Needed a camera that was compatabile with the 5Ghz of our new Starlink internet and the Nest is compatable! It was very easy to set up, took just a few minutes; in part because I already have google home set up with a Google Mini in my kitchen. The app is easy to use, and the camera has sollid features that work great. Night vision is impressive, range is impressive. Very happy with this so far. I did buy the power adapter just for added comfort that I don't need to worry about the batter life. The redudancy was a personal choice and prohibits me from commenting on the battery life. Glad the option is available, nice perk.

The cameras are good! Good quality, but unfortunately battery only lasts about 2.5 weeks with the camera being in the front of our house. Id recommend a wired version if you plan on putting it in a high traffic area. Otherwise theyre good!

    Wire failure

I would still recommend these cameras although after three years of southern florida sunlight the wires have dried out. I started having intermittent drop out from this camera. Upon observation I found the rubber sheathing dried and missing and the cable exposed. But until that issue the cameras were better than the competitors in my opinion.

Hello there, Johnny. Thanks for your feedback on the Nest Cam (battery). We’re sorry to hear about your experience with its connectivity and charging cable. We’ll pass this information to the right team as we’re constantly looking to improve the reliability, usability, and use of various features.

Meanwhile, a range issue or wireless interference can affect the overall performance of your camera. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the camera and your router as these items could block the connection. For more information, read Troubleshooting Wireless Interference here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9276282

Setup was easy and quick to integrate with then Google home app. I will not give a 5 because the Nest App will not support them and google has not yet integrated the two together to make it seamless. The cameras are top notch though and come with everything you need in the box.

Hi there, MattM. We're delighted to hear that you found it easy to set up your Nest Cam (Battery) using the Google Home app. We understand your disappointment regarding the inability to use the Nest app. Our aim was to create a unified experience within the Google Home app, allowing you to control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant.

Here are some benefits you can enjoy by using the Google Home app with your Nest camera:
      - Automatic security protections, such as Suspicious Activity Detection, 2-Step Verification, and Security Checkup.
      - Seamless integration of your Google Nest devices and services. For instance, if you have a Nest camera and a Nest Hub, you can simply say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera," and your camera stream will be casted to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Synchronization of your homes and home members across the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - If you're interested, you can set up your old Nest cameras on the Google Home app by following the instructions provided in this helpful article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

For any other support needs you may have regarding your Google Nest devices, our support team is available to assist you. Feel free to reach out to them using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

The Google Nest Cam is an absolute game-changer for home security! Its sleek design seamlessly blends into my living space while delivering impeccable video quality. The ease of setup and integration into the Google ecosystem is impressive. I love the mobile app, which allows me to check in on my home from anywhere. The two-way audio feature adds an extra layer of convenience and security. Whether it's monitoring my pets or keeping an eye on my front door, the Nest Cam provides peace of mind. The price is reasonable for the value it offers, making it a top-tier choice for anyone prioritizing home security.

Google Nest-Cam to Keep an Eye on my Home

Google Nest-Cam cameras are great for keeping an eye out on your home and surroundings. Because they’re rechargeable, there’s no need for wiring and they can be mounted anywhere. They connect to my Google Home app thru our wi-fi, so I can see everything from my cellphone and it lets me know when a person (or pet) is seen by the camera. Plus I use facial recognition in Google Home to let me know who it is. Great addition to my home!

Pros - - Easy to setup - Works out of the box Cons - Does NOT work with Nest Home App. You will need Google home app separately for this camera - Unless you purchase the power cable, the battery pack does not stay on all the time. Only when it detects motion (which is couple of seconds after the motion starts)

The Google Outdoor Camera offers reliable surveillance with crisp video quality. Its weather-resistant design ensures durability, while seamless integration with Google ecosystem enhances user experience. The intuitive app allows easy remote monitoring, and features like motion detection and two-way audio add to its functionality. However, a slightly higher price point might deter budget-conscious consumers. Overall, a solid choice for those invested in the Google ecosystem seeking a dependable outdoor security solution.

I’ve been using Nest for years. Way back to the beginning. It’s always been a solid performer and you get a lot of bang for your buck with the subscription. What I do not like as of the last couple of years is Google doing what Google does best and forcing migration into their app. This camera setup is part of Googles new push to force you the user into using their app. No longer can you use these new cameras with the very good Nest app. I avoided buying these new cameras for the sole purpose of not wanting to use Googles terrible Home app. But my Nest “Legacy” cameras started failing and you can no longer buy them so I really had no other choice if I wanted to continue to use Nest cameras. Other than the terrible Google app, the cameras still work just as good as the legacy cameras. Keep in mind they are all now battery powered, out of the box. And if you want immediate, live video access you are forced to buy an extra power cable for plug in. Classic Google money grab. Operationally wise, it’s still got Nest at its heart so I’ll continue to use them until Google does something totally unacceptable. If you’re reading this Google, fix your terrible app. It’s horrid.

Hi CaptStabbin, thanks for leaving feedback and for being a longtime Nest user. We’re sorry to learn of your disappointment with the functionality of the new Nest Cam (battery) in the Google Home app. The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. You’ll be able to view both your old and new Nest Cams together in the Home app, and we’re working on bringing the full functionality to the Home app so all your cameras can be controlled and set up in one place.

We're taking your feedback seriously as it helps us better understand our customers’ preferences and needs. And for any of your support needs, our dedicated team is always ready to help you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I used to be a huge fan until Google purchased nest and ruined one of the best solutions for homeapplications. These camera do a nice job but the battery life is terrible. The other issue with Googles approach of poor cloud services cause serious lag from the time an incedent / activity occurs to the time you get a live update. The notification are can lag by a minute at times.

Hi there, Getrusty. Sorry you’re having trouble with battery life and notification with the Nest Cam (Battery). Battery consumption will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:

Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here are a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

    Not A Long Battery Life

We currently have a wired camera system and has served us well for 6 years. Unfortunately, it's beginning to show it's age with a few malfunctions. Replacing the cameras with new ones is not an option; too old and out-of-date. So, in our search, I chose to purchase the Nest Cam Battery. The picture is great! However, the battery only lasts less than 3 weeks. It's placed at the front of our house, so it does capture quite a bit of activity. I'm sure it would be even more if we didn't live in a cul-de-sac and probably lower battery life. On the lighter side of this, you can purchase the optional power supply BUT you have to have an outlet nearby.

Hi 2DemandingKitties, thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry for the poor battery life with your Nest Cam (Battery).

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
      - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If you´re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. IL residents waste battery life without familiar face recognition. Convenient that can be charged manually rather that running power. However battery life only 3 weeks if trafficked area without friendly face detection which I assume would save battery life. Picture quality is good though rarely quite high res enough to get license plates of passing Cars

I added these to my nest outdoor cameras i already had. I dont like the google home app. I wish they would let you use the nest app. However the picture quality is fantastic. Day or night. The sound is ok. Motion detection is set for people only and i do get a lot of false alerts. I am still adjusting but it picks up shadows of cars or trees moving in the wind sometimes as a person. Still, it is great for the money. I have one plugged in and one on battery. Id expect the battery to last probably 60 days before needing to be charged. I plan on running a wire to it, just havent had time yet to drill into the wall. Overall i do recommend this for most applications.
