Hi Heather, we appreciate you for being a longtime Nest user and thanks for sharing a review about the Nest Cam (indoor, wired). We’re sorry to learn of your issues with the video quality, night vision, and with the incompatibility with the Nest app.

We chose to transition to the Home app because this app is designed for the future of the smart home, a single place to set up, manage, automate, and control your home. Most home devices are controlled across multiple apps, but we’re working on making the Google Home app the central controller across all your home devices, including Google devices and devices from other brands.

Here are some other benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam:
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Google Nest cameras’ night vision uses high-power infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the scene when it's dark. When night vision is set to Auto, Nest cameras wait to switch between normal and night modes only when the light gradually changes. For instance, at dusk or dawn, when the lighting is marginal. If there are any light sources in the area, your camera may be able to see even farther.

You can adjust your cameras’ video quality that may improve the resolution. The higher the video quality setting you choose, the sharper and more detailed your footage can be, but it also uses more of your internet bandwidth. This setting lets you pick the maximum video quality for your cameras. But whichever level you choose, your camera will automatically adjust its resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your doorbell. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. Which may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. If your doorbell is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.

Here are some steps that may also help:
- Plug your Nest camera into a different power outlet to rule out power issues.
- Turn off other devices connected to your WiFi to see if this is about network traffic.
- You can also try restarting your router to reset your internet connection. You should also restart any Wi-Fi range extenders or repeaters that you have.

Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired) comes with a 2-megapixel color sensor, with support for HDR and a resolution of up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames/sec. However, if you see a lesser video quality than what is prescribed, we recommend checking for possible congestion in your network, or that your bandwidth may not be sufficient. Removing some of your connected devices may help relieve some bandwidth space, and you may check if you still experience any drop with the video quality. Verifying congestion may require you to contact your Internet service provider to check your connection and upgrade it if needed.

Generally, closer is better so your camera can capture more detail. Night Vision relies on infrared LEDs to light the subjects in view. If you’re interested in keeping track of things at night, we recommend placing your camera close to the area of interest.

Motion detection on Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired) will trigger the recording feature, and this can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes moving. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
1. Change or set up the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
3. Restart your Camera.
