The AORUS 16X (2024) emerges as a formidable contender in the high-performance gaming laptop arena, boasting an impressive array of features and specifications designed to elevate your gaming experience. Forget the idea that this isn't a name we normally see, but with these features and performance, we need to get use to this name. With its powerful 13th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, and a stunning 16-inch QHD+ display with a blazing 165Hz refresh rate, this laptop promises to deliver a beauty of a gaming experience. Upon unboxing it, you're greeted with a sleek, minimalist design that exudes a premium feel. The laptop's aluminum chassis is both sturdy and lightweight, striking a balance between portability and durability. The black finish with subtle AORUS branding adds a touch of elegance. Basiclly put, its pretty even before you power it and cut it on. The keyboard features per-key RGB lighting, allowing for customizable lighting effects that add a personalized touch to your liking. The centerpiece of the hot features is its gorgeous 16-inch QHD+ (2560 x 1600) IPS display. The high resolution and 165Hz refresh rate combine to deliver stunning visuals with exceptional clarity and smoothness. Colors are vibrant and accurate, thanks to the display's wide color gamut and X-Rite factory calibration. The anti-glare coating ensures comfortable viewing even in bright environments. The audio is equally impressive, with two powerful speakers delivering clear, immersive sound. Whether you're battling it out in a fast-paced shooter or enjoying a cinematic cutscene, the AORUS 16X's audio capabilities enhance your immersion. Its not the audio solution mind you but if you don't have killer gaming headset this will get the job done until you have new headset. Under the hood, the AORUS 16X is a true powerhouse. The 13th-generation Intel Core i7-13700H processor delivers exceptional performance for both gaming and productivity tasks. Whether you're editing videos, compiling code, or running demanding simulations, this CPU handles it all with ease. Then we have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, the heart of the prowess. It provides ample power to run the latest AAA games at high settings with smooth frame rates. The laptop also supports NVIDIA's advanced features like DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), which uses AI to upscale graphics while maintaining visual fidelity, and Ray Tracing, which simulates the behavior of light for incredibly realistic visuals. This chip alone is enough to justify the cost, its AMAZING! To further enhance performance, it comes with 16GB or 32GB of DDR5 RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and responsiveness. Storage options include fast PCIe Gen4 SSDs with capacities ranging from 512GB to 2TB, providing ample space for your games, applications, and files. Battery Life, while gaming laptops aren't known for their stellar battery life, this one manages to impress. With its 99Wh battery, you can expect around 5-6 hours of moderate usage, such as web browsing or video playback. Of course, battery life will be significantly shorter during gaming, but it's still respectable for a laptop with this level of performance. Bottom line, get one. If you need top end performance, you need this laptop. Simple as that.

Beautiful Gaming Perfomance When Plugged In to AC

This GigaByte Aorus 16X laptop is an interesting one. It's a 16” gaming laptop that's decently specced so on paper would be chunky. Instead it's surprisingly svelte in looks and weight coming in around 5lbs. So, it doesn't look that different from some less powerful laptops in size and aesthetic. That said, if the keyboard lighting is active or someone catches a glimpse of those molded aggressive looking heat vents, the cat will be let out of the bag. In fact, those heat vents are about my biggest complaint in the looks department for this laptop. Unboxing and Initial Impressions I liked the unboxing process of this laptop for the lack of waste or extraneous packing materials. You get the laptop, AC adapter, manual/guides with minimal wasted space. Feels like they're continuing the less is more design here as well. While you'll see the Aorus logo on the box and various other places including the laptop itself, for some reason it looks a lot more impactful on the cardboard shielding the laptop. The laptop itself is stunning in that deep dark metallic looking blue color. There's also a cool chromatic effect with the logo on the back of the laptop screen but I think something more muted may actually have ended up looking better. The looks are also tempered by the case material. It's a hard plastic which while it resists picking up fingerprints also seems like it would scuff a bit over time, at least on the underside of the laptop. The palm rest/keyboard are and back of the screen do seem like they're a bit more robust, but is a stark transition to the rest of the chassis that makes me wonder about the build quality and longevity in a home with children. The initial setup process was ok.there's pretty much no bloatware. You do have a control panel for the graphics card and keyboard lighting installed which will announce themselves and Windows seems to be just as annoying to configure and harder to configure all the privacy settings I'd like, but otherwise I was up and running after about 10 minutes. It's also at this point that i noticed that this laptop has a few AI features I'll get into later which I wasn't expecting. That Display! One thing you cant help but notice is the display. The Aorus 16X has a 16-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels that takes up most of the display real estate. The display is bright and vibrant, with a fast refresh rate of 165Hz, which makes it ideal for gaming, especially coupled with the i7 CPU, 32GB of RAM and RTX 4070. Yes, there's an SSD in there and it benchmarked okay, but its not outstanding so the CPU, RAM, and GPU and thermal design are what's carrying the show. But man is the display gorgeous. This makes for great gaming but also great video streaming on the go. I'm realizing how much I've pulled back from doing this on other machines because it felt very natural to catch up on episodes of shows while seated back on the couch. The aspect ratio is a natural fit for a lot of video content, maybe less so for YouTube, and the screen is crisp, bright and yet having a deep contrast for dark scenes. Inputs You get a decent sized keyboard with the Aorus 16X that has some travel. I felt it was okay. There was nothing that stood out as bad and I did well running through my typing tutor speed test. But it also didn't stand out to me. The track pad however feels much better, tactile with a subtle click, very responsive but at the same time it didn't get spurious triggered by the back of my arm brushing against it. Moving onto ports, you get a couple USB A and C ports, audio jack, micro SD card slot, full size ethernet jacket and HDMI out. There's also a 1080p Webcam. It does a decent job though not the best. I think its hampered by needing to squeeze into a small bezel due to the screen to body ratio of the display. Gaming and Performance This system benchmarked well and was even more impressive playing games. Battlefield ran at an impressive 140 FPS on medium with the fans throttling up to maintain performance. Turned up to Ultra and you're still hitting an incredible 115-120 FPS which begs the question, why wouldn't you just run that way all the time? Well, I can answer that - the fan noise. Here we start to see some of the tradeoffs with squeezing this much power into a compact and lightweight package. Consider investing in good sound insulating headphones as the speakers are underwhelming. Doing so would enable you to address two issues. Another caveat, the performance achievement is reached with power connected and running on the laptop screen. Going to an external monitor over USB C (and I assume the same thing would happen over HDMI), there's a noticeable drop to around 80 FPS. Running just on battery even on the internal screen dramatically drops performance into the 20 FPS with some choppiness at ultra. Going back down to medium graphics settings gets you up into the 30s and is definitely playable, but if you do notice the difference. For non gaming work or play, whether in an IDE, running some circuit design software, or videos in Chrome, there's very little difference on and off battery. Perhaps navigating a PCB layout isn't quite as smooth but otherwise the only thing you really notice is the battery percentage ticking down. Battery I got about 6 hours of runtime on a single charge. Note, this wasn't with me playing games that entire time, it was mixed between about an hour in total over a couple games, browsihisthe internet, and watching a couple tv show episodes. This isn't that bad for a gaming laptop but i suspect due to the throttling discussed earlier, you'd likely game with power connected to maximize settings and take advantage of the display. Battery life here means more for gam-gaming use and likely is dominated and reduced by driving the screen. You can reduce power by configuring use of the integrated graphics for applications where you don’t need the GPU horsepower which may eke you out an additional 10% of runtime. AI Features So the GigaByte control center claims to be able to use AI to manage graphics and performance settings. I'm not too sure about that given that these are the same settings that laptops have been adaptive adjusting before ChatGPT was a thing. But what's definitely the real deal is the Stable Diffusion image generator. If you've played around with this online it can get annoying deal with trials and online interfaces. Having this built-in to the laptop is pretty cool, especially if you're someone who peppers your social media posts with AI generated art or memes. At the same time though, all the AI stuff felt gimmicky and perhaps there to take advantage of some people needing to leave the control center open. If you don't let it manage setting with AI, this is pretty much the only place to do it. And the Stable Diffusion front-end isn't available as it's own app which seems strange. Another thing that I noticed here, unlike my current work laptop which can still push to a USB C connected monitor when running on iGPU or dGPU, I couldn't push to the monitor after switch modes that way though HDMI still worked. This was verified using the latest GPU drivers though perhaps this will be addressed in the future. Closing Thoughts Overall, the GigaByte Aorus 16X is a powerful and somewhat stylish gaming laptop that offers pretty performance and a great display. I think it's a good choice for gamers looking for something that can handle a decent set of games while being somewhat future proof in terms of RAM, CPU, and GPU. It's not truly a mobile gaming machine as performance drops significantly running on battery. On some games, this will still be playable but on others it will suck. But being sub 5lbs makes up for a multitude of sins making this pretty portable even if you'll be carrying around the power brick or a USB PD capable charger.

    Laptop Geared Towards Gamers

This Laptop has a 16 inch screen, an Intel i7 processor, 32G of RAM and has a 1TB SSD hard drive. There are 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C ports, 1 HDMI port, an audio jack, a micro SD slot and an Ethernet port. The laptop also has a built in camera, microphone and speakers. With all these ports, you should be ready for anything. The build of this laptop is sturdy and well made. The design looks stylish with its simple black color and cool graphics. There is a light bar on the back which cycles through different colors and you can see “Aorus” projected onto any surface it sits on. This is so cool! I do like the back lit keyboard, especially for using this laptop in dimly lit rooms. The keyboard is a good size for a laptop and feels good to type on, unlike some of the other gaming laptops I have had. There are air vents on the side, back and bottom which allows for really good airflow so the computer doesn’t heat up. That being said, the fan runs a bit loud for my taste while playing games. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card is really good for the gaming that I do. I do not find any lag or pixilation and it seems like a well-rounded gaming card. The colors are vibrant and responsiveness is great. The speakers are what you would expect from a laptop, the sound is fine but not overly impressive. What is impressive is that this laptop has WiFi 7, which is becoming the standard in connectivity and my WiFi speed was great. This laptop runs Windows 11 and even has Windows Hello. I like that I can just turn on the laptop, sit in front of it and it will automatically sign me in because it can recognize me through the camera. I believe this is very good security. I still have the option of using a password or PIN if the lighting isn’t good enough. I found this laptop to be well rounded for gaming and daily use. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a gaming laptop in this price range.

Specifications are great for the price! Does everyday tasks quickly, very good screen quality. However, as a power user, I would not recommend for the following reasons: -USB devices plugged into a powered hun (keyboard, headset, and mouse) consistently disconnect. This is not due to missing drivers or malfunctioning cables (I've tested). -Battery when streaming video at 75% brightness does not last more than 2 hours. -Computer struggles to play vanilla Minecraft, medium settings, on battery power. Reached out to Gigabyte support to attempt to resolve issues, no response so far.

What a beast. This laptop is probably better than most peoples desktop computers. WOW were to start. First you have 1 TB of storage on a very fast NVME M.2 hard drive so no mechanical slow drive here with plenty of storage and room in the computer to add one more. It comes with 32 gig of DDR 5 Memory. The video card of ya a Nvidia 4070 so you get all the bells and whistles of a 40 series video card. The only let down of the video card is its an 8 Gig video memory version. So if your trying to run games full tilt max settings it probably wont handle it very good. It has a QHD + monitor so video quality is very nice. The keyboard is backlit so you can play with the keyboard colors for days if that's your thing. The CPU is an intel i7-14650 so it's running at max turbo Frequency of 5.2 GHZ So no doubt it's very fast. It also has type C and 4 usb and an HDMI out to run on another monitor if you feel like. I did some testing and installed Diablo 4 to run it and see how well it preformed. I did not mess around i turned the video settings to max and turned on max Ray Tracing settings and i was pleasantly pleased that i was getting about 75 FPS steadily. This laptop is not only a gaming beast but it will also work well for people looking for a work computer. I was very happy with it's all around performance. Not to mention its Gigabyte one of the best names out there when it comes to anything computer.

Pro: -Great cooling -Cool RGB projection -Good battery life Con: -Transparent gamer keys -Only one Thunderbolt port -Stable Diffusion was preinstalled This laptop packs a lot in while remaining relatively light. It’s not too thick and the power brick is on the lighter side, making it easiest to travel with. There’s RGB on the keyboard and on the back. The back area projects the Aorus logo, which is neat. The keyboard WASD keys are transparent, making the lights overly bright and distracting that I just ended up turning them all the way down. For ports, there are HDMI out, ethernet, headphone jack, a micro SD card slot, two USB A, and two USB C. However only one of the USB C is Thunderbolt. That’s a bit disappointing considering other laptops usually would have it both be Thunderbolt ports. One glaring negative, for me, was that Stable Diffusion was installed as part of the Gigabyte Control Center. Under the AI functions of the Control Center, there was a feature for image generation. I can understand using AI to control power settings, but I see no need to include an AI image generator. I immediately uninstalled it. The display, which supports Dolby Vision, is great. Brightness and contrast looks good. If I had to nitpick, I would say the black is a bit washed with gray, but it’s really not too noticeable during gaming. It has a refresh rate of 165Hz so the gaming experience, powered by the 4070, is smooth. Audio is overall good and it supports Dolby Atmos. The front bottom firing speakers can get loud and clarity is good, but it can still sound a little hollow and lacking the fullness of the bass. The speakers do a good job of bouncing the sound so that it sounds like it’s coming from around the screen rather than from the bottom of the laptop. The cooling on the laptop is amazingly good. Unlike most gaming laptops, where the keyboard area would get warm, some even uncomfortably hot, this one never even got close to warm. Even though the internal temps can reach up to 80 degrees, the laptop never felt hot. The fans push the heat out the back and sides, leaving the keyboard area cool to the touch. The fan noise also doesn’t get that loud either. Sure it’s plenty audible, but it doesn’t have the high pitch whine and seemingly about to take off. Battery life is also good. Leaving it on and streaming videos with the RGB on low, it lasted about 3 hours. Gaming would depend on the intensity of the game, but would probably last about an hour. Performance wise, I’m happy with it. It has the specs for a great gaming experience. The display and speakers are overall good. The standout feature is the cooling. It’s one of the best I’ve seen, keeping the laptop from getting hot while not being too loud. The USB C ports should have both been Thunderbolt, and the inclusion of preinstalled Stable Diffusion was unnecessary and unneeded. Despite those, I still highly recommend it.

    Beast of a machine

I've been using this Gigabyte Aorus 16X (2024) for a couple weeks now, and let me tell you, it's a beast of a machine for gaming. Sure, it wasn't exactly cheap, but, I can crank the settings up to ultra on basically any game I throw at it and get buttery smooth frame rates. Plus, the screen is gorgeous, nice and bright with vibrant colors. It's actually really nice for everyday stuff too, like browsing or watching videos. The design is pretty sweet. It's got this clean, professional look that would impress anyone. A nice change from the usual bulky gaming laptops. They snuck some RGB lighting in there, but it's subtle and doesn't scream "gamer" like some others. Now, the battery life? Not gonna lie, that's a weak spot. Two hours on a full charge if I'm gaming? Yikes. Basically gotta keep this thing plugged in all the time. The software could also be better. There's some AI features they advertise, but they seem unfinished. Thankfully, I can still tweak the fancy lights and mess with the fan settings. Speaking of fans, they do get going pretty good under heavy load, but hey, at least the laptop isn't throttling like crazy. Overall, I'm happy with this Aorus. It's powerful, looks good, and the keyboard is comfy. But yeah, the battery life is a killer and the software needs work. If those aren't dealbreakers for you, then this is a great option for a gaming laptop that you won't need to upgrade anytime soon.

I have run through the gamut in the past couple years with gaming laptops from Alienware, Omen, and Asus to which they all have their standout features, but when it comes to bang for your buck Gigabyte definitely takes the crown!! This laptop includes nearly every bell or whistle you could ask for in a gaming laptop. First, right out of the box the build quality is exceptional! The matte finish gives it that sleek look and appeal with the iridescent highlights for the logo and branding. The aesthetics are bold, but also subdued as well for they don`t scream gaming laptop though have those subtle hints that pop. The light projector on the back is one of the cooler features I`ve seen in a while though I`m sure some will argue it`s a gimmick, but it`s a plus for me. Before opening the laptop you`ll also notice the extreme variety of ports here as this laptop has everything you could ask for with USB-A, USB-C/Thunderbolt, Micro SD, HDMI, Ethernet, and an audio jack. Upon opening the laptop and powering it up the first thing you notice is how thin the bezels are here all the way around, even on the top with the webcam included so you fully get one of the most compact laptops for the screen size. This was definitely a huge selling feature for me. Then with the keyboard I always appreciate the semi-transparent keycaps and the travel of the keys was great for a gaming laptop. Then with all these new keyboards today it does have that wonderful copilot key if that`s your AI of choice. Then the larger trackpad worked well as it has a nice click to it though I`m sure most people will be using an external mouse of some sort. When it comes to performance the first thing I like to do is throw on a high-resolution movie with a great soundtrack to test the screen and speakers. This is where this laptop continues to shine as the 16:10 aspect ratio gives that much appreciated larger viewing area due to the reduced bezel size. I was also impressed by the brightness here as it definitely felt much brighter than some other laptops I had used as the colors seemed to really pop here with the IPS display and true HDR capabilities with Dolby Vision. The sound here is really where this laptop starts to set itself apart though as Dolby Atmos and "Smart Amp" really provide that maximum volume that is extremely clear. The base can be lacking at times though again we are talking about laptop speakers so just basing it solely on that characteristic they are exceptional. Onto the actual performance though to which it can simply be stated that this thing is an absolute powerhouse! It took every game I could throw at it with Ultra settings and it did not blink in the slightest from Fortnite and Warzone to Hellblade II and Hades II. We could go into specs all day, but the Intel processor here coupled with the Nvidia graphics card on this machine leave nothing to be desired! Then add in the 32gb of DDR5 and 1 TB SSD and you have an extremely fluid and efficient running machine! When talking about performance a huge selling point here is how cool this thing stays with how quiet the fans are compared to its competitors. The thermal design is absolutely great! A nice feature is that when not using the laptop for gaming the fans will even turn off to create a noise-free environment when under low workloads. This cooling is also appreciated for gaming in another respect in that the keyboard remains cool to the touch as there is dedicated airflow specifically built for the keyboard. So with all these features you`d think the battery would be fully taxed, but it actually fared better than expected though when gaming I would still recommend keeping it plugged in to power unless you only plan on gaming for a short duration to which it does have the ability to fast charge up to 50% within just 30 minutes which I did find to be accurate. Then it wouldn`t be a 2024 technology product without "AI" to which this seems to be more of buzzword anymore. Here they have labeled this as essentially their built in efficiency software. It does a lot of the backend processing, similar to your armoury crate for those ASUS users. So, configuring the CPU, GPU, and fans to work together for the appropriate process at hand. This allows it to switch between the integrated and discrete GPU to adjust the necessary power in order to improve battery life and longevity. So again, a nice feature to have though nothing major to really notice while using the laptop. Overall though looking at the grand scope of things with this laptop it hits all every key feature you could ask for. From the matte finish with pop of color it presents that high end finish to the superior screen and outstanding performance with the exceptional cooling features there is very little to be asked for. Thus, for all of these features delicately refined and put together I really don`t think you can find a better value in a gaming laptop!
