Plays music or anything audio anywhere on almost any device with a aux plug. Only thing I don't like is it needs a power outlet. It's not portable.

It's nice to be able to set this up and walk around the house with my phone in my pocket and be able to control the music! Even works with the weak wifi signal outside in the back yard. Only thing is it needs to be plugged into wall, so using it with portable speakers is a problem unless there's an outlet near by or a long 3.5mm cable.

Easy to pair and works well with WiFi. It has Toslink output for best sound quality transfer to a Bose home theater soundbars. Only gripe is there's no Bluetooth SBC so that I can use a portable charger as its power source and play music via bluetooth to a portable DAC then to car speaker's AUX input. The portable WiFi hotspot workaround is iffy at best.

As the the regular Chromecast for video, the Chromecast Audio allow you to stream from portable devices and computers but only the audio portion. Unlike the video version which provides HDMI output, the audio Chromecast provides a single output connector that can be used with a Stereo 3.5 mm analog audio cable (provided) or with optional cables that can provide digital optical output or RCA output. I am using the Chromecast Audio with digital optical (toslink) output. Setup is extremely easy, very similar to the Chromecast Video setup. Similarly to the the regular video Chromecast this device saves your phone or tablet's battery since this device takes over and the audio source streams directly to the Chromecast while your portable device is used only as a remote control.

If you want to have a wifi speaker instead to connect it to bluetooth is fine...the only thing is that you must plug the cromcast in an electrical outlet . . is not rechargeable with a battery. . so the speaker won't be portable ! That's why the 4 stars !

The audio Chromecast is in a class by itself. I'd give it 5 stars except for the fact it constantly consumes power if you don't go to the trouble to turn it off when not in use. One option--useful for some people but not all--is to plug the CC's USB power cable into a nearby device with a USB port that you can turn on when you want to use your CC. This is awkward at best. Otherwise you can plug it into a power strip with an on-off switch and use the switch. This is also a non-solution for many people. I'd guess that 99% of users leave their CC plugged in and consuming power most of the time. On the other hand there's a lot of good things I can say about the Google audio Chromecast: I have not yet used all the functions but what I have used has been without problems or need for a call to customer service. Works right out of the box, does what it says and does it well. Simple but useful for those who want their music portable and easily played through wifi. No wires to worry over (trip over). Especially for non-Bluetooth speakers this is a valuable tool. Using wifi, it makes BT unnecessary for making your audio truly portable around the house. With a bluetooth portable speaker you get much of the same functionality, but the big difference is that BT drains your phone/tablet battery faster than projecting the sound through your wifi network. Also there are no distance limits between source and receiver over wifi as there are with BT. You can be on the other end of the house in another room and control the Chromecast as easily as a BT which can only reach a little over 30 ft. Stereo is readily casted with CC but most BT speakers are strictly monaural. There are no doubt other advantages that audio CC offer but the above reasons are enough for me. These babies go on sale fairly often so wait until you can pick one up for $25, or if you're in a hurry the most you'll have to fork over is $35.
