    Just Plain Garbage

I have many of these IQ cams, indoor and outdoor. I have had many problems with them. They will often go out. I mean the picture is just a bunch of horizontal lines. A very common issue if you search for this. I have had, now, two of the outdoor camera go bad. The first got replaced by nest, but I had to spend many hours outside my home uninstalling and reinstalling. Very expensive recording options. They now took away the API integration to my home automation software. They now force us to turn on an LED on our security camera when we are looking at a bad guy in our house. The familiar faces feature is disabled in Illinois. Again, complete garbage. I would either go with more top end cameras like panasonic or go cheap and use Wyze camera. I could replace many dozens of cameras with the enormous amount of money spent on this junk.

    Garbage

Since I migrated to google the app has been horrible, slow, clunky. Upgraded to this IQ hoping it would be better than the standard cam and it seems clearer during the day but the night is just as garbage as the standard cam, some jerkweed smashed my mailbox camera, pulled up the IQ to see what happened, showed a ghosty outline of someone hitting my camera and walking away, couldn’t see anything useable, so goodbye nest and google sucks, going to a CCTV system with no fee and a hard drive that google can’t touch. Overpriced and google completely ruined it, what else is new, I’m left with 600 bucks in cameras now......oh well I’ve learned, do yourself a favor and stay away from wireless cams, spend your money on a good system not this google imbedded garbage.

      Hi Discobob25,

Thanks for making us aware of your experience with the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. We're sorry for the disappointment you have of the Night Vision video quality, particularly at a time when you needed it to work as expected.

The video quality for the Night Vision feature on your Nest camera may be affected by internet speed and we recommend removing some of your connected devices to free up some bandwidth for your network. Once you verify there is congestion, then you may need to contact your Internet service provider for resolution.

Here are some steps as well that you can carry out to fix the issue:
      - Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints and dirt can cause poor image quality.
      - Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view.
      - Use the Nest app to zoom and enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be causing glare.
      - If you see a bright white shape along the edge while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
      - Move nearby objects that may be reflecting the infrared light.

If you will allow us, we'd like to delve deeper into the reason that may be causing the issue and be able to provide you with a better experience. You can always contact here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow Nest

This camera failed after less than a year of usage. Google did replace it, however it is no longer stocked by them so there are no longer any replacement options for this device.

I think Nest dropped the ball on this one, and I'm a huge Nest fan. This camera has a 4K sensor, but no 4K. In addition, the zoom/tracking feature doesn't take advantage of the 4K sensor when zooming in/following a subject, it merely digitally zooms in on the 1080 image. I'm really not sure why there is a 4K sensor on this camera. It's big. It's heavy. It is high quality and solid build. I just don't get it - The tracking feature could be so much better... It's so CHOPPY! Trust me, you will not be able to make out a person's face when it's tracking them...It's that bad. Overall, I kept it, but don't recommend this and recommend the lesser expensive outdoor Nest cam instead - Video quality is exactly the same (I have that too and have compared).

With a 4k sensor, 12x digital zoom + enhance, and High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) imaging, Nest Cam IQ is able to deliver detailed images in crystal clear 1080p, even in uneven lighting conditions. Nest Cam IQ will even show you a picture-in-picture view that includes the full 130° view and a close-up window that tracks people as they move. And thanks to Nest Cam IQ’s 4K sensor, the camera delivers high-quality images even when zoomed in. Nest

    Outdoor power limitation

Be sure to research if you're able to drill through your exterior walls in order to utilize an internal power outlet. Does not work with external power junction boxes.

      Hi Wallflower17,

Thank you for leaving a feedback regarding your experience. We're sorry to hear of the difficulties with providing power to your Nest Cam IQ Outdoor.

Nest cameras need to be plugged into a power outlet using the included cable and AC adapter. It plugs into a standard household outlet with an output of 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz for continuous video streaming and alerts.

If you have an external power outlet with required voltage, you don't need to drill into your wall to plug into an internal power outlet. Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, itself has an IP66 rating and can withstand dust, rain, and snow, but the AC adapter does need to be protected. As an alternative, you can look into weather-proofing options for an external power outlet such as getting a weatherproof cover.

How can we review it..it's NOT INSTALLED YET...Grayson Leder from the Fargo office sold it....and met with the electrician to determine where the outlets should be. When they were here to install it, the cameras didn't fit the outlets. Now, he wants to use an extension cord to fix the problem. We don't want a patch job....the electrician should come back and re-do it. He thinks that's our EXPENSE...NOT SO. We haven't heard from him....He doesn't return calls as he promises. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH BEST BUY....Get it fixed and do it right.

After about 48 days, these cameras say they are offline and not connected to my WiFi; however, I can see that they are connected and streaming data. I contacted Google support and they confirmed that the cameras are connected, spent almost 2 hours with Google support - no change. Google support said they will escalate to their engineers and get back to me in 24 hours. Well it’s now 4 days later and no follow-up. Please save your money and look for other cameras with better support.

Was so happy with all my google/nest set up until today. 4 months after purchasing the set of 2 nest cam iq outdoor one stopped working. They are sending a replacement, getting ahold of them was a breeze! After reading other reviews I hope my fate isn’t like theirs where they are in 3rd 4th replacements..... hope all my devises last me more than 4 months as much as I’ve invested. So sad to think you are purchasing top of the line to realize otherwise

I purchased the Nest Hello doorbell and it failed 4 months after the warranty expired. At the same time, I purchased 3 Nest IQ Cameras, 2 out of 3 failed and had to be returned to Google. Fortunately, those were under warranty. 3 out of 4 cameras failing within 16 months. You may want to consider the extended warranty or buy a different brand

Received my cameras through the window and the associate damaged the door panel of my vehicle as he pushed the 8 1/2 lb. box with sharp corners through my front passenger window. Best Buy and it's insurance company are now denying my claim stating nothing occurred. Bunch of thieves. Be wary. No responsibility whatsoever. You have lost me as a customer!

I run a Plume WiFi system. Due to this, I was unable to install these generation of Neat cam. I have a Nest Hello, two outdoor Nest cams and one indoor. When adding these devices, the app continually tries to use a buddy device to add the camera to your account. Evidently it fails on a Plume WiFi system. After several hours and help from Nest, I had to return.

Being an expensive and known brand, I'd expect the product to work without any issues. Unfortunately one camera stopped working. Best buy would not take it back to swap it out nor offer to help with getting it back to the manufacturer. I am very disappointed with Best Buy.
