Google facial recognition is super nice to tell me who came to my door, as well as recognizing when a package is dropped off or removed from my porch. It struggles a bit early on with differentiating faces of people with similar hair, but after a while it catches on. Super convenient that it integrates with my Nest Hub and Google Home Mini's. Facial recognition pictures can be pixelated at night and in low lighting, but overall very satisfied

Google seems to have fixed that issue with the design of this one. So right of the bat, the look is better then version one I think. I didn't really do a lot of research on the product before buying it though, I just thought it would be an "upgrade". Well I don't really love the change in camera view. The fish lens on the version one let me see my whole porch area. This really only shows the area in front of the door. It would be nice if you can change the view to a wide view. The camera is also kind of grainy, which was surprising to me. I set the settings to MAX for camera and all. It also changed from the nest app to the google home app. Kind of annoying since I built a nest camera ecosystem. That's fine, but I just never really liked the google home app for my cameras. I'd say this is a good buy if you are going to a doorbell camera from nothing, but changing from version one, you might not be happy with the updates.

Unlike some other video doorbells, Nest Doorbell (battery) has a 145° diagonal field of view at 3:4 aspect ratio. It means you can see people from head to toe, and packages left on the ground. Also, we’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing the camera videos using the Nest app or web app. However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. And you can view both your old and new Nest Cams together in the Home app.

Got this to replace our Ring doorbell so that all of our smart home devices could be controlled in the Google home app. The picture quality is GREAT and it was so easy to set up! I recommend purchasing the best aware to maximize the usefulness of this product.

We hear your concern about using the Google Home app. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

Not the best design

Owned for 3 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this doorbell Oct of 2023 .. at first I liked it but now it’s Jan of 2024 and it’s been a headache.. it was an easy install but every time my power goes out or I have to reset my WiFi the doorbell goes offline and I ave to unscrew it from the wall mount just to press the reset button, so it can reconnect… it’s annoying because I have to use the special Allen wrench, the notch is close to the wall where you can’t make a full turn so it’s a bunch of little turns to get the screw out to wiggle the doorbell out of place. Use something small to press the reset button, then put it all back together. I have the battery doorbell as well and I don’t have this problem, it’ll automatically connects when the Wi-Fi connects back.

I did buy an open box one, but it said it was excellent and was supposed to have all original items and original box, etc. It was missing the allen wrench tool that is critical at the final step. It was also missing the wire plug adapter piece to help allow the doorbell to sit flush against the wall....so I had to put spacers in to allow for the rigged wire connections to have room. Now I have to figure out how to fill the gap left around the doorbell. So good product, but bad experience ordering an open box item that was supposed to same as new essentially.

Some delay when trying to quickly access video and possibly speak with visitor. Chime does not work inside! Extremely frustrating!! Tried every fix and Google is impossible with whom to communicate and unresponsive! This is also a known issue to Google with the regulator disc. They should proactively offer a replacement!

Posted .Thanks for reaching out about your Nest Doorbell wired 2nd gen, DianaE. We hear your frustration regarding the issues with the chime. There’s a few things check to make sure everything is working properly — here’s what to review:
1. Check chime settings: If you have a mechanical chime (moving parts that make the sound), the chime duration option should be turned off. This setting is for electronic or digital chimes only.
2. Check doorbell wires: It's possible that a wire came loose when you put your doorbell on the backplate, or that the wires aren't tight enough. Make sure that the wires are securely connected.
3. Check chime connector: Check the chime box to ensure the Chime Connector and wires aren't touching any moving parts, which could muffle the sound.

The only downside to this is that the camera is not as wide as the old nest doorbell. Other than that it works just as good.
