Checking for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the cameras and your router can help, as these items could block the connection. If you have a good Wi-Fi connection but the doorbell is offline, this can happen if the device gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these:
- Your doorbell should not be exposed to direct sunlight
- Avoid placing your doorbell near objects that can cause overheating.
- The device needs good air circulation, and don’t install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating.

The video quality for the Night Vision feature on your Nest doorbell may be affected by internet speed. We recommend removing some of your connected devices to free up some bandwidth for your network. Once you verify there is congestion, then you may need to contact your Internet service provider for resolution,
Additionally, here are some helpful steps you can try out to improve the Night Vision feature:
- Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints and dirt can cause poor image quality.
- Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view.
- Use the Google Home app to zoom and enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be causing glare.
- If you see a bright white shape along the edge while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
- Move nearby objects that may be reflecting the infrared light.
- Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.

Quality doorbell and security video

I believe the Nest doorbell is superior to their leading competitors. The Nest also aligns well with other Nest products such as thermostats, Co2 devices and more. Although I preferred the Nest app (that I used before Google purchased Nest) far more than the Google Home app, the Google Home app is getting better. 30 day video history monitoring is availible for $60/year which is better than many of the other home security devices on the market.

The resolution is a bit of a downgrade on paper but barely noticeable. Definitely do not regret my purchase

The only downside is that the older generation had a wider viewing angle. This is moreso set up for portrait rather than landscape which limits how much of the front of your house is viewable.

I have a lot of other Nest products so it fit within the ecosystem seamlessly. The install was pretty straightforward. One word of caution. Check your doorbell transformer before buying! I didn't and found that the transformer I had was underpowered (6v I believe). So I had to go to Home Depot and pick up a new one and install that before I could use the camera. Setup was a breeze. Features are great. Picture quality is perfect. It's a great doorbell camera. And the color matches my outside wall perfectly!

The new doorbell looks great, however the video resolution is lower, and the video is portrait rather than the previous model being more landscape, so when i use my Nest displays to view the cameras the video is small with black bars on either side.
