    Not what I wanted

    I traded in my Apple watch for a 50$ gift card (rip off, I know) and decided to get a streaming device because my Xbox one S I gave to my sister who was going overseas. The Chromecast fit the bill, and it would "apparently" work with my Google home and note 8. Well I didn't realize the full extent of how much you need your phone or Google home. I had difficulty trying to set up the Chromecast right out of the box, and I'm pretty tech savvy. I had to call the customer support line and they had me reset the Google home app on my cellphone as well as the Chromecast because it failed to work properly. I did it right, but there was a "malfunction". It has never worked with my Google home for some reason. It also will NOT turn the TV on or off like its supposed to. It always says "cannot find TV named "bedroom TV". I really like that feature too. The cellphone streaming doesn't effect my battery on my phone at all, but there is always an issue every time I go to use the Chromecast. It will take a long time for the Chromecast to show streaming capability on my phone. Most of the time I have to unplug it and plug it back in. Despite it not effecting battery, I think it's a stupid design to have to use your phone. You have to make sure you're on the same wifi, have your phone with you, and stop what you may be doing on your phone to control anything. What if someone else was watching your TV? Now they need your phone, or to sync theirs? So stupid. I never use this thing. It's just too basic in features, yet too complicated to get to work properly. I can assure you, it's not the operator lol.

    I have two of these- the first model and then the newest model. I stopped using the first as every time I tried to cast from my Hulu app to would suddenly disconnect after 20 min and I was forced to reset it every 20 min. Got so frustrated threw it in a drawer. Tried again with this new model a few month ago- and surprise it happens again. Every time I try to cast from my app on my iPhone- it disconnects every 20 min and my Google Home app is useless as it can’t find the Cast and the best trouble shooting it can ever say is check my internet connection- which is fine. So again the only option is to get up and unplug and replug the device. Not worth the aggravation it causes. So disappointed in Google.

    My main concern is that it's not intuitive enough to the point where you solely rely on voice commands and it's also linked only to those who own or use a smartphone device linked wirh a Google account, you can get Roku for about the same price for the standard set plus 30 days of free cable on sling, for a single user that uses Google products as their main source of interaction I will say that it works very well since the Google commands are very efficient for the most part and it works really good when using other google products such a Google mini, etc.

    Doesn't work without wifi router

    I bought this item to watch my phone on the TV. It doesn't work if you don't have a wifi router at home. You can't use the wifi from the same device you want to chrome cast. It'll work if you have a 3rd device (with a hot spot) that both your phone/laptop AND the Chromecast device can connect to. But still complicated and inconvenient.

    I purchased this and then returned it. It was too annoying to set up and then had to set it up over and over. Also, not sure that I like some device just 'hanging' from an HDMI port. Lastly, it requires a power source so you have this ugly power cord. I bought its competitor at 5x the price, it works and it is awesome.

    I told the employee that I was looking for a device that I could stream from my phone to my TV using my phones mobile data, even asked for the MS wireless display adapter, but the Google rep at the store told me this would do the same. It did not, so I wasted time buying it. It was returned within a couple hours.

    I bought this Chromecast to see if it can be used to cast stuff from my phone to the tv but turns out it cannot cast apple devices without using purchased apps. Other apps like Netflix,Hulu,Youtube etc which it does are already in built in modern tv's so why would anyone need a Chromecast to do it. Waste of money.

    It’s a good decide if you are using basic apps such as Hulu, Netflix but it doesn’t have many apps we do use. We ended up buying Apple TV. We also have to download app and have it sync to tv. It’s many steps and you have to have a phone or tablet near by.

    I did not like it as it was difficult to connect to ohine and remain connected. I purchased it for my mother and the amount of times I had tk walk her through trouble shooting outweighed the convenience of cutting the cord.

    I thought this was going to hook up to my tv and sync with my google home mini so I could just speak and turn on Netflix. I didn’t realize it was more of a mirroring item. If your looking to mirror your phone or computer then this will be for you.

    Bought this for bedroom tv, limited apps and some not even available, cannot use SiriusXM through it and when try YouTube it says must be a paid subscription. Have Roku on living room tv it works great. Would not recommend this

    Sales associate stated it would work with iphone but couldnt get iphone to reconize it to stream through tv. My buddys android phone it worked and maybe cause he has older phone it would freeze up when streaming so returned.

    I have had numerous issues getting this product to work consistently. There seems to be an issue casting from the Samsung S10. New phone must not be very compatible with Chromecast.

    Disappointed in this, doesn't do nearly as much as I was hoping. Must play off of a phone and send to it. Will go back to an Apple TV which seems much better to me.

    I bought this for my mother to use since she doesnt have a smart TV. Despite a strong connection and good quality video, sound did not synchronize with video timing.

    O bought this product thinking that i could chromecast from tablet or phone playstation vue. It worked for a few days then i couldnt cast psvue anymore really dissapointed.

    This is our 2nd Chromecast. The first one worked fine. We bought this one for our 2nd TV (an older Samsung). Unfortunately, the Chromecast work work with this TV.

    Set up was easy but using it requires the smart phone to be used as a remote control. There should be a description of no remote control included.
