I love the special effects! The story line was good. Although i felt it could have explained a few things a little better. But it was good. The acting was good as well. It's a pretty good buy if you're more in it for the special effects and action.

For what this movie was it was pretty good but not great, but it kept me entertained with all of the action. The storytelling could of been a little better in this movie, but overall I enjoyed this movie for what it was.

I quite enjoyed the adventure of Gods. There is good chemistry between the cast members. Some scenes can be a bit confusing unless you know some of the Egyptian gods and pay attention to small details in the dialogue. Overall very entertaining.

Gods of Egypt (GoE) 3D is an entertaining movie and well-worth watching if the viewer understands that the fiction part of science fiction is really emphasized. The plot is loosely based on Egyptian mythology and a typical good vs. evil story. I agree with critics who mentioned that the plot is predictable. I was forewarned so that aspect did not bother me. The filming of GoE heavily relies on computer animation and computer generated graphics which makes the 3D effects nice to look at. Don’t get me wrong with respect to computer animation: the actors are still real people. Much of the 3D effect is depth perception rather than objects jumping out at you. With bonus dollars and points I paid $15.99 for the Blu Ray 3D DVD set.

This was a actually a pretty epic movie. Probably more like an 8 or 9 out of 10, but i have to level out some of the reviews that really dogged this movie. You have to go into this knowing it is a fantasy movie. And it's pretty darn good. Great story, and satisfying ending. Do yourself a favor and don't pay attention to the overall score, just go and see it. There were some unexpected twist and turns. The Director definitely didn't cut any corners. There was some pretty good CGI, as well as some OK CGI. Overall though it was good. Hopefully there will be a sequel. Costumes and acting were good, I know people complained about whitewashing, but really who cares. I know i don't make enough money to care

This review is more about giving kudos to Best Buy's Steelbook Edition, than praise for the movie itself or the effort that Summit put into it. As for this retailer exclusive, Best Buy did a great job all around: genuine "Steelbook" case, not the cheaper made Metalpaks that some releases get; an all inclusive release that isn't missing anything from the standard release and even includes the 3D BD; all without charging a premium for the case, which is always a deal breaker for us, unless the film is a particular favorite. BB still needs to work on their packaging, but ours arrived without any dents or broken latches this time. As for the movie, think Clash/Wrath of the Titans, but based on Egyptian Myth, rather than Greek. Very loosely based, I'm sure. It's a fantasy world, from a time before time, and all that, that's not likely to have too much in common with accredited lore. But, unlike Greek Myth, for people who think there's more to ancient writings than utter fiction and superstitious nonsense, who think that a people who could build the pyramids could hardly be as naïve and unenlightened as some have to believe to explain away their own narrow notions of life, yet then preach that it must have been aliens from another world... For people who don't think science is the answer to everything, Egyptian lore has some curious parallels to written history. While this film presents those in typical Hollywood Blockbuster fashion, with little depth or dignity, it has it's intellectually intriguing moments, and can be just as fun and visually arresting as what we've seen of films from Greek lore in recent years. But, again, the 5 stars are for BB's exclusive edition, not the film.

Bought this for $3.99. I wasn’t expecting much, but was intrigued by the Egyptian mythology. Don’t know if I learned anything here but saw some decent action sequences. Story is obviously fiction and it can feel pretty Hollywood. Picture and audio quality are both super. Probably not going to get the amount of likes as Snyder’s ‘300’ did. Still worthwhile watching.

Character development: He's the good guy because he's the hot looking good guy. And the other one is the bad guy because he's the hotter poor loser! That's the prime conflict momentum of plot, folks! But there are celebrity Gods of Egypt and CGI vistas and breathtaking beasts galore! This is the one you use to show off your home theater system when relatives and friends drop in. The kids jaws will drop over the constant bombardment of beautiful creatures and your buds will be in awe wondering how a costume of two threads and six cheerios manage to keep those mythical babes' modest. Hint: Its all in the camera angles...

Taken on its own terms, Gods of Egypt is a pretty terrible movie. The effects are sub-Syfy Channel level, the acting is "EVERYONE YELLING ALL THE TIME" and everything about the film is silly. Like, "gods are 12 foot tall and can turn into robots who bleed gold" silly. The fight between Set (Gerard Butler) and Ra (Geoffrey Rush) must be seen to be believed - if you saw it by itself online, you'd think it was a joke. Fortunately, Gods of Egypt seems to be unaware of how terrible it is, which makes it worth watching, jaw agape. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wonder why somebody thought this movie was a good idea.

One night with nothing else on I stumbled across this movie on HBO. i didn't think much of it at the time primarily because it wasn't presented in "letterbox" format. I kept it in the back of my mind though because of the effects. When I saw it on the shelf, I decided to go for it. I was very pleasantly surprised. Great effects, a wonderful score & an overall immersive experience. I saw this in normal blu-ray; it might even be better in 3-D ! Certainly better than how the critics reacted-it deserved a better box-office result. It's certainly worth a look !

This is a visually stunning, fun romp, set in an age long BEFORE the Pharaohs. And this is what the critics forget in their rush to crowd on the PC bandwagon and complain about the "whitewash" in selecting the cast. Ignore that, and enjoy the spectacle. It does vaguely follow some of the Egyptian myths, and remember, even those stories say that the gods came from "outside" and we're not of the Egyptian people.

Even though this movie didn't do well at the box office, I think it's a great feature to add to your movie collection. Especially in 3D. When the gods transform into shiny flying creatures, it looks AWESOME! It has some fighting scenes but because the gods bleed gold blood instead of red, it doesn't look so gory. There is no nudity except for a scene where a man and a woman are in bed but are covered in sheets and there is no vulgar language at all. I would say it is a pretty good family friendly movie. I give this move 2 thumbs up.a

Today we see so many movies that have computer generated special effects that it sometimes becomes a distraction or even mind dulling. However in GODS of EGYPT I actually felt it worked to the film's benefit. Plus, the cast was good and the story moved along at a nice clip and a viewer had an interest in the outcome of the main characters. Sure, this is not THE TEN COMMANDMENTS from Cecil B. DeMille but it is still an enjoyable movie to watch if taken in the right spirit.

    Bought for 3d and DTS:X

It's difficult finding 3d movies that also have DTS:X or Atmos soundtracks as some studios seem to be reserving these audio formats for their 4K UltraHD versions only. So I jumped on this as the price was right. Overall, I have found that DTS:X seems to be less immersive than Atmos, or at least the mixes on the handful of DTS:X movies I have seem that way. They just don't seem to make use of the height channels very much. The movie is fun to watch in 3d.

Gods of Egypt is one of my favorite movies, thou fiction, that makes you look back how it was in Moses days. This movie is not that far fetch from what really happened. It's just so entertaining to watch, over and over. I wasn't so fawn of this movie at first cuz of the bad reviews it had. But after seeing it, I was mad I hadn't watched it sooner. The same goes with, " The Founder", that is a.good movie too, but that's another review.

This movie, not surprisingly, got some bad reviews upon release. It’s not for the critics, but it’s good fun if you like big dumb action movies. You can always count on Gerard butler to shine in these types of movies. Also the Steelbook version of the physical release is excellent, one of my favorites in my collection.
