Customers recognize the AORUS 15.6" gaming laptop's strong performance and upgradable RAM as significant advantages, along with its good graphics and generally solid build quality. However, some users point to the noticeable fan noise and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. Concerns were also raised regarding the laptop's boot times and its weight.

Good Entry-level Gaming Laptop

The Gigabyte Aorus gaming laptop is a nice entry level gaming laptop which will play many modern games at decent settings, however, there are a couple noticable shortcomings which are hard to ignore. This laptop comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of DDR5 RAM, 512 GB SSD, 1920x1080 15.6inch 165hz display, and an NVIDIA RTX 4050 graphics card. These are somewhat decent specs for an entry level gaming laptop, and will more than get the job done to play most modern games. I tested it out on a number of different games such as Doom Eternal and Forza Horizon 5. In most games I could set the graphics settings right around the middle and get over 100 fps. So if you're used to playing on a beefed up gaming desktop that maxes out settings and gets you 165 fps, you may be disappointed, but if you are just getting into PC gaming and want something portable, this is a great option. A couple things in particular really bugged me though. The SSD is only 512 GB, and much of that is taken up by the OS. So realistically, you can only fit a hand full of modern games on this system. Even consoles come with 1TB and 2TB ssds now a days. I really wish they had at least included a 1TB drive. You will either have to constantly uninstall and reinstall games, or get an external drive. This was my biggest problem with the system. A couple other things that I didn't care for but weren't as big a deal are the screen resolution and the RAM. The screen is only HD, 1920x1080. This just feels a bit outdated at this point. I would at least prefer 1440p, if not full 4K. And the RAM also seems outdated. 8GB, especially for a gaming laptop just seems cheap. This should at least be 16GB. But, as I said before, this will still get the job done. Overall, this system feels like it had a bit more potential, but I think they cut back on some of the components to hit that sub-$1000 mark. I have mixed feelings about this system overall, because I personally wouldn't buy it, but if you are someone who wants a system that is capable of playing modern games, is portable, and don't want to spend over $1000, then this is a perfect system for you, and I would definitely recommend it. As long as you fully understand the specs that you are getting with this system, I think you won't be disappointed. It is a well built system and is very nice to use.

I have been using the Gigabyte Aorus for several days now and it has quickly become my go to machine for so many tasks, not just gaming. The build quality is solid and it is very comfortable to use. I have been able to get some work done, and also have some fun gaming breaks using the same machine. So convenient and just makes sense for me to have one less device to carry around all the time. For gaming this laptop is excellent, I have enjoyed many hours of Call of Duty and Fortnite and have had no issues running either. The fans do kick up quite a bit when you are gaming, but that is to be expected from any laptop. I get solid frame rates for a portable device and the screen looks very nice as well, with very little glare even in a sunny room. The sound is good for what it is, but tame your expectations as this is not a super high end laptop with over the top speakers. Most people including myself game with a headset most of the time anyway so this really isn't a big selling point for a gaming laptop anyway in my opinion. The battery life is great unless you are gaming, but for that I always keep it plugged in anyway. Watching movies is excellent and the screen is easy on the eyes for long viewing sessions. Ports galore, you have room to plug in whatever you need including a full size HDMI port which is very nice! The finishing touch is the RGB Keyboard and RGB light bar on the laptop, beautiful! Do not hesitate, this is a great value for the price!

While this the first gaming laptop I have tested, I have used Gigabyte motherboards for PC builds in the past with great results. The first laptop I received had some issues, but Gigabyte support was quick to ship me a replacement, so my recommendation to you if you run into any issues to contact their support asap and they will do their best to help you.
What's good? I don't think my CPU utilization has gone higher than 25% during my tests. All of the emulators I tested worked like a charm, no audio issues or screen glitches. USB 2.0 transfer speeds topped out at 42 mb/s and averaged 35 mb/s when transferring files. Likewise, USB 3.0 speeds averaged 70 mb/s and USB C 3.0 averaged 170 mb/s, making this by far the fastest device in my arsenal at the moment. Video quality was excellent. Resolution maxes out at 1080p, but the HDR and 144hz video refresh rate really help to keep images clear, crisp, and vibrant.
What could be improved? Memory (amount and speed) and the GPU. Running Hot Wheels Unleased thru my xbox app maxed both of these items out at 90% , and only 20% CPU usage. I did put the cooling fans on turbo mode (in the Gigabyte control center) once I saw temps hit 55 Celsius while playing. Battery life also seems short...about 2 hours of playing a game or other intensive tasks took the battery down from 100% to under 40% in that short timeframe. Not a gamer? Well, just having word, windows explorer, and task manager also used up 80% of my memory. 8 GB is pretty low nowadays, so maybe wait until they ship a model with at least 16 GB, or prepare yourself to get an extra memory stick to increase your memory. Also, if you are a fan of overclocking, I didn't see an area to do that in the bios. But the low overall CPU usage means you may not ever need to overclock?

I got this laptop for Christmas. I love the rainbow keyboard. The laptop itself seems pretty sturdy and is a little on the heavier side. I had the RAM upgraded to 16GB and the SSD to 1TB. The boot up process is a bit slow and when gaming the fans do get a little loud. I’m very hsppy with this laptop.

This laptop comes with a charging cable, a quick start guide and runs Windows 11. There are more ports than usual for a laptop with 3 USB-A, 2 USB-C ports, an Ethernet port, HDMI and Display ports and an audio jack. This gives you plenty of room for anything you want to use with this laptop. This is a rarity I was looking for in a laptop.
The display is FHD with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphic card with 6G of dedicated memory and the CPU is an Intel i5-13500H. Most games will work well with this laptop. The keyboard is backlit and can easily be seen in a dark room.
The laptop has 8 GB of memory and comes with a 512 GB SSD hard drive. If you have games that take up a lot of space, you may not be able to fit them all on this hard drive. If you have that many games, you might want to use this as a back up for traveling.
The audio on this laptop is pretty good also. It is great for game play and movies at any volume, and it does have some volume. If you are looking for a great sound for music though, you may want to invest in a good headset. But as far as sound goes for a laptop, it is pretty decent.
The price range and features of this laptop make this great for any gamer starting out or a great addition for gamers that want to be on the move.

The Gigabyte AROUS 15.6 FHD gaming laptop out of the box is very impressive. It has an excellent and sturdy build. I was very impressed with the placement of the HDMI, power plug port, video ports, and ethernet on the back of the laptop.
It makes for a beneficial placement on your desk and pairing it with a larger monitor. It also has very impressive backlighting under the monitor, which is fantastic, not to mention the impressive 15.6 1920 x 1080 display with exceptional clarity. Which is also Rheinland certified.
Gigabyte has also packed the video G-Force rtx40 series and the video G-Force RTX 4050 laptop GPU 6 GDDR6. I played a first-person shooter with no lag or disappointment. You have plenty of room for your favorite games with DDR5 4800 8GB*1 (8GB) storage and 512GB Storage (Gen4 M.2 SSD). It also has lovely audio specs with DTS:X Ultra Audio Technology, Built-in Microphone, and 2x 2W Speakers.
I am a gamer, but this laptop is excellent for everyday tasks and web entertainment. The Battery life last all day with constant use.

Gigabyte laptops showcase precision structure for the pro gamer, and the Aorus line allows the gamer to focus less on the technical specs needed to run a game and to instead focus on playing the game itself. With its sleek design and impressive features under the hood, the Aorus 15 stands out as a great option for the serious gamer.
Gigabyte's Aorus 15 has a beautiful presentation, with an all-black casing accentuated by textured lines that give the laptop a unique feel. Even the touchpad has these parallel accent lines that have a rainbow effect under light. It is a heavy device, so while portable it is very much a desktop adjacent gaming station. The keyboard has standard, chiclet style keys that feel responsive but also a bit small. There is no numeric keypad, so take that into consideration. Finally, the device has three USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI port, Mini DisplayPort, and an Ethernet port, as well as an audio combo jack.
When powered on, the device emits a pulsating blue and purple glow from below the full HD 15.6" screen and fully backlit keyboard. The light sensor area actually adjusts to ambient light in the room, a nice touch. The screen definitely catches the eye and takes up a lot of machine real estate without being fully edge-to-edge. Bold and bright, this screen is sharp with high resolution for good balance and smoothness during gaming. Most importantly, the Aorus 15 provides stable performance while running game after game along with any other tasks you throw at it between and during sessions. Those sessions run effortlessly and for a long time due in part to some really impressive cooling technology.
Built for gaming, the Aorus 15 does not disappoint. Minecraft and Roblox play well, with chat and video running smoothly. More graphics-intense games like Forza and Fortnite showed no drop-offs either. I tested numerous games with the Xbox Game Pass trial that comes with the device, and while not all of them are winners, it wasn't due to the quality of the operating system. And with the exclusive Gigabyte Control Center software preloaded into the device, you can precisely monitor your CPU and memory usage and build temperatures in real-time while also customizing it to your specific needs.
This laptop has all the bells and whistles you want for a gaming laptop. Highly recommended.

This GIGABYTE AORUS laptop is a portable 5lb laptop for the gamer on the go. It would be a good fit for students or anyone else that needs the portability and 8-hour battery life needed to get through the day, and then be able to plug in and play some games or stream a movie.
The Intel i5-13500H processor is this laptop is a mid-range quad-core CPU that can boost up to 4.7GHz with an 18M Cache, and 12 cores (4xP-cores & 8 E-cores). The heavy lifting in game play is done by the GPU and here the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with 6GB VRAM is paired with a stunning 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 FHD display with a 144Hz refresh rate to deliver fluid game play. While the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU is listed as a mid-range graphics card, the RTX 4000 series is the latest series of NVIDIA GPU’s and the 4050 is faster than the last generation NVIDIA 3060 card. It can run most games near the high settings at FHD resolution on this laptop. You can easily switch between the NVIDIA video card and the Intel Built-In graphics which use less power to stretch your battery run-time.
This model comes with 8GB of DDR5 memory. I’m guessing 16GB would put it over the $1k price point. It’s a shame as the laptop feels slow, there’s too much memory swapping once you open a few apps and tabs in a browser. Multitasking is painful. I find 8GB an odd choice for a gaming laptop. Many PC games a ported from a console version and consoles run with 16GB of RAM. The games are typically built for the console first, and then ported to the PC keeping that 16GB design architecture.
Fortunately, there are two DDR5 RAM slots with one empty slot making a quick upgrade to 16GB easy. With the AORUS you have the possibility of installing two 32GB modules for a total of 64GB of DDR5-4800 RAM! Many laptops have RAM soldered on and are not upgradeable, the laptops with upgradeable RAM are usually limited to 32GB, so this is a welcome surprise at this price point. With the choice of 16GB installed or 8GB with a 64GB capability, I agree with AORUS’s decision. For me, being able to get 64GB makes up for including just 8GB of RAM.
For storage, there are two M.2 Type 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen 4.0x4 slots. One slot has a 512GB stick of M.2 storage. More than enough for the OS, some apps and a few games. You have the option of adding up to a 4TB M.2 stick in the other empty slot for more storage.
Upgrading RAM and storage on the AUROS is easy, even for a novice. The back cover is split in 2. Remove the larger part which is fastened around the perimeter with Torx T-6 screws. I prefer the secure grip Torx gives over Phillips screws. Far less chance of stripping or not removing a stubborn screw with Torx. Once the cover is off, the DIMM and M.2 slots are right there. Some laptops put these on the other side of the mainboard requiring its removal. Not here, all is easily accessible. When the day comes years from now, you can also replace the 99WH battery in this compartment. It seems like the service techs had a say in the design of this laptop, which is a refreshing change. I hope it catches on.
This AORUS laptop has Microsoft Azure AI technology, which can detect the game you are playing and automatically apply corresponding CPU/GPU and fan settings. Aurous is the first to market with this. No need to tweak the settings, your hardware is optimized to provide the best gaming experience possible whatever the ambient temperature and gameplay. This seems to work really well. Despite having just 8GB and the PC being sluggish with a few apps open, the games ran really well. Better than I was expecting after running Edge and Office apps. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 ran smoothly at 43 FPS as did Forza Horizon 5 pushing just past 60FPS. The fan noise was kept low unless I was really pushing it. I also noticed that the fan noise pitch was not as high as other laptops, which is easier on the ears.
The Wi-Fi supports the latest 6E standard and it works well keeping a solid connection that never dropped on me. Bluetooth V5.2 is also the latest and worked well with my mouse and external speakers. The display panel lid has a FHD (1080p) Webcam that supports Windows Hello Face Authentication as well as an array Microphone.
There are ports of every type and plenty of them using the latest USB 3.2 ports. The impressive list of ports includes:
Left Side Ports:
• 1 x USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-A)
• 1 x Audio combo Jack
Right Side Ports:
• 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-A)
• 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-C)
Rear Ports:
• 1 x Thunderbolt™ 4 (Type-C, support Power delivery)
• 1 x HDMI 2.1
• 1 x Mini DP 1.4
• 1 x RJ45
• 1 x DC in
The full-size keyboard of this laptop is comfortable and responsive. It also has RGB backlighting that allows you to customize the color colors and effects using the AORUS Control Center software. The touchpad is large and responsive. It’s all black, a subtle yet stylish laptop with some custom ribbed texturing on the case, one of the best looking I’ve come across in a while. The build quality is excellent, all parts match up perfectly, no gaps or unfinished edges. The case is also very sturdy with no flex.
The AORUS 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop offers decent performance for the price. It can manage most games; however, you will want to add at least another 8GB, more if you plan to run several apps and multi-task, or work with photo or video editing software. This is one of the easiest laptops to upgrade I’ve ever come across, provided you get a T-6 Torx driver. Order one if you don’t have one. This is the only tool you need as the RAM and M.2 modules are held in with clips. Very easy. I plan to increase RAM to 64GB and add a 4GB M.2 drive soon as I plan on making this my primary laptop.
If upgrading the RAM and possibly the storage is not for you, you might want to look for other alternatives that come with at least 16GB. But at this price point, it will be difficult to match this level of performance, capability, features, and build quality.
I’m giving this 5 stars for its excellent design, serviceability, build quality, having all the latest features and versions, and can support 64 GB of RAM, which is such a rare find at any price point. I can forgive it for just having 8GB and accept that I will need to add more RAM as its still a great laptop at this price after adding more RAM.

The shipping box arrived on my my door. I was super excited to open the box. For the size, it's not terribly heavy in weight for a gaming machine. The build is sturdy. I like that the display hinge isn't at the back of the frame. It feels stronger this way. I thought the 8GB would make it a bit light on RAM. You can add an additional 8GB if you need to. I think I'll need to. This is not enough RAM to handle most games nowadays. It did make a difference when I was playing games. The sound quality is great for laptop speakers. It's good for streaming video and games, however if you want to listen to music, they may not be the best for that. The 512 SSD is decent unless you play a lot of different games with a heavy footprint. As I'm typing this review, the entire screen flickers. It's not a regular interval and I am not running anything that may tax the resources. I'll be checking for updates again but I ran them right out of the box. The trackpad is tough to left click. Tapping it works fine, but if you are looking for the click and actually clicking the left corner, it's a tough press. Other than gaming, the productivity of the laptop is smooth. The more things open, the more ram you'll need so might want to upgrade before really going crazy on the multitasking. I think it's a decent starter gaming laptop that could have used a few more bells and whistles like more RAM and larger SSD. I hope to get the flicker taken care of with my next round of updates.

The hard drive is a bit on the small side. I only had enough room to install a couple of AAA titles at once before running out of drive space. Hopefully, I cover enough below with the games I did test to help make an informed decision on this model.
One of the games tested was Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I was able to turn on DLSS and use the Best Quality preset for the game. I ran a short test flight, keeping an eye out for any stuttering with the graphics, but didn’t see any at all. The game ran very smooth, from takeoff to landing, with no noticeable issues with the scenery loading. I mention this, because I have watched other computers struggle with having the graphics turned up and normally end up trading framerates for picture quality.
Another title that I was able to play for a little while was Atomic Heart, which fully supports DLSS 3.0. I was also able to run this game with DLSS set to Best Quality. As I played through the game and moved around throughout the environment, not only was the gameplay smooth, but the graphics were amazing, especially the reflections on the different types of surfaces and materials. There were practically no loading times as I played on.
Both games used all 8GB of system memory while running, but I never realized any performance issues because of this.
The 144Hz HD display has pretty good picture quality, whether it be for gaming, or otherwise. It gave a smooth presentation while gaming. I didn’t notice any excessive backlight bleeding on this display panel. I also tested the HDMI 2.1 output and was able to output 4k@30Hz w/o HDR and 1920x1080@120Hz w/ HDR. It seems the GPU just doesn’t support higher refresh rates at 4k and feels like a hardware limitation from Nvidia and not Gigabyte.
The fans were able to draw heat away efficiently from the laptop without being overwhelmingly noisy. The RGB light on the keyboard, as well as underneath the display are a nice touch and are customizable using Gigabyte’s Control Center software. The fan speeds are adjustable and have some built-in presets and an AI mode to optimize the system for gaming, content creation and general use to name several.
The overall design of the laptop is nice, with a seemingly metal lid, but both the top and bottom of the laptop are fingerprint magnets. There are ample USB connections on the laptop to hook up just about anything you might need.
To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this model with its specifications. However, I was quite surprised at how well it ran these resource intensive games almost effortlessly. It goes without saying that older games should run well on this, with its current generation of Intel CPU (i5-13500H) and Nvidia GPU (RTX 4050 6GB).
I wish it had more internal storage space and system memory, but it does surprisingly well with this configuration.
