The camera works great. My only initial issue was getting it to connect/setup on the Google home app. It needed to be near another nest product to get connected. Thankfully, I already use the best thermostat, so I held it next to that and it finally connected. From there it was a breeze. The picture quality is great. Something to keep in mind, is that it doesn't have theft protection. So i highly recommend purchasing some theft protection to prevent anyone from walking up and and just taking your camera (its only magnetically held on). You will get notifications when people are spotted. My only complaint there is that there should be a "snooze" button for that alert. When my lawn guys come, it constantly will send me notifications while they're working. All in all, it does what it needs to do and I enjoy them.

I do feel like this is an upgrade over the previous Nest IQ cameras largely due to the on-device biometrics. It’s very impressive how quickly it can pick up a known face (almost instantly). In general, notifications come in again almost instantly vs. about 30 second to 1 minute with the old IQ cameras. The vehicle notifications are also very handy. Allows me to keep the motion alerts category of notifications off which provides a much quieter experience in terms of notifications. The video quality looks on par with the older IQ cameras. I’m using the cameras in wired power mode. The night visions seems slightly better than on the IQ cameras, but it’s very close. It is nice to see Nest release a battery camera which increases its versatility. I know everyone was hoping for a true 4K camera, but it’s just not feasible to have say 5 or 6 cameras all streaming 4K video to the cloud at the same time. We’ll get there eventually, but just not yet. Overall, a solid upgrade!

Do I love it? NO! Do I like it? Absolutely! I hate the fact that you have to use the Google Home app to view them. In addition, the battery does not really last that long as stated. However, the quality is awesome and the camera works as advertised.

Hi Ramon, we appreciate you taking the time to write this review. We're glad that your Nest Cam (battery) works as advertised, and are sorry to hear your poor experience with using the Google Home app, and the camera’s battery life.

We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We’re working on a seamless solution to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. Also, using Google Home app provides you with a lot of benefits including access to Google's trusted security platform and access to other Google tools. This means you get a simpler interface and a simpler way to connect all your devices into a single environment.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

If you still have to charge the battery more often than you’d like, you might want to consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

We can also check for other reasons why the battery life is less than expected. If you're willing to work with us, please get in touch with us through our available support channels found here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I set my expectations after reading the reviews about the cameras and I like them so far. I had the non battery ones before and I understand what everybody is complaining about, not being connected to the nest app and only working with the google home didn't feel like a deal breaker after all. you can always choose to only view your cameras on the google home app and see everything together without being disturbed by all the other smart devices connected to the app. Also being on Idle not a big issue since it will detect motion just as well as the old versions, it's a plus since it saves battery. quality can be changed if you don't like what it's defaulted to and I'm keeping them on high quality and they both capture clear videos. battery life is good so far, %94 after over two weeks. I wish they had two charging wires as everybody mentioned and for that I'm skipping one star but other than that I feel they're great google cameras for the price.

This is a HUGE upgrade from the last Camera system I installed at my house. Very easy to set up, Very easy to connect to my smart home, easy to install. I was worried about having a magnet only holding the camera in place but it makes it SOOOOO easy to adjust. I can view camera on nest hub or in google app on phone. It has a very clear picture, alerts me to anything near my home. I am hoping to get more soon

This camera is great. Easy to install, but the cable provided was SO SHORT! A longer one should be available. I had to spend another $40 for a proper plug, this the four stars. Also, this only works in the Google Home app. I wish it also worked in Nest app because I have two older cameras. Otherwise a great camera and great resolution. One other thing is when I go back through video, there is often gaps of when the video doesn’t record. I don’t know if it’s my internet or the camera. I wish it was continuous video though.

    Perfect fit for Google Home

First, we are a Google-centric home. Second, I read all the negative reviews of this camera and I was certainly ready to take it back if it did not meet my needs. Most of the really poor reviews were from former Nest camera (before Google) users. We do not fit into that category. This was our first outdoor security camera. It was easy to set up. However, I was a little taken aback by the requirement to install it between 6 and 6/1/2 feet from the ground. The good news is that this makes it easy to take down and recharge. The bad news anyone could easily reach it. The magnetic mount is very strong, and I am hoping would-be porch pirates will not know it can be pulled off its mount. It definitely took some time to figure out all the settings. The bad news was the amount of trial and error it took to get it set up the way I wanted it. The good news is the design of the settings allowed me to eventually set it up the way I wanted it. The other big complaint I read about in the reviews was the battery life. First, it is a trade off. I always intended to use this camera on battery power. Every few years when better models of security cameras are developed, I will be the replacing this one...easily! Second, I only need this camera to capture people...not cars, not animals...just people. Set up in that manner, the battery life has been quite satisfactory, going down only 1-2 percentage points a day. I can live with that! We live in a condo. It is a good neighborhood and our doors are quite visible, so I am not overly concerned about break-ins. However, I did want to know when packages were delivered so I could bring them in the house as soon as possible and avoid tempting any porch pirate. I did have to increase the sensitivity on this camera. One of our regular delivery guys is very quick and the camera only captured his back after he dropped off a package. But, it was good to know that change was needed. To sum up, after getting this camera set up just the way I wanted it, I purchased another one for our side door. I could not be happier I stayed with Google cameras for my Google-centric home.

Hi there mwsnelso, thanks for being a Google advocate and we´re glad that you had an easy time setting it up. We´re sorry to hear about your concerns with the security of your Nest Cam (Battery).

It's possible to place an anti-theft security mount for your Nest Cam (Battery) if you have concerns about it being stolen. Check out this link to learn more: https://store.google.com/us/product/wasserstein_anti_theft_mount

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
      - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

These are great cameras but they should have included the outdoor power cables. Battery life is ok but if it's in an active area, you need to have it powered. Video quality is good. App is... not great... but it works. It's sometimes very glitchy when trying to browse video history.

Nice Indoor/Outdoor cameras. Easy to install with flexible mounting options and plenty of accessories for various mounting ideas. I always run these cameras plugged-in. I never run them on battery mode. However, I'm sure they operate nicely as rechargeable units. Adding a Nest Aware subscription gives you recording and playback options with a basic subscription at $8 per month.

Box comes with everything needed for basic setup. Charging cable is on the short side in comparison to wired model. These are basically the former overpriced Nest IQ cameras newly rebranded. They're a good deal now at 1/4th of what they used to cost but heavily dependent on Google services. These WILL NOT work with the legacy Nest App and must be setup via the Google Home App; local home network MUST be online able to access Google servers — you cannot log on to them directly locally. These are essentially fully dependent on remote proprietary Google software and associated services so will likely become expensive paperweights (like Stadia Controllers) if Google ever suddenly feels like killing the 'Nest' service.

Hi MrPen, thanks for sharing your insights with us on Nest Cam (Battery). We're sorry to hear that the Google Nest ecosystem, including the Google Home app fell short of meeting your expectations.

Our goal for the launching of the new generation of Nest cameras is to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

If you´re willing to try, you may set up your older Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
