Ive also played and finished all the God of War of games and loved every minute of them. When I saw the new one with a slightly aged Kratos I was very interested...so much so I ordered a PS4 Pro just to play it. I set everything up tonight and popped the disc in. I have to say the opening scene alone was incredible! The visuals are jaw dropping and the audio in my theater room is some of the best Ive heard in a while. This was all excellent but I still didn't get to try this new game style something that was totally different than previous iterations of the game. I dont want to ruin anything but I played until I met someone willing to upgrade my Leviathan Axe. All I could think about the entire time I played was how amazing this experience has been. The way the snow pushes out of the way when you or Atreus walks through it is mind blowing. The combat system so far has been very cool a welcome addition to the franchise in my opinion. Fast paced, but not as hectic hack and slash as previous games...It just feels more controlled and I love throwing the Axe! The story is very cool so far and Kratos has this maturity to him that's just awesome (don't worry hes still a beast!). Overall Id say purchasing a PS4 for this game alone was well worth it!!

God of War is a different game than what you are used to seeing. Kratos carries an ax as his primary weapon, and he is now tearing up Norse mythology. He and his son, Atreus, are on a quest, and the fires of his former rage have died down a little. The game is one of the most visually stunning on the PS4, and the PS4 Pro's performance mode makes the game very smooth, even if you don't have a 4K TV. The combat is still smooth and ferocious with finely tuned mechanics, great death animations, and a wide range of creatures to attack. It also feels just a touch more strategic than past games. The world itself is huge with snow covered forests, a giant lake, and multiple areas to explore and many secrets to find. There is some backtracking, but a lot of it has been my choice. This is a PlayStation console exclusive. If I didn't have a PS4, I would buy it for this, and I expect it to be on many top game of the year lists. It's that good. Although it's different than past games, Kratos has grown up (or maybe just old), but he can still kill a god or two if necessary. If you loved God of War, this new one will give you more than enough in content, fun, and wow moments to justify your purchase.

God of War has always been my favorite action adventure video game franchises. I've played them all and loved every single one of them. The hack 'n slash combat was the most fun and satisfying gameplay ever. There were the coolest monsters based on Greek mythology and the story lines were always interesting. This new Good of War is a sort of reboot and this time Kratos' world is based on Norse mythology. The gameplay has been changed a bit but it's a total improvement. You can make improvements and upgrades to weapons and armor etc. The main weapon, Leviathan Axe, is similar to Thor's hammer. In this game Kratos and his son Atreus go on an adventure together and fight together. During combat you can command Atreus to shoot at enemies and it all works out very well. It gets so fun that it's a wonder this style has never been done before. Also, the camera is from one continuous shot with no cuts. No in game load screens. Never been done before. I've said enough. Oh, and the graphics. Absolutely gorgeous! And that's just on my regular PS4! This might be the best game I've ever played and I've been gaming since the early '80s! This game is an absolute must play if you own a PS4!!

This game is a game where everyone involved put their full creativity into it. This is a game every competitive gamer should experience. The bots are amazing and well coordinated to keep you challenged every minute of the game. It is non stop action and countless boss fights. What I love the most about this game is that it is challenging for even the most experienced gamer even on the easiest difficulty you will encounter a boss that will make it worth your bucks. I am currently playing this game on the hardest difficulty and currently seeing my buddies struggle with even the easiest difficulty. I am usually the gamer who passes single player games in 2-3 days. However, this game playing in the hardest difficulty, not rushing because it is such a great game, as well playing all the side missions can say this game is EPIC. Hours and HOURS of fun. Even in 1080p the game looks amazing. I have found absolutely no glitches while playing this game which is a plus in todays gaming standards. Combat system is one of the best out there. The story is actually quite intriguing but I will leave you guys to find out! I would buy this game twice just to support santa monica studios...

I've been gaming since the 80s. This rendition of God of War is one of the best games I've ever played. My husband and I were going to share a copy but it is so good that I had to buy a second one so we could play at the same time. The game is flawless, beautifully written, looks fantastic on the PS4 Pro, and extremely addictive. There are several game saves unlike the recent Farcry 5. Although, I find myself not needing to go back and play earlier saves because the game does a great job of going back to where you need to go if you die. I love the fact that there are puzzles that make you think and you aren't just running and gunning constantly. Or in the case of Kratos, running and chopping everyone with his ax. I'm also a huge Stargate SG-1 fan so have enjoyed hearing Christopher Judge's unmistakable voice as Kratos. It continues to surprise me at every turn and it is not repetitive at all. I highly recommend God of War for any gamer who appreciates an excellent story with RPG/open world elements that makes you think about how to kill bosses and complete puzzles. As reviewers have mentioned, you can't just button mash and expect to win.

This game is beatiful graphics wise and the storytelling is top notch. I've always been a god of war fan but this game is a complete overhaul of the series. The old ones were petty cool but Kratos didn't really have any depth and the combat was pure hack n slash. This new entry portrays Kratos with a lot more depth and emotion and the combat is even better and harder, because it's not just button mashing. At first I wasn't sure if I would like this one because it's so different then the others in the series but I gave it a chance and it really blew me away. The relationship between Kratos and his son is well done and you start feeling for both of them. You explore a semi open world and you can revisit areas later on. You don't really need to play the previous ones to enjoy this one but it kind of gives it a foundation. It's emotional like the last of us but it's a completely different game, not merely a clone. I honestly can't put it down because I just want to see what comes next in terms of story and locales. Would highly recommend as a fan or a newcomer. If you want to feel really powerful like a beast just try this game out.

Three letters... WOW! When they said the graphics on the PS4 Pro would blow you away, I immediately thought... "I guess that means us regular PS4 users won't be nearly as impressed with the detail." WRONG! I can't say enough how amazing this game looks even on a regular PS4 running on an 4K Ultra HD set. I'm sure my own Sony TV has something to do with the quality too, but man is it breathtaking. The eye-candy is second to none in my opinion. And even though I've only put in about 4 to 5 hours of game play, I can't say enough good things about that too. I usually don't spend a lot of time doing PvE campaigns in most video games. My preference is to jump right into the PvP stuff, but this game has me hooked and locked into it, and I haven't done any PvP in any other games in a few days now. I also purchased Far Cry 5 well before GoW, and I played maybe an hour of that before losing interest. The graphics were really good, but I wasn't so fond of the story line and some of the game play. GoW is easily one of the best action titles this year, if not THE best. I highly recommend it.

Boi! This game is perfect as a relatively new father! I love the fact that Kratos now has to go through the same struggles as us! God of War; maybe, but good luck being a father buddy! That aside, this game is spectacularly gorgeous with incredibly smooth gameplay. Having only recently and barely played the GOW3 remake for PS4, I'm not sure how I feel about having to use R1 and R2 for the attacks, but over-all it seems to be working. I'm still only maybe an hour in, just defeated "The Stranger" but this game has me hooked. Not only on the gameplay but with how smooth the transitions are from story to gameplay. Seamless experience so far. Another comparison and improvement coming from the GOW3 remake - the camera controls. I love that we can control the camera angles. Overall this game seems to be put together very well and I'm looking forward to completing this journey with my BOI! Definitely worth playing on PS4Pro with a 4K HDR Television, but I'd imagine it being just as fun of an experience in plain ol HD as well.

God of War brings single player and story telling back to the forefront in a way that we haven't seen since The Last of Us. In open world games, I will usually find myself getting bored of the endless side quests, and inevitably start to skip them in order to progress the story. GoW keeps traversing this enourmous, beautiful, emersive world fun. From stories in the host, to the always changing scenary, there is always something to keep you exploring. The combat is fluid. Many hack and slash style games leave the player wanting more, or leave you feeling constantly open for attack. The upgrade system for weapons and skills ensures that you can always evolve your combat style to be better or different once you get the next ability. This is a must own. If you don't have a PS4, and you've been on the fence, this is the game to make the plunge. If you do have a PS4, what are you waiting for! God of War is easily the best title on the console, and quite possibly the best game of the current generation.

My title should say it all, I picked up a PS4 Pro just for this game, on 4k it is just cinematic. Ths game as everything, graphics are eye popping in 4k, seamlessly goes from gameplay to cutscene back to gameplay. It's Uncharted, Tomb Raider hack and slash on steroids. There are puzzles, challenges, platforming, crafting, skill trees. It's not a true open world game but it sure feels like one. You can follow just the story or get side tracked on quest. But these side quest are not just distractions to make the game larger than it really is. These side quest all have story meaning. This game is huge, I keep finding new areas after new. I'm an older gamer been gaming for more years than I would admit and I say hand on heart this is the best game ever. I'm a very loyal xbox fan and there is nothing on xbox that compares. If you have the money, I would even recommend buying a PS4 pro, 4k tv just to play this game. It really is that good.

Really I dont want to spoil anything for anyone by talking about the story much besides its awesome, This game is a must own for anyone with a PS4, especially if you have a Pro and an HDR TV, if you don't, this game in of itself might be reason enough to take the plunge. The scenery and graphics are gorgeous, the acting by Christopher Judge is superb (As is the actor who plays his son, the two of them have EXCELLENT chemistry together). Definitely play it in 4k mode. Gameplay its God of War with a fresh twist, its gone more open world and RPG, the game is just as enjoyable taking in the gorgeous scenery as it is when you get into the very superb and challenging combat. The game has grown up significantly and is no longer JUST the over the top violent boss fights of the original games. That said, not for the kiddies, Not at all. Likewise, Kratos as a character has grown significantly from the last time we saw him, but thats all I will say. This is my game of the year so far.

This game is a masterpiece. I have never used that word for any other game (not even LoU). The gameplay is completely different from the previous "saga". Your main weapon is an axe. You don't really get another weapon like in previous games. You do have a sidekick, your son, which u can control to some extent. Combos are simple but once you get the grasp of it, you can make so much more The story is great. If you played the previous games you know who kratos is. If you haven't, the story gives hints to his past and it will give you a good idea. And his relationship with his son is great. You can see it progress and evolve. Ever since I started playing, I can't get enough. Finding pieces of lore, learning about Norse mythology, visiting the 9 realms, everything is amazing. The best part about this, it's like a movie. There are no loading screens. It just one seamless story. It just goes on and it's hard to put it down.

I was a little hesitant when the newest God of War was announced a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the series but between God of War III and God of War Ascension, I felt the games had become stale. God of War (2018) proves that a classic can be reinvented and deliver! I won't spoil the game with plots points but I will say that the Nordic mythology backdrop is breathtaking! I played this on my PS4 Pro and I was constantly in awe of my surroundings. As I progressed, I was anxious about what was in store for me with the story that I was fully into. Do you need to have played the previous games to fully enjoy this God of War? No, but if you have played the previous games then there's a fuller understanding of the head nods/easter eggs. There's a lot to do in the game with side missions and collectibles which brought my initial playthrough around 40 hours. If you like good looking games, solid combat mechanics, and pure fun then this God of War is meant for you.

Santa Monica/Sony had a difficult job of taking an established, fan loved franchise, updating it to make people want to continue playing, while not alienating the core fan base. Well, with GOW, they not only did that, they exceeded all expectations. This game is amazing. They took the series in an all new direction, while keeping the core things people love about the series intact. As for the game itself, without giving anything away: graphically it's beautiful, one of the best looking games right now. Gameplay mechanics are top notch, and will keep you engaged/wanting to play more. Story/plot are a great continuation of the GOW series. I highly recommend this game. If you like the GOW series, you'll enjoy this game a lot. If you a ps4 owner and just want to play the best games the system offers, you'll enjoy this game a lot. If you've wanted for a game to get you into the new gen of systems, this is it & you'll enjoy this game a lot.

From the few hours (8-9) that have been playing it is a pleasant experience overall, the graphics are awesome, the setting of the game makes it feel somehow expansive, mysterious and rather magical, personally I like that. As a fan of the series I can say that it feels refreshing to play God of War within a different setting, with a different camera angle and weapons, I’m enjoying it every second of course. Good •Graphics •Story (just haven’t finished it yet) •Heads up display (only appears when needed) •Difficulty (playing on hard is an actual challenge) •Remap buttons options (having it is always welcomed) Bad •Cluttered menus (like the one showing your quests, your armor and customization ones) •Nothing else yet... It has been a great game up to this point, so I’m looking forward to get the platinum.

my first God of War was GoW 2 on the PS2. Since then, I have played this series across 3 consoles over a span of 12 years. I have to admit, I was not enthralled by the trailer for this exclusive (not as much as HZD or Spider Man). However, I decided to try the game as I was devoted to the series for a decade. The game is visually breathtaking. it is in the same league as Horizon Zero Dawn and Shadow of The Tomb Raider (visually) on the Pro. The gameplay is also a lot of fun. The fact that that camera angles can finally be controlled after 7 titles into the series makes this feel less like a sequel and more like a fresh take on a classic, much like Square Enix's 2014 reboot of Tomb Raider. The story is very interesting, but then again, storytelling has always been a highlight of this series. In conclusion, I would recommend this game to both the OG fans and newcomers.

This game is quite interesting. It looks like it plays radically different, yet alot of the things you do in previous God of War games, they do transfer into this game. So it is new, but if you have experience in previous games, you can also see where they implemented the same concepts. But on top of that, there is this big, meaty game. The best comparison I can give is that it feels well-paced like Resident Evil 4. It has open hub areas, but that isn't the same as your average "open world" game. So, its both open and linear at the same time. Now, I am not the type of person that replays a game multiple times, my goal is to do everything I can possibly do in one playthrough, but it feels like it may be worth playing through if you excel at learning the combat. On top of that, it looks great, it present a great story. If you want to find a single-player game that is worth owning, this is among the best for the PS4.

So much has already been said about this game that I doubt anything I say would be something that hasn't been said already. It's a ton of fun. It's challenging. It is absolutely a must buy for a PS4 owner. As a long time fan, or someone new to the franchise, it is an incredibly satisfying experience. It's not perfect, though. The story drags a little in the middle. It could use a little more variation in the boss and enemy types. And it could use a few more animations on the grapple kills. However, the story absolutely pays off in the end. And persevering through the challenge of the game leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction you rarely find in modern gaming. Not that it should be necessary to say, but this game is for mature audiences. It's brutal, but that is the charm of God of War games to begin with. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this one. You will not be disappointed if you pick it up.

The previews of this game had my hopes up very high. The game actually exceeded my expectations! First of all the game is absolutely gorgeous and grand in scope. The combat system is extremely fun and satisfying, although I often found myself forgetting about moves I previously unlocked until I executed them by accident. But the main triumph in this game is the story. The interaction between Kratos and Atreus is mesmerizing and watching the relationship between them develop over the course of the game is fantastic. The other characters in the game are very memorable and their performances are world class. The only criticism I have of this game is that it was shorter than I expected, which is to say that I devoured it. This is one of the few games in which I look forward to the DLC. The last game I played that was this good was Horizon Zero Dawn...and that is saying something.

I bought the God of War Saga collection, which had all the games released at the time, and played through them all. 2 was probably the best of the bunch (same director as this game) but none of them were really that great. The enemy variety and gameplay in general would get really repetitive and boring. The formula of the games was hallway - battle arena - hallway - battle arena, with QTE boss fights thrown in the mix now and then. I was so relieved that they finally mixed up the formula. Kratos is upgradable, the world offers exploration and there is more depth to the battle mechanics than just button mashing. The biggest surprise of all, Kratos has depth and is no longer a wooden one-note angry man with no redeemable qualities but someone who's story I actually enjoyed following. This game is everything I wasn't expecting, which is all I ever wanted.
