If you purchase 4K content from the Google Play store the Chromecast Ultra is one of the few devices that will allow you to stream in 4k, otherwise your stuck with HD or SD quality depending on the device. I upgraded to the Chromecast Ultra after my original Chromecast (gen 1) finally failed after many years of use and abuse being moved around from TV to TV. Comparing this to the original, the use and interface is exactly the same. With 4k streaming content being particular as far as what can be viewed on which device from 'X' service I am happy to report that I have been able to watch 4k content from Netflix and Vudu. When comparing 1080 (HD) to 4K (UHD) streaming content, it was difficult to notice major changes in the quality of the picture, although there was an improvement. Some awesome added features are the functionality with the Google Smart Home now being able to show you some limited visual responses and a bit more snappy response from the device itself. I like the fact that the Chromecast offers an ethernet port to allow for faster and more stable internet connection by being hard-wired. If you own digital 4k content from Google, Vudu or have a premium Netflix account this is definitely a viable choice. I would not recommend this to the average user simply looking just to stream, additionally with the device frequently going on sale I believe its sale price is more fitting for this devices actual worth. Being extremely satisfied with my original Chromecast this was an easy purchase when I got it on sale. (It's also worth noting that any Chromecast has the ability to turn On and Off (modern) TV's with the Google Home, one of its best features)

I already owned a Google Chromecast, but I now have a 4K TV so I wanted to the Chromecast to be able to handle 4K. It works perfectly. My Sony TV has Android TV as its OS, so the TV itself is basically a chromecast. However, the youtube app buffered non-stop, even on HD videos. 4K videos were impossible. It seemed to only be youtube. VUDU and Netflix are all fine, but youtube seems to have a problem. I got the Chromecast Ultra kind of as an experiment. It is attached to the TV so it is the same distance to my router. There is an Android app (Fast Speed Test for Chromecast) that will tell you the speed your Chromecast gets, and both the Sony Android TV and the Chromecast Ultra are getting 50+ Mbps, so plenty fast for 4K. The Chromecast Ultra plays 4K 60fps videos perfectly. Smooth and clear. The functionality of the Chromecast has always been good, and that hasn't changed. Using your phone to pick videos is very handy. The one thing I don't like is the power cord. Previous Chromecasts just had a micro USB power. You could plug it into your TVs USB port, so you didn't need to have another power cord hanging off the back of your TV. I assume the additional processing power needed for 4K videos required more power. One advantage is the power cord now has an ethernet port in it. So if you have ethernet available near your TV you can use it rather than WiFi if you WiFi is too slow.

I have used Google Chromecasts for years and I love them all. This one is the 4K version and it is perfect, image is clear and I have not experimented any issues at all ever. The device looks good, it’s small, connecting cable is long a pity to reach the power supply and it has a magnet in the back that keeps it tidy. I mean, the device goes in the back of the TV anyhow but they sure thought of everything when designing this one. I have mine connected to the back of the surround sound system that connects to my TV and it works like a charm. To connect the device is super easy as it walks you step by step using the google app and the promps on the TV as you set it up. One of my favorites things about this device is that when the device is on standby mode it displays pictures and small videos of amazing beautiful places all over the world and it updates pics and its OS weekly. If you need something simple to cast TV shows, DitecTV Now, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube videos and other simple tasks, this I your device for the right price.

The Chromecast works very well. I did not install directly to my TV's HDMI port which is in the instructions. Instead I connected it to an HDMI port on my receiver. This allows me to select my devices without having to change my settings on my Harmony remote. I use the Chromecast primarily to view YouTubeTv on my TV. I also use it to stream from my phone other apps such as Amazon Prime Music. I was pleasantly surprised that once I started viewing YouTubeTv I could turn my phone off and still watch an entire night without my phone even being on. I am assuming that YouTubeTv is a built in function on the Chromecast that only needs the phone to start playing. The phone is still needed as a "remote" to change programs but once selected you don't need the phone anymore. The install process on Android is simple. All you need to do is install / update the Google Home app. Once done you don't need to even access it. Google Home will automatically put an icon into any app that supports Chromecast and when you press that icon, the app will stream to your TV. Simple enough. I bought the Chromecast Ultra that supports 4K but the original Chromecast will work as well. I didn't mind paying the extra 35 dollars.

I wish that I had originally purchased this unit when it was first available. The addition of an RJ45 port to drive this device on your WIRED network instead of relying on WIFI is the "best" feature on this device. If you're WIFI is subpar then you absolutely should buy this unit to take advantage of the wired option. If you have a guest WIFI setup in your house and you plan on "casting" from your mobile phone to this unit while it's wired you may need to consider configuring our network to allow the wireless users to be on the same network as your wired users. If you have the chops to do networking you have a ton options here but using this on the wired network is 100% the way to go. Please also factor in that you if you want to use the wired option on this unit then you have to also have a network cable "danger close" to the unit to take advantage of the improved performance.

I've had the 1st and 2nd release chromecast but that near $70 was outrageous. The price went on sale and I got one. It works the same as the others, cell, tablet, pc will recognize it. Watch youtube, select tv input to the hdmi you plugged the chromecast into, stream it to the chromecast. If your tv is 4k capable and your video transmits to you in 4k, its outstanding. I have no jitter or pauses. If you dont have a 4k tv, this is overkill and the cheaper previous HD version is perfect. You cant send itunes to it. And Amazon requires firestick. So google and youtube, plus any .avi or .mp4 movies you have on your device will stream. On my pc I find that using VLC media player app I can select playback at the top of the app, then renderer and it will see my chromecast. I also have the previous version plugged into my amp, so I can get stereo. There are just too few 4k videos to get too excited over this- or the 4k tv either. But it works great, easy set up and usage.

I have a Toshiba 55 inch 4K TV with Chromecast built in (model 55L711U18). It is an entry level 4K TV so when I would cast Netflix onto it, I was not 100% happy with the quality. Shows that I know are in 4K (most Netflix originals are in 4K) did not look impressive and the upscaling was even more disappointing. I mean it was better than my 1080p but I was expecting a little more even though it is an entry level 4K TV. I decided to get the Chromecast Ultra and it was a GREAT decision. The 4K shows that I tried before looked amazing and the movie I tried that was not in 4K looked as close to it as can get. I then put it into my 1080p television and was impressed with what I saw. Even though the content from my phone says HD, the Chromecast Ultra will stream it in the highest quality as long as you have the right plan and fast internet speed (shout out to the Ethernet port on the Chromecast Ultra). If you want to stream in the highest quality then you must get the Chromecast Ultra! Oh and I almost forgot that it does work with google home. Gotta love technology!

I got hooked on Chromecast when they just first created it. It recently broke after service me 2 years and I decided to purchase Chromecast Ultra. I was not disappointed. You can connect Ethernet to it, which means higher Internet speed and the overall quality is so much better on my TV. So the basic functionality is the ability to watch videos or listen to music. You can use Youtube, Hulu and other providers for video. You can use Google Music, DI.FM and other providers for music. Frankly, having a Smart TV you can cast video just using TV itself. But Chromecast has other features that I am just in love with. I love the fact that you can cast pictures on your TV. Your own pictures from Google Photos or Facebook and other services. Other peoples pictures from all over the Internet. I always wanted to buy one of these digital picture frames, but this is so much better. It is a digital frame on your TV in HD. You can see the news. You know the temperature outside. It shows you current time. So for me Chromecast is not just the ability to watch video and listen to audio. It is so much more. It is entertainment and informational center for me. My TV is always ON.

It is hard to review a 4K Chrome-cast with so little 4K content available. I have watched a the new Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in 4K on my 4K tv with both an original Chrome-cast and a Chrome-cast Ultra. There was a slight improvement but nothing spectacular, though the Samsung 55" UKS9000 series TV may have a lot to do with that. The biggest noticeable improvement comes from the device being a wired device. I did not have to deal with issues when both kids and my wife are streaming various videos to their tablets. This aspect was significant enough that I have ordered the wired Ethernet adapter for the Chromecast that is attached to the second TV. I do not know if this supports WIFI, but in an apartment situation where there will be a lot of congestion on WIFI I am thinking the wired aspect of this will be a major benefit.

I updated from a previous Chromecast, has the same design, you might think that the Chromecast Ultra is the successor of the Chromecast because it is more current, and has improvements. But really it's not so. The standard Chromecast remains the same, the second that has been released in the history of Google. Choosing between one or the other depends mainly on your television. Keep in mind that the main difference between the two Chromecast is the resolution at which the movies can play. While the standard Chromecast stays in Full HD, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, the Chromecast Ultra goes up to 4K, or Ultra HD. As is logical, this is especially interesting to users who have a television in this resolution. It is also true that this Chromecast Ultra is compatible with HDR + in video, but this feature will not be as noticeable and remarkable as the 4K resolution. Thus, the key factor in choosing one or the other will be if we have a 4K television.

I now own 2 Chromecasts and they are very different. I first purchased the standard Chromecast first for use with online content through Plex, Netflix, Hulu and others. It was great but it would hiccup occasionally when I would attempt to stream any content that required more bandwidth than it was designed for. Still a solid product if you don't plan to use it for very high quality media. After using Chromecast Ultra though, I honestly forgot that it was there. It just works smoothly with whatever I send at it. An added note is that I am not using my wifi to stream through Chromecast. I am directly connected to the internet with Chromecast Ultra via an Ethernet cable and I was connected to via an Ethernet cable as well with the standard Chromecast setup. I constantly stream high quality movies and it was worth the investment for me. Nothing like a stuttering, sputtering movie to ruin the flow of a movie night and I no longer have that with Chromecast Ultra.

This is my “go-to” device for N-Flx. Much better than A-TV. A-TV is always falling off the network forcing me to find the silver remote to operate it. This device is rock solid and always works from the iPhone N-Flx client. I also stream to it from Plex and it’s rock solid. My favorite feature is the ability to synchronously play audio throughout the house to Chromecast Audio devices synchronously. It’s nice to walk from room to room and hear the same audio without delay or glitch. This CC integrates seamlessly with the other CCs and CC Audios to create a Sonos-like System that’s way easier to set up and operate. I have my entire music collection from iTunes on my Plex Media server and it’s very easy to use. If you’re a “cloud person,” we have found it very easy to use with Spotify too.

I got sick n tired of my cable provider being unable to make a plug n play cable TV box to just work. Averaged 1 1/2 hours on the phone with them “trouble shooting” the problem they promised over and over again that it “should” be working. Snip-snip cable gone. No more $200+ per month bundle that didn’t work. My TV’s have NEVER been this healthy before. Cell phone is my control center and I can turn the TV on after working all day watch TV again. Plenty of apps for stations and I pay for what I need/watch and it’s SIGNIFICANTLY, dare I say SIGNIFICANTLY, CHEAPER and more cost effective. I should’ve done it when it started, considering I was on the cable company’s books for over 18 years. No more set and forget because they forgot about me. They wanted to charge me $535 to cancel my “bundle”. Thanks for the 18 years of returned loyalty! Cya!!

If you got a 4K projector like me, odds are it doesn't come with smart apps (I still don't know why...). And my 4K player (disappointingly) doesn't have a lot of video app options, and the ones I do use regularly - Vudu, Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube - have a maximum resolution of Full HD, not 4K. I tested the 4K + HDR with "Marvel's Avengers", and I truly couldn't believe my eyes! I had seen 4K before, but on my projector via the Chromecast Ultra, the image looked real and the colors really popped! And I don't know how it is in other apps, but on Vudu, when streaming in 4K, the audio format is in Dolby Atmos, so you truly get the theater experience at home. So now, thanks to the Chromecast Ultra, I'm able to enjoy my movie library (750+ movies) in my 4K home theater.

THis product is great, first off, the 4k streaming from even a iphone 4 from youtube, that is amazing. I use the ufc app on my phone and i use NFL gamepass and SOME of the games are in 4K and some of the UFC fights are in 4K (ufc 200). You can tell the difference in those apps and youtube, but otherwise, i dont see much that my tv can't do. But for football alone, it is great since sucky dish network can't get it together and launch some 4k channels. thats another story. But if you get lucky with some acceptable coupons or rewards, this can be a great deal. I heavily recommend using the network cable if you have the chance too, the wifi works great, but there is that 10 seconds of blocky pixelating, where with the network cable, no need. I know the point of chormecast is completely wireless, but if you want no lag, this is a great option.

This was the best suggestion my friend could have made. No one was suggesting this everybody was telling us we had to upgrade our cable which would have costed us a fortune and had a sign on for 2 years it was ridiculous when all we had to do was buy this and it works perfect. I had no idea this even existed it works amazingly well for Netflix and an accident I used it for YouTube and was shocked at how well it worked. I got the updated version and have had zero trouble. I highly recommend doing this over anything else don't upgrade your cable don't listen to people that say you have to get a newer TV or expensive phone this should work perfect for you.

Great Device to Cast Music & Video to a TV

I bought this device for a friend of mine who has a "dumb TV." It's dead easy to plug it in to a TV's HDMI port and set up with the Google Home app. (It helps if someone is a little technical or not put off by such tasks). I set it up with a fun name so that it would be easy to find. Then, I taught my friend how to watch videos on YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc., and cast them to the TV easily. I also showed him how some music apps (like Google Play Music and iHeartRadio) can cast to the device, too. Now, it's easy to hang out at home and watch whatever we want when there's "nothing good on TV." Now there's always something good on TV! I chose this device for my friend rather than an Apple TV or a Roku box because he doesn't engage with media on his TV very much. Plus, it's easy for me to cast content to the TV when I visit.

I never owned any of the previous versions of Chromecasts because i felt it was too early in the stage to buy a streaming device. I was skeptical if there will be lag while watching videos steaming from any apps or constantly if it would stops for buffering the video. But this ultra-version checked all my questions and surprised pleasantly. I was blown away by the video quality produced from the Chromecast apps. I didn't expect my TV can produce such a great contrast and vibrant colors that you normally see it on HDR TVs. You tube videos are so lively compared to what i had seen when i hooked HDMI to my laptop. I am thoroughly satisfied for a quality product like this. Don't go for earlier version as this one can last for a while until you see something big shift in technology.

An upgrade over the normal Chromecast, but the upgrade is not for everyone. With the Chromecast Ultra, you will see better quality videos (it's really dependent on your internet connection, but the Ethernet support really helps in my case), a faster response time to connecting, and I've noticed my phone's connection tends to drops less with this upgraded version. Cons: 4K content is lacking unless you are willing to pay extra. The regular chromecast is sufficient for most people. Note: The Ultra gives you the option to use an Ethernet cable or WiFi, but I would definitely recommend using an Ethernet cable unless you have very strong WiFi. The 4K content or HD content can take a lot of bandwidth.

I can say is it's better and faster than the original! Ethernet cable capability adapter plug allows it to connect directly from the plug to the cable modem. Then you um recommend that you download Google Cast your laptop for on Google and for your phone use Google home app she helped me use device. So you can cast ,scream faster n quicker then with the Wireless( original)! it's always best to have a good high-speed internet connection. I mean I used Cox Cable from my internet company! I had issues I called you problems when it's been resolved.so if it won't work properly and sometimes you might have to call the internet company r upgrade interested speed r cable modem. There's some tweaks overall I would say it 10 times better then the Wireless Google - Chromecast.
