Had some problems initially getting the camera to connect to our wi-fi, but once Spectrum replaced our 2-in-1 modem/router, all was resolved. We love this device!

Unlike the previous version, there's no Smart Device Management API access. That means you can't do anything with it outside of the Google ecosystem. You'll also suffer from limited features unless you purchase their cloud subscription. It's an ecosystem trap product.

No support for nest app. So now I need 2 apps to see my cameras . Only Google could make a nest camera that doesn't work in their nest app. Their old cameras don't fully work in the Google home app and their new cameras don't work in the nest app

Hi Redman, thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). We can imagine how having to use two different apps can be an inconvenience for you. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view the Nest camera feeds from the Nest app or web or web app. However, our priority is to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras, like you, can view your camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

We request for your patience as we’re working on a seamless solution to create a better user experience. Meanwhile, we suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view for cameras set up in the Google Home app. And if you need help with any concerns about the performance and functionality of the camera, You're always welcome to let us know here and we’ll gladly help you the best we can: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hello there, davidg. We appreciate your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear that using the Google Home app for the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) is less than ideal for you. We’re aware that longtime Nest users like you enjoy viewing the camera videos using the Nest app and web app. However, our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices along with Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras, like you, can view your camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

Hello, TyleneF. We appreciate you for trying the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen), and thanks for sharing your feedback with us about your experience. We can imagine how hard you tried, and we’re sorry to hear it didn’t go well for you.

The new Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) needs to be powered by wires delivering 16 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA (in North America) or 12 - 24 V AC and at least 8 VA (in Europe). While the Nest doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system, including doorbell wires, either doesn’t give enough power or gives too much power. In some homes, you may need to upgrade your transformer to meet the doorbell's higher power requirements. On the other hand, some doorbell systems are incompatible like a traditional doorbell system that uses very little power, so it’s important to make sure that the wires and transformer (power supply) meets the required amount of power so the doorbell can record videos.

We’re always here to help improve your experience. Please visit us at the following link for troubleshooting guidance and assistance: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
