The camera itself is fine. The battery lasts me about a week. This version of nest camera utilizes the google home app, which isn’t the greatest. My older nest cams integrate with the nest app… this one does not. Kind of a disappointment.

Hi Tini, thanks for taking the time to write this review about the Nest Cam (battery). We’re sorry to hear of your disappointment with its battery life, and with its functionality in the Google Home app.

We understand that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We’re working on bringing full functionality to the Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users like you with previous versions of Nest cameras can view your camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

Your camera could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest camera is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately) that will keep the battery charged.

If you’re willing, we can help you check for other reasons why the battery needs to be recharged every week, so we can figure out a way to help improve your experience. We encourage you to contact us whenever you have time for further isolation and troubleshooting: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Bought this for a friend who was having anxiety over the security of her neighborhood. The camera was great, installed quick, and the free 3 hour video clips with facial recognition feature is enough for her at the moment.

Hey there, BasselA. Sorry to hear you didn’t experience great battery life on the Nest Cam (Battery).Battery consumption depends on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:

Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here’s a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

It’s Nest (or Google or whatever) but you know it’s going to be well executed. And it is. Works as expected - easily and simply. Works better with a power source but it’s good to have the option of the battery.

First, as a current owner of many nest products that i currently enjoy it is disappointing to know that the new nest cameras dont work on the nest app. This camera will only integrate with the google home app which I believe is an inferior app. Battery life is horrible. Just in the last hour it has lost 5% battery life. I dont understand how this is sustainable long term. This is 100% being returned. Google you can do better than this… Your new camera is garbage.

Hi there TacoGawd, thanks for sharing the details of your feedback. We're sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Google Home app and Nest Cam (Battery).

Our goal with the Google Home app was to make it the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Battery):
      - Automatic security protections, such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

If you´re willing to try, you may set up your Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. However, the battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery) can be affected by factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20-25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9-12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2-4 recorded events per day)

We're hoping you will still consider using Nest Cam (Battery). And if you're willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. I wish I stayed with Ring. Google nest cameras are junk. Even with excellent WiFi coverage in your house, these cameras sure do lose connection a lot. So much so that if you have an emergency where you need footage of a crime, especially one in progress, don’t count on these to give you 100% liveview without interruption. Don’t get me started on the nationwide complaint about the floodlight camera this last year having blurry video during night time- all because of a horrible update from Google- that issue took months on end to fix, and still isn’t near the clarity during day time use. You cannot opt out of updates as well. The features are limited if youre used to RING cameras. The dashboard needs a lot of work. Having to click 4 menus to change your area where you want the camera to catch movement is annoying- if you lose connection, you’re unable to change anything. Again, goes back to the horrible WiFi reception these have. I use 100% Google WiFi products, specifically their mesh system, and these cameras constantly drop live video feed, both in the dashboard and while viewing a camera individually

Hi there, Austin. We’re sorry to hear about your concerns with your Nest Cam (battery) and this is not the experience we want you to have. Your feedback is appreciated and we have taken note of it.

We recommend checking for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the cameras and your router as these items could block the connection. If you have a good Wi-Fi connection but the camera is offline, this can happen if the device gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these:

      - Your camera should not be exposed to direct sunlight
      - Avoid placing your camera near objects that can cause overheating like light bulbs, lamps, large equipment/appliances, air vents, etc. Your camera needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating.
      - If mounted outdoors, you can install it under an eave or overhang, or even install a small shade above it.

It's important to us that we provide you with the best help possible and identify the issues with connectivity. We recommend that you reach out to our support specialists at our Google Help Page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
