Fan is a little loud when it comes on but otherwise a good buy.

A very good performance. Although, the battery drains very fast. You'll habe to keep it plugged while playing. Also, the fan can get a nit loud at times, but it doesn't bother me much. Overall, it does the job.

This is a really good gaming laptop, good for on the move travelling. I move around for work and I use this to play games, talk to my friends and family, and for work purposes. Overall, it works really well and can run my games smoothly with the right output of ram. I've run into a few issues with the lighting and keyboard disabling but it was nothing I couldn't figure out through a little bit of research. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone who moves around often or is just looking for a good laptop to play games with friends!

Surprisingly good laptop for the price point. I was able to max out or near max out any of my games at 10:80 P. This includes BauldersGate 3.
even with the fans going at max, it’s not that loud. The RAM and SSD is upgradable with an additional SSD slot.

This computer is pretty good to run most of the game. Medium settings is awesome but put on ultra setting it will run. It heats up. The best thing when it heats up is when you have setting easy control button to blow out maximum throttle. It is noisy but better than the older models. It helps to cool off at maximum throttle and you can hit again to turn it off to watch movie or homework.

So far it has not been good to me. When playing games, the fan is so loud I cannot hear the speakers at max volume, so headphones are a must.
For programming, there is no pause/break button, not even as a Fn key, so I cannot kill a build in Visual Studio.
The big killer though is that installing a firmware update - run by gigabyte's management software! - for the lighting effects (keyboard backlight and light bar under the monitor) broke the lighting effects. The keyboard needs the backlight for letters/labels to be seen. Only one third of the keyboard would light up and nothing else. The customization menu for the lights lost all options.
I've had to pay money to send it in for an RMA. So far not a quality product, but it's one that I'm stuck with.

This laptop runs games wonderfully and sharp. Every once in a while you get a gitter but that’s due to the Ram. Your Ram and Space is the only backdraws but additional parts and a time this thing can run like a beast. I love this thing plus the fans disaptes heats so well. Overall get this thing but I would invest in some upgrades but out the box WONDERFUL

Good product. Had some difficulty with internet and sound working. Between GeekSquad phone and in-person support the problem was resolved. Satisfied with my first time purchase of a laptop. Appreciate the laptop keyboard being centered and not left justified because of the number pad, unlike other gamer set ups. It is comfortable to type and the screen is a generous size.

This is an absolutely amazing machine. I needed a computer for my graphic design class and this hit the mark. Just wish it had a better battery life. But for low end gaming and design its awesome.
