A Godzilla movie for the Godzilla fans

This is a movie for the Godzilla fans. Superb monster scenes with a fantastic score that uses the original Godzilla themes from the Japanese movies. The film looked beautiful in 4K and the sound mixing is epic. Michael Dougherty shows a lot of passion and respect for the property. It felt as if I was watching a Toho Japanese Godzilla film but on a higher budget. Even the humans, from the main scientists trying to help Godzilla to the tortured villain, felt like their motivations and actions were ripped from the older movies. If you felt like Godzilla was a co-star in his first movie than you will love this one because your favorite monsters are now front and center – both on the screen and in plot discussion. No cutaways from news broadcasts or doors closing – here you see the epic monster action as the humans deal with their plights as well. Each creature was also shown as the natural disasters that they truly are. I especially loved Mothra and the (2) female “scientists” who know so much about her *watch the movie I don't want to spoil it*. I would encourage anyone who loved Godzilla movies as a child or just for the fun of it to check this one out with your family and friends. Bring on Kong vs. Godzilla - Long Live the King!

Let’s start with the movie, fantastic! Critics did not like too much Godzilla or the human plot, ask any Godzilla fan, this was amazing! Loved everything about this movie! Visually stunning! You can see so much more at home with fine details! I’ve watched this movie about 5 times already! Audio quality is wow! Way more thunderous than I remember. If you have a great system at home, your neighbors will dislike you for this sounding so amazing! Everything is amazing! Oh and Best Buy! Props to Best Buy the Steelbook 4K is beautiful!!! It’s has Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra on it! I said this movie was visually stunning, so is the steelbook from Best Buy! Thank you Best Buy!

    SteelBook art is very cool!

First, the SteelBook: It is worth the wait. Very cool cover art: Godzilla on the front, King Ghidorah on the back, Mothra and Rodan on the inside covers. The SteelBook itself is nice and tight and well-produced. Next, Best Buy: The pricing is reasonable but the shipping was slow. Not terribly problematic for me because I saw the movie in IMAX, 3D, 4D (Cinema16 in Holtsville), and plain vanilla. Overall, a good shopping experience. The movie: Will I'm a fairly fanatical Godzilla geek, and I think the kaiju look great, I think the story is weak. Personally, I think the idea of communication/control device (Orca) is weak and well, lame (I'm gonna catch flack for that I bet). The "environmental terrorist" angle was promising, but I don't know, maybe it's just me, I shook my head in disappointment when the Orca was used and explained. The rest of the movie was pretty good, and I loved the nods to the old Toho Godzilla movies, but the very end, when Godzilla is standing with the other kaiju surrounding him, and when Rodan bows down and spreads his wings like a cape, was TOO literal. It to me was like saying to a viewer "in case you still don't get it, Godzilla is King of the Monsters." D'uh. The other cool thing about having the DVD is we can now pause it to find the Easter eggs we missed in the theaters. If you're careful, you'll fund quite a few! And please, _DON'T RUIN GODZILLA vs. KONG!_

This is a fantastic movie. I absolutely loved it. I would recommend Godzilla: King of the Monsters to anyone that is even curious of weather they think that they might like it or not. You will. It is now one of my favorite movies of all time. Yes I liked it that much. And the steelbook book copy is the one to own. Go out and buy this movie. You will want to watch it many times over and over again.

Usually when a second move comes out it’s not as good as the first one. This is way better! More of everything, monsters, action, twists the to story of movie. It was great how a lot of it was similar to the original but the things that altered were done perfectly to fit great with this movie! This is one I could 20 times and still want to watch it more! Best Godzilla movie I have seen yet!

This movie is the best modern Godzilla movie. It strengthened the characters and filled in so much background on the "Titans" and "Monarch's" history. The 3D is excellent and adds tremendously to the experience.

I'm glad we are still getting a few of the 3D movies like this one released in 3D Blu-ray for home viewing in 3D. A good action movie is even better in 3D.

Great SiFi film with excellent CGI effects. Godzilla has always been the King of the Monsters and this movie proved it. Also a excellent cast. Many actors that you will recognize. I recommend this film. Especially if you never saw the original Godzilla films. This is a new classic!

I love seeing a new take on these classic Toho monsters I grew up with. Great special effects. It's a fun ride all the way through. Alot of references to the older films that the average film goer might miss but to me it made the film all that much better.

Not my favorite movie but it has great 3D, and I can actually but it without ordering from another country. Great audio too. If you're a fan and have a 3D setup nothing else compares.

Even if you're hesitant after Godzilla's debut film, where he spent seven minutes on-screen, (in my opinion, it seemed longer than that, but that was based on those 7 minutes being rather jaw-dropping,) GKOM should satisfy, redeem, and get you excited for next year's Godzilla vs King Kong. With Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra, there's plenty of Kaiju (or Titans,) action, featuring any mix of them, whether squaring off with each other or one or more trading attacks with the military. And that's where GKOM succeeds: its spectacle is truly second to none- monsters fight, military gets squished, and cities don't fare much better. Even with new protagonists on the human side of things, there's a better human element, with the actors seemingly just given better roles- the roles themselves, along with the storytelling has seemed to evolve from the original, as well. With that said, the characters and plot still aren't nearly the perfect creatures Godzilla and friends are. Where director Michael Dougherty has progressed from anthology fare (Trick R Treat,) to standard feature length, one and a half hour film, (Krampus,) with longer running times, it often feels like there's a bit of padding, largely in the characters themselves, often going too far onto the "show" end of, "show, don't tell," storytelling. Occasionally, telling the audience is necessary, so as to not allow their mind to wander during the story, particularly with extraneous information. All in all, GKOM is a much better film in all aspects than its predecessor, and will certainly have you ready for Godzilla vs King Kong. What it may ALSO have you ready for, upon multiple viewings, is to hit the fast forward button to move past several scenes of exposition to get you to where it excels: sweet, sweet Titan destruction.

    Godzilla 2 3D Review

As a movie, its not the greatest, and its not as well choreographed as Pacific Rim on the pop corn fluff side. But, it still does have its moments when showing off the monsters and scale. However, in terms of the audio and video, this is really a joy, especially the audio. I am specifically referring to the DTS HD track here (not the Atmos) that plays with the 3D disc. You will know within the start of the movie that your Subwoofer is present. The score does get lost a little bit when some of the action kicks in, but I thought it was for the best since the score wasn't very memorable for me. The 3D while not as impressive as Avatar (still my gold standard), does have scenes where you do see the depth in an awe inducing way (when the monsters are shown fighting above/to the side with the people still in frame). Those are quiet nice. Overall, its very depth oriented than scenes where things come out of the screen. However, good thing about the transfer, at leas from what I could see, was it did not contain any 3D related artifacts. Lots of people complain that the movie is dark, but I thought things were quiet visible. On the same note, people complained upon release that they couldn't make out what was going on due to the darkness. Having seen the movie now, I think that is an exaggeration. So 3D good and technically well done, but not on an epic level. Audio, definitely on an epic level with the DTS HD track (can't comment yet on Atmos since I only saw the 3D version still)! One of my favorite from now on.

Right from being a child and watching the Hana Barbera cartoons and stomping round the house pretending to be Godzilla, Baffled by many of the reviews saying to much Kaiju action or poor director etc. This film was clearly made by a dedicated and passionate Godzilla fan. The sheer amount of Easter eggs and fan service which had me grinning is incredible, (yet knowledgeable Godzilla fans on RT seem to not have noticed any of this) and talk about the likes of fire breathing dragons >
