    Returned. Netflix problems

Netflix worked out the box, Hulu worked... YouTube worked... Everything worked... I'd try to cast Netflix again "sorry something went wrong. Try again later or cast something else" Hulu and everything else worked fine... Only way to get Netflix to work again was a factory reset. I updated firmware and everything on phones tablets chromecast..... everything up to date. I did recently upgraded my home wifi to an Orbi system..... Maybe that's the reason? I would have tried more to troubleshoot but.... Google's customer service was, let's just say.. not the best. Google said it was a Netflix problem and got Netflix on the line... Google left the call and left me with Netflix... Netflix immediately said "the error message says chromecast.com/help.... It's a Chromecast problem.". Google called me back an hour later, I told the rep what happened that it was a chromecast issue.... He said it's a Netflix issue, I said I was going to just return it... He suggested I talk to a supervisor.... He out a supervisor on the line that said it's a Netflix issue and he was sorry that I was returning it.... Why the hell did I need to wait to talk to a supervisor to hear him say sorry? Got a firestick 4k that was cheaper and it works great with all apps, I can even tell it to show my exterior security cameras... And has a remote. Haven't returned a piece of technology in yearsssss.... And have a smart home. Thanks Google.

At first I was very happy with this purchase. Setup was fairly straight forward (I had to have it search for the Chrome Cast device twice to finally set everything up). Once setup it worked great and my daughter (iPhone 7) and I (Samsung S7) were able to connect and control it with our phones. Netflix, YouTube, etc. (any Chrome Cast enabled app) worked fine. Added bonus for me was that I could cast my Galaxy S7 phone (something not supported for iPhones -- what's up with that?). After a couple of weeks or so it suddenly stopped working for both me and my daughter. After a couple of hours of troubleshooting I finally got it to work again (yesterday) and so far it's working again for us both. I had to unplug the device's power cord, reboot and then hit the reset switch for 15 seconds. Went through all the setup steps for the device again. I had done this previously and although my phone would connect to the device to set it up, after getting setup my phone would not be able to find it and connect again (even though it just had connected). Very frustrating! Now I'm waiting to see if it will stop again. If you're not the patient trouble-shooting type you may want to reconsider this purchase. When it works it's great! When this sort of thing happens it really sucks. My $0.02.

If you plan on plugging this device directly into your receiver, think again. I purchased this device to upgrade from my previous generation ChromeCast. Everything worked fine when I got it home and plugged it directly into my receiver. After setting up the device and it applying updates, I could no longer use the device with my receiver. I now have to plug this (piece of ____) directly into my TV, which I did not and do not want. I don't even have a 4K TV and this is the only way for me to use this device. I am highly disappointed and this will most likely be the last ChromeCast device I will be purchasing. When I purchase something, I want it to work for me and not me having to work around it; but it seems like this is the trend of these companies today. I have searched online for solutions, but I just turn up with other people going through the same issue. Google says on one of their support sites that it is meant to be plugged directly into the TV's HDMI, not the receiver. In the day and age of 4K HDMI multiport A/V Receivers and home theaters.... Really?! smh...

    Tedious setup

Set up wasn't straight forward. 1) The Chromecast required an immediate firmware update. However because the wifi signal wasn't super strong in the room with the SmartTV, the update wouldn't load so I had to move the Chromecast to another TV closer to the router. 2) Then (after moving the Chromecast back to original TV), I did the system setup, and it changed the default feed from cable to Chromecast. I went to Best Buy for advise and was told "that happens" but it shouldn't impact your use of cable. But it did and I couldn't revert back to the original set up. 3) Also, one reason for my getting the Chromecast was to cast from my mobile phone and tablet to my TV. After installing, I learned that Samsung builds casting into their TV for use with Samsung phones. Since I had a Samsung SmartTV and a Samsung phone, I realized that all the hassle wasn't worth it. So...after many hours of making everything work, I ended up returning the Chromecast.

I do NOT like the ChromeCast Ultra. This is the deal: I love Google and I love Chrome and I even love ChromeCast that's built into my TV. This product though was terrible. Always remember you could get a bad or defective device but I just decided to return it and not get another. I bought this for my parents to use for their TV and it wouldn't get the job done good enough. Casting was awful and wouldn't load and using a phone to connect and play still seems to be behind. Maybe in a few years this product will be better or maybe my parents will get a better smart TV but the unit I bought didn't do the job for me. I would cast and connect but it was really bad connectivity and the internet I have is amazing and fast so I don't know why this didn't work well. As I said I hope it was just a bad unit.

I purchased this, and 2 different Roku sticks to compare. If you want to tell Google home to turn on your TV, this is the item to have. You will also have to know what exactly you want to watch. For example Hey google turn on my tv, show me the umbrella academy on netflix. Otherwise you have to browse what you want to watch on your phone. Not a fan. I guess it's a personal choice but the Roku stick, and apps you can browse on your TV. It is like most cable networks, or Netflix. As far as U4k picture it was as promised, but I ended up choosing ROKU in the end for ease of use, and it's intuitive feel.

There's a line across the screen for some reason. Maybe it's app specific. There is no remote, so you have to use your phone to use the Chromecast, otherwise, it is useless. I couldn't use my Bluetooth headphones. The Apple TV is so much better than this Chromecast. I guess that's why the Chromecast is so much cheaper. It doesn't meet my expectations, so I am returning it ASAP. Oh, and when I removed the Chromecast after I trying it, it was seriously overheating, so that sucked too. To be fair, I did not try other apps like Netflix or YouTube.

Don't get me wrong I love the Google brand I love all their features in Google the only thing that I do not like about this Google Chromecast is the only way you can use this is through your phone or other devices if you do not carry a SmartTV this is the best way to cast your movies or other features that you want. I will say it again if you do not carry a Smart TV that doesn't play apps or Internet Chromecast is the way to go you can only cast from your phone or other devices.

I bought the Ultra to replace my venerable 1st gen Chromecast, because I was tired of watching it constantly buffering during games on MLB.tv. Now, instead of the annoying swirlie, the Ultra just stops casting and returns to the default screen without warning. It will do that several times during a baseball game. Otherwise, I don’t notice any particular performance change over the old one. I plan to just run an HDMI cable from my iPhone, so I can spend more time cussing bad umpires and less time cussing bad gear.

Our household just switched out all Apple products and now use Android devices. We have been using an Apple TV so this review is biased by the ease of use of Apple TV for the last several years. Chromecast was easy to install but there is no streaming like ROKU or Apple TV. We had to "cast" our streaming video from our Android phones or Chromebook. I don't get why people want to go the extra step and be required to use another device to cast to a TV. We returned it to Best Buy for an FIre Stick.

Great at streaming when it wants to work. Half the time stuff can't stream to it(not a network issue as the app can still see the screensaver and reboot the device). Its a huge pain to have to constantly reboot this hunk of junk to be able to stream to it. Its too bad if Google had made the software reliable this would have been a good device(surprisingly the worst thing to stream to this is an Android phone a chromebook works a tiny bit better). Contacting Google for support is not helpful as they do not help fix.

I did not buy the chromecast ultra to cast. I have a 4k smart tv that has 4k casting tech built in. I actually bought the hockey puck for my google home assistant, ''Google assistant isn't a cheap date" I have a lot more voice control over my tv w/chromecast. 2 out 5 stars. The fact that I'm literally not using it to cast anything and it costed me about $70 just to get Google to halfway control my tv.

I had a chromecast originally but scrapped it since it didn’t offer anything over Apple TV. I bought the Chromecast Ultra to gain access to Di$ney UHD movies on vudu. Well Vudu is bugged and recent uhd movies like Thor ragnarok and the last Jedi and others won’t play UHD on chromecast ultra. Fandango Now is another movies anywhere partner but won’t do UHD on chromecast ultra. Save your money to buy an appletv or Roku box.

Not very happy with this product, constantly having issues with unit disconnecting from internet and not reconnecting without hard reboot. Constantly disconnecting and displaying message that i need to reauthorize password. A real pain in the butt, had to resort to disconnecting the unit to keep it from messing up my internet.

Bought solely for the purpose of connecting my r oku tv to the Google home so I could controls the tv with voice commands. Not not was the tv not able to be controlled it couldn't even power the tv off... if you have an old flat screen tv with an HDMI port that's not a smart tv this device allows you to access Netflix or any other smart tv feature well enough otherwise ignore it.

I prefer to use an older version of AppleTV than Chromecast Ultra because it has a remote control and we can control the TV channels using Airplay. The main reason I tested Chromecast was to use YouTubeTV and I was able to do that using my old AppleTVs. The Chromecast image could be better than the old AppleTV image but I didn't notice a substantial diffence.

Does Not Work with Wall Mounted TVs

No more USB power option, the only power option is a built in power cord with a 3"x4" head that won't fit behind your TV if it's mounted flush with the wall. You could run the cord from the TV down your wall, but obviously that looks terrible. Went with a Roku 4K Stick that powers itself through the TVs USB port. Hard to believe Google messed this design feature up!

I reviewed the non 4K version and that one is good, but this thing is just a waste of money. I never get 4K resolution with Netflix, barely 1080p and it has nothing to do with my internet connection because my other streamer devices give me full 4K resolutions.

One of the disappointing device from google based on how expensive it is. Always the first time when stream tv in shutdown mode the tv starts and then stops casting, so you would need to again cast especially when you are using Google Home. This is absolutely not worth the price, I replaced it with another device which comes with built in chomecast.

I bought this item as a streaming device. 1. Needs to have its own power. 2. Seems the programs get hung up and takes a few minutes to correct. (turning off phone and restarting the whole process) . In my opinion, if you have no other way to stream (XBOX, PS4, Smart TV, ect..) its a good choice and does work. I just don't think it was worth my time.
