One of the best Bond films

    Posted
    CrimsonKing42

This is my favorite Bond film after Goldfinger. Aside from having some of the most memorable characters in the series and some of the best action sequences (including an extraordinary tank chase and a great final fight), it actually has an interesting plot. This is the first Bond movie made after the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union. Bond is assigned to find out about the theft of an old Soviet weapons sattelite called Goldeneye that can fire an electro-magnetic pulse that will knock out all of an area's circuitry. Bond's nemesis in this film is Alec Trevelyan, the ex-006, who was presumed dead and has returned to steal the Goldeneye with a desire for revenge against the British governement. Pierce Brosnan plays James Bond for the first time in this film, and he fits into the role like a glove. He's more of a suave gentleman spy than an action hero, but he still pulls both of Bond's sides nicely. It is great to see the verbal showdowns between him and Trevelyan as opposing sides of the same ideology. Goldeneye is the perfect balance of plot and action for a Bond film. If you haven't seen it, get it. If you have seen it but don't own it, get it. You can't go wrong with this one.

    Pierce Brosnan's first Bond movie

GOLDENEYE is Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond movie after replacing Timothy Dalton who chose not to return to the Bond movies. Brosnan is pretty good in the 007 role, but not as good as Sean Connery and Roger Moore. The biggest negative of the movie is the plot about turncoat MI6 agents and White Russians which is mediocre even for a Bond movie. Another negative is the annoying Bond Villain played by Alan Cumming who gets his deserved fate at the end of the movie----I wanted him to be killed off much earlier in the movie. Sean Bean (GAME OF THRONES) is good at playing the Bond Villain and Bond Girl/Villian Famke Janssen is also impressive. Perhaps the highlight of the movie is Brosnan driving the Russian tank in one of the best car chase scenes ever. Joe Don Baker is good at providing comic relief as Bond's CIA ally. GOLDENEYE is the second best Pierce Brosnan Bond movie with TOMORROW NEVER DIES being the best.

One of my favorite 007 films of all time. It has all the right feels. The first and probably best Pierce Brosnan as 007 films there is compared to the later ones, which became far goofier. A dark tale filled with a twist betrayal. Plenty of great action throughout with an excellent cast of actors. An excellent transfer to bluray compared to the original. A definite must buy for those that haven't seen it or are a collector of 007 films. However if you're looking for every film and not as 'selective' on your favorite ones from each era, go with the ultimate collection.

In response to the previous reviewer, yes, 12 TV ads, and 2 theatrical trailers are included. It also includes a "World of James Bond" special hosted by Elizabeth Hurley (which I recall aired on FOX the week this film was released), 2 or 3 behind the scenes documentaries, director's commentary, and the Tina Turner music video. Definitely a keeper for any James Bond fan. "Goldeneye" is probably my favorite Bond film of all time.

Pierce Brosnan is one of my favorites to portray James Bond, the womanizing British Spy also known as 007. Haven't seen this movie in years so it was great to revisit. The cover art is just ok but it was re-releases with all Bond titles with similar art. It not only had the Blu-ray but also has digital copy & $7.00 towards the newest Bond movie, Spectre. Overall it's a good deal.

Before Daniel Craig came along and the filmmakers tried to make Bond more like Bourne, Bond films were still fun. And GOLDENEYE was a return of sorts to the old kinds of Bond films. Thoroughly entertaining, with Pierce Brosnan, in his first time out as James Bond, having a lot of fun with the role. Oh, and there's Famke Janssen as the villain. Wonderful stuff.

I know some people won't agree but Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are my favorite Bonds. Mostly because the stories, action, stunts and special effects are so much better than the older films and to me, that makes the stories more believable. Seeing these films on Blu-ray are like heaven for me, if you love them too, then grab them on Blu-ray, you won't regret it.

For the Bond fans out there. Pierce Bronson finally gets his shot playing the famous British secret agent. It has all the ingredients of a Bond movie; fast cars, hot women, exotic locales, and of course, villains. Also, Judi Dench brings in a fresh take on "M". The blu ray format brings out the sound and picture clarity you will definitely appreciate.

I loved Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Thought he was an excellent replacement for Sean Connery and Roger Moore. I'm not a fan of the Daniel Craig Bond films. Loved the special effects in this movie and the implications of electric impulses wiping out our power and communications in current times should be taken more seriously!!! Excellent Bond film!

James Bond teams up with the lone survivor of a destroyed Russian research center to stop the hijacking of a nuclear space weapon by a fellow agent believed to be dead. Pierce Brosnan's 1st Bond movie - Fantastic Famke Jansen as Xenia Onatopp - OMG she is SO Great being BAD. Loved the line "Do you destroy every vehicle you use?" "Standard Operating Procedure"

This was my first Bond film that I ever saw as a kid, sometime in the 90s, so it has a special place in my heart. However it's still a great Bond compared to the likes of Casino Royale, Dr. No, Goldfinger, etc. it's in he upper crust of a highly varied spectrum of quality. Brosnan is very charming and suave. Overall good action flick.

Goldeneye is definitely one of my favorites in the James Bond series. As with any Bond movie, it's entertaining. There's just the right amount of action, sensuality, witticism, intrigue, and humor. An all around great movie, and Pierce Brosnan is excellent as 007. No question you should buy this movie. You won't be disappointed.

This is the first Bond film I saw in theaters and it blew me away. I'm so glad there's finally a blu ray. Though the film is a bit dated, the picture and audio quality is pretty good. The features though low in video quality, are informative and great to have as Bond fan.

Finally released as a single Bluray! Picture quality is good but not the best. It is a huge improvement over an upscaled DVD, but it is the weakest of all Bond Films based on picture quality. Film is exceptional like it has always been. Fans of the films should pick up this release. Recommended.

Following the unwatchable Licence to Kill, we had a six year wait which, thankfully, proved to be worth it with Pierce Brosnan making a fabulous debut as 007. He's matched by terrific villains (Sean Bean & Famke Janssen), a sexy ally (Izabella Scorupco), and a new superior (a perfect Dame Judi Dench).

Goldeneye revitalized the Bond Franchise. This is Pierce Brosnan's first movie as bond and he doesn't disapoint. The supporting cast includes Sean Bean. Famke Janson and Judi Dench as M Good action sequences and a decent story. Definately worth checking out

I have always had a soft spot for this Bond movie. It was the first I ever saw in the theater. Watching it again on blu-ray, it holds up overall. Fun action, good humor. The picture quality is average, unfortunately, while the sound quality is good.

For all its over the top effects, Goldeneye is quintessential Bond if for no other reason than it spawned one of the best Nintendo 64 games ever. It is nice to have this on Blu-ray and at such a great price it is an easy addition to the collection.

This is the first Bond film for Pierce Brosnan. Besides, Sean Connery, Brosnan portrayed Ian Fleming's character of James Bond extremely well. This Bond film is a perfect film to get people into the Bond series with great villians and action.
