I have purchased several of the Nests outdoor cameras that I love. But was always a bit of extra work dealing with the need for an outlet or hiding a long cord. This solved those problems making it extremely easy to setup and install. The video quality is great and the app is super easy to use. I do worry a bit if perhaps it might be an issue for theft in high traffic areas.

I recently purchased the Google Nest Cam 2-Pack for indoor and outdoor use, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the performance. The cameras are incredibly easy to set up, and the wire-free design gives you flexibility for placement. The video quality is sharp and clear, even at night, and the motion detection is highly accurate. The mobile app makes it super convenient to monitor my home in real-time, and the alerts are quick and reliable. This purchase has brought me peace of mind and added security to my home. Highly recommend it! Best Buy Protection Plan Review Adding the Best Buy Protection Plan was a smart decision. It provides great coverage for up to 24 months and gives me peace of mind knowing my investment is protected. The plan is easy to understand, and Best Buy’s support team is always responsive. I feel confident that if anything goes wrong, it will be taken care of quickly. It’s worth every penny!

Easy to set up. Integrates well with google home. Good quality camera. Just wish Google would lower the cost as they are expensive compared to other similar-quality cameras. Would have probably gone with another brand had it not been for the fact I'm already invested in the Google ecosystem.

Very Good Camera with Technical Issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased 4 of these cameras to replace some Gen1 and Gen2 Nest camera we have installed. I was hopeful the image quality and features would be better on the new cameras. So my two cents on these after a month of using them Pros - Very good daytime image quality - Easy to setup and install, though the repetitive instructions for how to attach the base to wall are tedious - Flexible installation, powered all the time or just battery powered Cons - Mediocre night time image quality with the Night Vision turned off, though better than the earlier cameras - Night Vision has been hit or miss, with frequent pixelation in the image - All 4 cameras have horizontal banding in the image. These are all installed in the same locations and outlets as the older cameras. This problem runs from very subtle and difficult/impossible to see, to more more visible and obvious. It seems to occur in low to moderate light, so dusk or maybe a staircase with a single light at night (see photo) - Tech support is atrocious at best. - Only a 15 day return period if you buy them from Google, longer if purchased from a third party. - Google moved the camera to the Google Home app, so the video can only be viewed on the app. The browser web page interface has been removed, and you can only save video clips of Events. No more customer defined video clips.

Hi Markh, thanks for being an advocate of our products, and for sharing your feedback with us. We do apologize for the poor experience you´re having with some of its features, and for falling short on your support needs.

Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues, but most Night Vision specific issues are caused by the camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near the camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall. Here are some recommended steps that may be helpful with the issue:
      - Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints, and dirt can cause poor image quality.
      - Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view.
      - Use the Google Home app to Zoom and Enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be the cause of the glare.
      - If a bright white shape along the edge appears while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
      - Move nearby objects that may reflect the infrared light.
      - Check for possible congestion in your network, by removing some of your connected devices and see if the video quality will improve. If you verify the presence of congestion, upgrading your Internet bandwidth may be required.

Easy to get running, but because Google buying Nest, it can be a little tricky getting the two connected. In cold weather, the battery seriously degrades and must be charged about every week when it's freezing. I do like the quality and clarity and have purchased another one since.

Hello DanielM, we’re thankful for your feedback on Nest Cam (battery), and we hear your concerns about getting them connected, and about its battery life.

The battery life depends on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

Also, you can avoid charging the battery more often by connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter, which will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

We’d be happy to share your feedback with the right team for future improvements with our products and services. If you find yourself in need of any assistance, let us know by visiting us at: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Great picture quality, easy to set up, has the same features as the old one. The only thing is if you put it in high traffic area the battery won’t last. Had it charged 100% and placed in night traffic area it lasted only 3 weeks till I had to charge it again.

Hi Good12334, it's great to hear that you're liking the picture quality, ease of set up and features of Nest Cam (Battery). However, we're sorry to hear that you're experiencing shorter than expected battery life.

Placing Nest Cam (Battery) in an area with heavy traffic will trigger its sensors, start recording based on the event or motion that it detected and it will then alert you via a notification on your phone, tablet or email. The frequency of such an event will definitely consume more power, lessening the battery life. However, Nest Cam (Battery) battery life will also depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. It's possible to extend the battery life of your Nest camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

To learn more about how you can change the settings for your Nest Cam (Battery), we recommend visiting this help page for more information: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9231819

It's important to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. The indoor/outdoor Google cameras were surprisingly simple to install and set up (the setup really is the easy part, though). Installing was a breeze (and this is coming from a guy who can't hang a picture straight). The quality of the picture is excellent, and its battery life is also very good. It's been over a week, and they haven't even burned 25% battery life yet. You can get a better deal if you buy the two-pack, though sometimes you can get a better deal on a single camera if they have a sale going.

The camera is ok. Most of the 1 star reviews are from people who didn't read the product description or properly research the item. "This camera doesn't work with the Nest app, 1 STAR." Although the resolution is only 1080p, the quality looks much better than my Arlo cameras. If you want 24/7 video history, you need to buy the outdoor cable and the Nest Aware subscription. Pros: Idiot proof installation, crisp 1080p resolution, HDR, fast intelligent alerts Cons: Home app is not as good as Nest app, stupid proprietary charging cable, no previews on WearOS watch, old Nest cameras don't fully work with Home app yet

I recently started using the Google Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor Wire Free Security Camera in Snow, and overall, I'm quite pleased with it. The picture quality is impressive, providing clear and crisp images both day and night, which gives me peace of mind about my home security. One of the standout features for me is the ability to talk to people through the camera. It’s incredibly convenient for communicating with visitors or family members without having to open the door. While I do find the camera simple to use, the battery life is just average. I wish it lasted a bit longer between charges, but the convenience of being wire-free somewhat makes up for it. Overall, this camera is a solid choice for anyone looking to enhance their home security with great picture quality and user-friendly features!

    NEEDS NEST INTEGRATION

I install these products as a profession, I currently have 2 Outdoor IQ, 1 Indoor IQ and 1 Nest hello(not the new google branded) not to count the other various hubs/google minis I have in my home. This camera I purchased for my own personal use to become more familiar with so I can speak to its features and specs. Just like EVERYONE else the issue is the fact that when you go to the nest app to scan the QR code it gives you the "you need to add this to the google home app". Once you have it added the functionality and the layout of the features is not easy and user friendly like they are on the nest app. You cannot see your cameras feed in the google app unless you select said camera which is why I do not use the GHOME app for my previous cameras. The fact you cannot see this camera in the nest app either is a huge turn off on selling this especially to anyone who has one of your previous gen cameras. I know I will receive the same answer of " Our teams are working on enabling the ability to setup and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices. We’re also working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices." THIS IS NOT WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE ASKING FOR! Its great you are integrating everything to the google home app. I am not disagreeing with this either, go ahead and do the above. You need to let this camera integrate to the nest app in the meantime as well. Otherwise your reviews are going to keep going down the drain on this, which seems like a fairly important factor and considering its only a 2 and a half star on BestBuy after only launching for less than a month is concerning am I wrong?

The install is pretty simple, just follow the instructions and have your Google Home application ready to go on your phone. Phone. If you're doing this, you probably already have smart devices, so you probably already have Google Home setup. If not, don't panic, Google Home is not that difficult to set up. Now the nest cams, whether they're wired or battery are designed for surveillance but not necessarily recording as much as we would like. Google has not quite gotten this correctly yet. Because this is a security application, you will want to opt for the Google aware premium program which is about $100 a year. Just fork it out and forget about it. This will allow you to at least view your videos going back several days and the events are what you're looking for. These are things you set up and you can ask for things like show me what animals are there or show me if there are people there. Things like that. Facial recognition is fine. But if you want to download, you're going to have to go through a lot to get things downloaded. Google did not provide a seamless application for this. See all of your cameras at once on any browser by typing. Home.google.com with your Google ID and password. You will see all the video cams up at once, if you have multiple. This is the live view only, you cannot see recorded events which is unfortunate. Another Google shortfall. When Google can give us the ability to download videos to our hard drive or cloud drive that would be really cool. When they do, this will go up to five stars. Until then, Google has some homework to do. Oh, and the nest program is probably not going to be there much longer. It seems to be devoted primarily to thermostats and things like that. It doesn't work for other smart appliances. Google needs an all-in-one app and that's going to be Google Home, I would bet. Google, do your homework, get your apps working together, and give the consumer anything that you can think they would want, like the idea of downloading videos so that we can look at things in detail if we have to. Don't make me have to fight for it with other technologies. Oh, and you cannot see these cameras at all on a Google Android TV at all. It's physically impossible. You can only see it on the Google Home app, or on one of the Google nest screens that you can buy for $100 or so. Google needs to fix that too. Everybody wants to see their video cameras on their TV without any hassle. So come on Google, go for the five-star rating.

Hi there, ThomasFairmontWV. We appreciate your review on Nest Cam (Battery). We're sorry to hear that both the Nest Aware subscription and the Google Home features didn't meet your expectations.

Keep in mind that your doorbell can only save up to 3 hours of video recording before it expires and is deleted. This recording limitation can be extended when you get an active Nest Aware subscription that includes 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips, time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertips using the Google Home App. You can learn more about what you get with the Nest Aware subscription here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233159

We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Battery):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - If you're having older Nest cameras then you may set them up with the Google Home app. Check out this help article to learn more: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

We appreciate the features that you would like to have on both the Google Home app and Nest Aware subscription. We've taken this information into consideration and we'll make sure this is shared with our product team as well. In the meantime, we hope you will visit our blog site for the latest news on our product and feature releases here: https://blog.google/

Overall the video quality is okay and they are fairly discrete making them a decent option for home security. The only thing I do not like about the battery powered nest cameras is that you cannot get 24/7 surveillance even if you have them plugged in full time, they record only when they detect motion, vehicles, people, or animals (depending on what you set them to detect). Recommended for people who don’t need 24/7 surveillance.

Cameras are great. Easy, good images, plenty of options to customize, I like that I can choose to use the nest aware service for extended recordings etc. I use their whole Google system and various devices (floodlight cams, doorbells, hubs, hub max, mini). My only issue is getting consistent notifications to my Samsung galaxy watch, which is a major point of use for me. Also, recognize that privacy with Google itself continues to grow weaker; then again, nothing is really private once you are using the internet in any way.

Good outdoor camera with limited battery life, especially if a lot of activity occurs. Put one of the two in the material storage section of my construction business yard. The other went over a mechanic’s bay with much more activity. I’ve already charged the mechanic’s bay camera two times in two weeks. The other camera states a two month battery life based on activity. Solid in all other aspects, great picture, great features, etc. I wish Google’s system allowed a scheduled on/off feature, and it may, I’m no tech wizard; but it seems you cannot schedule a home/away that’s not tied to a certain person or account’s geographic location.

Having a few nest products, I decided to purchase this camera and add it in a hard to reach place outdoor where the battery option comes in handy. The initial set-up is simple and fairly quick through the Google Home app. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't add it to my best app. The magnet is very strong and keep the camera from moving from its original position. The quality is great particularly with morning light and average at night. I set mine to stay idle at all times and notify me of any movement if I'm not present in the house. So far, I'm satisfied with the performance. I've had it for 21 days and the estimated charge is at 3 months.

Easy connection, Easy installation and good clear picture. The only down side is recharging, but if that’s to much of a hassle you get the wired.

Hi there, Bruce. Thank you for choosing Nest Cam (battery) for your home. We're glad to hear that you had an easy time with installing the device. We recommend changing the settings to save battery. You can lower the battery usage or use the Battery Saver. Both options help extend the battery life of your device.
