This game is beautiful, and the action is epic. Bosses are limited but there are hints of more to come.

A masterpiece, God of War continues the story of Kratos from the first trilogy (Not required to have played the first 3, but a quick read of the wikipedia for the story is helpful) while building on the characterization. Heavy, impactful combat is marred only by the slight repition of enemy and miniboss fights.

I am loving the game so far but for a god of war title I could do without the rpg mechanics. It's just implemented a little too much with enemy difficulty being dictated by numbers more so than skill.

Make sure you take your time and upgrade your weapons. I'm stuck on the final boss.

The graphics are good but the gameplay constantly removes control from you and camera is too close to main character. The combat is very simple compared to previous games. Enemy variety especially bosses is disappointing.

This game is great, as are all the GOW games I've played. My only issue is that there can be a lag after pressing a button to make a hit, which sometimes allows enemies to strike. Some of the controls feel sticky as well, but that may be just my controller (standard issue).

It was a great price for what I got but it is not the God of War I was expecting. Thought the variety of bosses would've been better...instead, I dealt with a swarm of oversized ogres. I'll recommend it but, only if you can catch it for sale...not at full price.

Very good game. Interesting story and strong control over movements. Challenging boss fights and plenty of content and it doesnt bore you with finding too many useless artifacts

GoW reminds me a lot of Zelda ocarina of time. A game I spent hours on as a kid. There are not too many lengthy cut scenes and the game does a good job of guiding the player without hand holding. Enemies and encounters are different enough so it doesn't ever feel like a grind.

This is by far the most engrossing and interesting PS4 game with a story driven narrative I've played yet. I am constantly interesting in the mythology and dialogue sequences about this game and I rarely feel as if I run into a scenario where I've to look up how to do something as the game naturally leads you towards solving various puzzles and challenges. Although not open world, I think I prefer a non-open world approach to help maintain focus on the story and keep the progression simple. @@@@@@@@ A problem I had with Horizon Zero Dawn and Fallout 4) The combat system is incredible and 25+ hours in, I am still floored to engage in even minor enemy combat.

So far I like it. Its hard to get used to the controls because its easy to lose track of enemies in this third person view but its more challenging and realistic that way. Basically, buy this game now. You will not be disappointed.

The latest God of War entry focuses on Kratos and his son Atreus shortly after the death of Kratos' wife. This game allows you to control Kratos and give commands to his son to access locations that Kratos can't reach, fire arrows, and summon elemental creatures to attack enemies. While the previous GOW games centered around Kratos' conflict with Greek mythological figures, this new entry finds our protagonists mixing it up with gods and creatures related to Norse mythology. Although Kratos mainly uses an axe as his new weapon, the game still feels like a GOW experience!

God of war v looks and plays great but can get a little repititious at times. The lack of epic boss battles is a downside as they are a staple of the series. The relationship between kratos and his son is engaging. Great game but not perfect.

OF course, my thought also was, awww man, a change to my all time favorite franchise, but so far, it has been great. Visuals, stunning, action, still brutal, 30 minutes in, 2 boss fights (1 not really but felt like it) and still feel like a bad mofo when I am in charge of Kratos. Of course, there is the child element which is very welcoming and seeing the struggle of Father and son.....this game is exciting so far! Can't wait to keep playing. No complaints at all other than camera angles from my nephew, but I have adapted to it quick.

God of War is a breath of fresh air from a series that has gotten to caught up in the same tired design. Combat is completely revamped and has a much deeper feel to it. With a wide array of difficulties to choose from you can tailor how hard you want to make the game. the difficulties range from face roll enemies easily to downright brutal to the point where you may get stuck for an hour+ in some places. The story is grand and never really gets dull in any particular area. Even while walking around you will get a lot of dialogue between the father and son so things will never be too quiet.

Its weird, over always like God of War but the character of Kratos was always pretty one note, but they really turned things around. This game has very good combat, just as on the past but it very different. It's closer, heavier and feels nice and meaty. Your attacks weight and enemies feel more like threats, even the weaker ones. Outside of combat, the story is very interesting and kept me engrossed the whole way through. This is one game I wish had DLC, because I just want to play more of it.

A More Mature God Of War

It's been about 8 years since a mainline God Of War game (God Of War 3 on PS3, 2010), and it appears the hiatus has done the series some good. With this latest entry, entitled simply "God Of War", the story takes a step in a more mature direction-showing Kratos in a fatherly role, regretting his violent past and the repercussions it entailed. With the Greek gods vanquished, Kratos now reluctantly sets his sights upon the pantheon of Norse mythology. The perspective has shifted into an over-the-shoulder view, which makes for slower, albeit more visceral combat. For a good portion of the game, you'll be using a frost axe instead of Kratos' signature Chains Of Olympus. Throughout your journey, you'll be accompanied by Kratos' son, Atreus...but he's much more of a boon than a hinderance; rarely will he need to be babysat. Instead, he has no life bar and acts mostly to assist in stunning enemies with his bow attacks (although he will quickly become more lethal). Your weapons AND armor can be upgraded as well, which is a new feature to the God Of War franchise. In fact, your armor and attachments greatly influence your stats; different builds may be needed to take on the more difficult foes. The graphics are quite nice on either the standard or pro PS4, though only the latter is capable of 4k and a consistent clip of 60 fps. Still, it's totally playable on the standard PS4 at a respectable 30 fps. If there's one gripe I have, it's that you really don't feel like much is accomplished story-wise by the end of the game-it's clearly a setup for a new trilogy. That said, I'd welcome a couple more entries into the God Of War series using this new perspective and gameplay style. Definitely recommended for action aficionados!

The game director in an interview said there would not be quicktime events https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/15/15811678/god-of-war-ps4-director-no-qtes-quick-time-events but there are. Yes is a GOW standard but I haet false advertising. The timed ax throwing puzzles in portions are so frustrating that they made me want to throw my controller through the tv. The mini boss battles start to get repetitive. I guess if you really love this franchise, you may like this game. I don't mind a challenge, but I want to have fun as well and not just be annoyed at the money wasted buying a game.

I love the new playstyle and camera angle. One of my biggest issues with the old God of war games was how it was more of a button masher with occasional cutscene prompts. This game requires more coordination and the ability to read and predict enemy movements. At higher difficulties you will die a few times. I tried starting the game the first time at the hardest difficulty and couldn't even get past the first enemies. Definitely worth the purchase.
