Epic idea from Google and my favorite so far. Originally I thought these were bluetooth like all the other adapters out there and upon reviewing and seething that they were wifi, i bought 6 of them for $150 with the Black Friday Deal. I want to make this completely evident and clear for those of you out there who havent messed with wireless audio before, bluetooth audio aPTX or not, compresses and kills audio quality, There is no way around it 99% of the time and within reasonable budgets. Wifi speakers have essentially unlimited bandwidth and will not cut off your highs and lows. These little guys sound great and will stream all day without intervention from you. At the time I bought them they didnt have multiroom support, but that was fixed around Dec 15th. Setup/grouping of the speakers is incredibly easy, and it lets you adjust the audio delay of the individual CCAudios in the group to sync the music. Pros: 3.5mm or Optical Multiroom Price Saving old hifi recievers or speakers Stream from mobile/pc Doesnt kill your phones battery, your phone controls it, but after you start playing something you can turn your phone completely off to show it isnt using your phone (you dont have to). Wont blast your ringtone/text message tone over your speakers even if you don't have speakers already, you can get nice speakers for less than the price of a sonos play 1 or goto the thrift store and get some JBL/Altec Landsing speakers and pay 1/5 less overall! Guest mode to let people queue up music without you having to give your wifi password to everyone Cons: Doesnt like playing music stored on your phone, but can be fixed with a 3rd party app or by uploading your music to your google play library. up to 50,000 songs. No surround sound support yet (I wouldn't be surprised to see these pairing with your chromecasts in the future for wireless surround sound.)

I've been using Chromecast for a while to stream Google Play Music so I was excited to try out the Chromecast Audio with my current stereo system. I now have four of these units throughout the house and have completely forgotten about my portable Bluetooth speakers. The Chromecast Audio has given new life to a couple of my 10 - 15 year old stereo units that were gathering dust in the basement. Even better was the recent update that allows group connections allowing me to stream to multiple speakers around the house at the same time. For a little over a hundred dollars I was able to buy four of these units and have the same functionality as the lowest teired Sonos 2 speaker bundle that cost over twice as much. If you love music, have a streaming music account, and 1 or more speaker units you should definitely give this a try.

Sure, I could probably think of some ways to improve this device and I'm sure Google will, but for the price and convenience, this is an awesome device. I prefer the other media sticks to the full Chromecast, but for audio only, this is the best. Have speakers? You have a wireless speaker system. Better than blueray just because of the sound quality and distance limits. Even better that the device keeps playing even if you receive a phone call or listen to other sources on your phone. I even went to the store with my phone and the device kept playing. Add to that the ability to group multiple Chromecast audio devices to create a whole-home system and it can't be beat. I bought 2 for my primary home and I'm gonna get one for my cabin when the Internet is installed. 5 stars.

Google home products have an amazing potential to be the only home assistant system you'll ever need. Let's face it, they are backed by Google. ChromeCast Audio specifically though is great for music. Clean, crisp audio that syncs with most of the major music streaming sites. For the price, there is no reason not to try it. A minor annoyance however, is if you are attempting to have a complete smart home setup based on Googles products. It feels as though ChromeCast for the television should play nice with ChromeCast Audio. They do not. I'm certain it's a highly complex problem that will require a lot of mental power to solve and that's okay. As an end user though, the lack compatibility between these two Google products is rather hard to ignore.

Extremely easy to set up; setup really pretty automated. Needed to set it up with 3 Chromecast-Audios. The group feature initially seemed like it was being a bit flaky but I started from scratch and the group feature is working flawlessly. Much more reliable than Airfoil/Airport/Apple streaming that we used to us. Highly recommended and the price is great. Check carefully about the offers that Google makes when you buy one of these...the advertising at one Best Buy store and at bestbuy.com was not accurate about distinguishing between the "Chromecast" as opposed to "Chromecast-Audio." The deals ARE different!

Great unit for price. Was looking for simple, reasonably high quality method to play music and this works very well. Though someone mentioned difficulty setting up, I had absolutely no problems and had it running in about 5 minutes out of the box (just follow the simple instructions and anyone can do it!). My only negative comment is it runs a little warmer than I expected, but not a problem and note hot to the touch.

Don't waste your money on Sonos or other more expensive systems. Just get a chromecast for each room. Plug it into some speakers. Then you're good to go for much less money. Wifi setup on these has been super easy on all of my phones. Audio quality is good. Digital oiutput is available if you think you have a better DAC. So many apps support this. I think only the most trapped apple consumers (only have iPhone and only use Apple Music) will have problems using it.

I was wary of how useful the Chromecast Audio would be, considering how many other ways there are to transit music wirelessly in the home, but I am so pleased with this. What I really needed was a way to stream music through my beloved (but older) Marantz 2-channel receiver, which I use as my main audio system. I own a Roku 3, which only sends audio by HDMI, and I run a 1/8" jack from the TV to the receiver for movie sound. But if I want to listen to music, I need to keep the TV on, which is lame. I bought a Bluetooth speaker with an aux out, which I thought would be fine, except it requires a charger and Bluetooth audio is low quality and experiences annoying stuttering. The Chromecast solves all of my problems. It connects via wi-fi, offers high-quality sound, can be plugged into my receiver's switched outlet (only draws power when I turn the receiver on), and works so easily with the phone that it's by far the most convenient option. I've been streaming music from Spotify and Google Play, and it's so great. I'm really looking forward to getting a couple more and linking them for whole-house streaming. We've got lots of standalone speakers and small component systems that will now have new life because of Chromecast. Who needs a new home theater system with multi-zone speakers and all that junk?

This thing is amazing. I set it up at my work, a gymnastics center, and now I'm just sitting here turning on music to practice to from across the room. Any volume adjustments or if a bad song comes on I just pull out my phone from my pocket real quick. It's a breeze to set up and sounds amazing. I just leave it set up in back of the stereo and have had 0 problems.

I've installed two Chromecast Audio devices in my home now so I could test and decide if this is the direction to go. So far, its working great. Simple to install and setup and the Audio quality is awesome. I wish they'd allow you to pass audio from Chromecast Video to these speakers, that would be amazing. Recommend to anyone who can't afford SONOS.

Chromecast audio is amazing and multi-room setup is a huge plus. Just like with video, you cast sound to the device. At the same time, you can create a group of devices that you can stream music to at once. So, instead of having very long cables and mixers, sound comes out of multiple speakers. It all works well without lags and without problems. The sound quality is also good and supports FLAC. If you like using lossless, it supports FLAC output directly. The only pain is the software setup. If you use google play, spotify then I suppose it is straightforward to just set it up. However, if you want to cast your own flac, it's a little tricky. It requires BubbleUPNP and a UPNP server. I have a hodgepodge of UNP server from Plex and BubbleUNP working for me to cast my FLAC files. For most using Google play, I think the standard stuff would suffice. Overall, if you listen to a lot of music, this is a good product. I have uPNP music server with FLAC files to listen to. Other people might prefer Spotify and Google Music. It solves a unique problem. On the other hand, this is not a necessary product. I guess I could listen to music on my headphones and walk around with them with music everywhere. But, if you spend $1000s of dollars on audio equipment and would like all sort of stereo configurations, this will be a very useful tool for a low cost that works easily. You could use raspberry pis and other complex products but there are just too many things to do and configure. Setting up the Chromecast Audio takes 2 minutes.

Was looking for an inexpensive way to stream music through my whole house audio system in a way that allowed me to change the source from my phone. Perfect solution with a simple audio jack to analog audio output adapter. $50 total with access to all of my music, Spotify, Pandora, etc. It’s not HD quality, but with decent speakers it’s pretty good sound. Just what i was looking for.

I listen to a lot of internet radio, but I didn't have any way to listen to it through the old stereo system in my bedroom. This was just the ticket. I swapped out the connector cord that comes with the device for one with red & white RCA plugs on one end, plugged it in to one of the unused sets on the back of my receiver, downloaded the app, and away we went. Set up was easy and it works well. All for $30 (I got it on sale).

I ordered this with no real expectation that it would sound anything more than mediocre. The real surprise came when I plugged it into an integrated amplifier. Setup was a no brainer...about 60 seconds. The device produced surprisingly rich, full range sound from a premium streaming service. This is not to be taken as an audiophile quality device, but it is good...real good.

This was my first experience with the Google chromecast audio device. I didn't have any issues hooking up and playing music on the initial setup. As others have mentioned, it sometimes loses connection or is slow to strart up. The overall sound quality is excellent. It is expecially good when using older A/V receivers. I would recommend this product.

For $35 price Gogle Chromecast audio device is a great product. Pros: Easily connect and listen to your music from any andriod phone. Dont know if Iphone works. Use default play music app from andriod to stream free music from various choice of channels and hits. Gives you free space to upload upto 50,000 songs, so that you can listen them at home or on th go. Cons: Only supported bu andriod. No Windows phone support. Iphone not tested. You wont be able to play music from your phone directly, i mean the songs that you have saved to your phone or sd card. You must upload them all to google music first to start playing over the air. This device needs some technical expertise to operate

This purchase was a little bit of an experiment. I needed some tech to be able to stream digital audio to my older but much beloved Marantz that has a max tech of optical audio in. Was able, using the mini-toslink output from this device, to stream Tidal in HiFi and sounds great even in 5.1 Thirty bucks for all that, what's not to like....

Sound quality exceeds Bluetooth limitations. Not quite CD quality but very good. Only downside is device needs constant power. Get around this with a power bank for portability. Easy set up. This is my second Chromecast Audio. One is connected to my main stereo system Other is used for portable speakers and a powered system in another room.

What an awesome little device this is! I bought it for my girlfriend, who has an older stereo that she would plug her phone into via the aux input to play her music. With this thing, she can connect her phone wirelessly and it sounds just as good as when plugged in. A great addition to any older stereo!
