Image doesn’t show who’s at the door
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The doorbell mostly just shows a wall. I mentioned it to the geek squad installer and he said it’s because I need to turn phone into landscape mode. I would expect a video doorbell to show me who’s at the door just opening the phone in regular portrait mode. The first image I attached is in portrait mide and shows someone at the door. But he is actually standing off to the side and you can’t see the person ringing the bell at all. The second image is in landscape mode and you can see there are actually 2 people at the door. The person in front of the door is shown in left side of the image, nearly cut out of the picture. In portrait mode the one in front of the door is not visible at all.

DON'T BUY IT
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DON'T DO IT! I've had this doorbell for a year and a half and it started peeling several months ago. It looks like its 10 years old. Google will not replace it. The only option that Google offered was for me to purchase another doorbell...who in the world wants to repurchase every year because of shoddy workmanship???

Excellent quality footage, very reliable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nest Hello doorbell is an excellent addition to any home to give you both convenience and some peace of mind. For the purpose of this review, I won't be discussing the details of installation. My recommendation is that you have a professional inspect and install your Nest Hello doorbell. Once you have the doorbell installed, it's functionality is much like other Nest products. I have the Nest smart thermostat, so I have already been using Nest with my phones, tablets, and other Google Assistant-enabled devices like my Google Home. While other smart video doorbells may have many advanced features, the Nest Hello wants to reduce the barrier-to-entry by making things easy to use—and it does that quite well. It's main function is to do the following: when someone appears at your doorstep and rings the doorbell, the Nest Hello will set off your home's chime (just like a normal doorbell), broadcast a notification to your configured devices with a screenshot of the person, and optionally broadcast a message over your Google Homes letting you know that somebody is at the door. If you subscribe to Nest Aware (of which you get a free 1-month trial), there are also other features you can enable such as 5, 10 or 30 day video history, 24/7 continuous recording, familiar face alerts, closeups on people, setting activity zones to "trigger" events, and sharing clips. Much of this can be configured from the Nest app for Android, iOS or Web. The image quality is superb. I have mine set to record 24/7 at 720p, and you can tell they chose a great image sensor. The lens is wide-angle, so it catches everything while remaining flush to the wall. That being said, Nest does include a wedge to angle your Nest Hello about 10 degrees, if you need it. During the day, I see the bright blue sky outside with what seems like HDR quality, as the sky looks amazing, and the bricks on my porch look quite detailed. The same can be said about people standing in front of the doorbell, as well. The video stream is not choppy, holding a steady, smooth frame rate. At night, the image quality will certainly take a loss due to poorer lighting conditions, but the Nest Hello does have proper night vision instead of relying purely on HDR like a cheap dash cam would. As a result, the image retains a lot of detail in the immediate space in front of the camera, but as objects get more distant, the image gets grainier. Regardless, I think this is some excellent image quality at night. Overall, the product works reliably and as intended. The biggest caveat being self-installation can be difficult for many, so having to pay for a professional to install it adds a higher cost on top of the expense for the Nest Hello. Despite this, I'd certainly give it a recommendation.

Stunning Video with Google Home Support
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded our home security cameras in 2018 from Drop Cam Pro to Nest Indoor IQ & Outdoor IQ Cameras with Facial Recognition & Familiar Face Alerts. I was thrilled to learn about "Hello", a smart doorbell with the same features when Nest announced it last Fall. It is even better than I had hoped! THE GREAT: 1- Ridiculously SHARP Image! Show this to your friends who own the "other" smart doorbell - and catch their mouth - open disbelief when they see the clear image without the delay! I attached an image captured from my front porch. 2- Facial Recognition works! 3- Familiar Face Alert works! 4- Beautiful integration with Google Home. When anyone presses the doorbell button, all Google Home devices announce "Someone is at the front door!", at the same time their photo appears on your cellphone. Once you enter the guest's name as a Familiar Face on the app, the doorbell will announce them by name at the door! "Hello" even announces the names of multiple guests. 5- Perfect Nest integration with all Nest Cameras. Even shares the Familiar Faces with the master library that includes all Nest IQ Outdoor & Indoor Cameras & pulls faces from that established library & vice versa. 6- Optional Aluminum 15 degree angled wedge allows you to point doorbell away from a wall. See my photos showing this in use & showing the resulting image. 7- Microphone is very sensitive & picks up whispers! 8- Best looking Smart Doorbell on the market. 9- Includes push-on quick connects to simplify installation. 10- Video compression is selectable with 4) settings, 800 to 2,000 Kbps of upload bandwidth. This is a huge benefit: select the highest quality / lowest compression for the best quality image if your WiFi can support the bandwidth. On the other extreme, select the low end (800 Kbps) to use less WiFi bandwidth - or 2 levels in between. Nest IQ Cameras share this great benefit. 11- Easy installation with YouTube Video & photos make this a fun and quick install, whether you have ever installed a doorbell before. 12- Masonry drill bit is included if you need to drill into brick or stone. 13- 1600 X 1200 DPI HD UXGA image, up to 30 Frames / Second, H.264 encoding & HDR. 14- Ultra wide 160 Degree diagonal field of view. Very wide, very high floor to ceiling to see packages on the porch, all clear with an 8X zoom. 15- Speaker quality is sharp and clear. It does not sound like a tin horn. 16- Narrower than most smart doorbells allows placement in tight quarters. Dimensions: 4.6" Tall X 1.7" W X 1.0" Deep. The 1.7" width was a big help for me. See my photos of the installation. 17- Works with any doorbell transformer measuring 10V to 24 V. 18- Brightest IR for Night Vision that really lights up a large area without the extreme red IR used by lesser cameras. These are 850nm infrared LED's, same as on Nest IQ Cameras. 850nm LEDs produce a very slight red glow when operating, which is visible to the human eye. 19- Other Nest products set up "Hello" doorbell for you! They literally do all of the Wi-Fi settings, even the password. It took about 30 seconds for another Nest product to set everything up! 20- The delay that has been an issue with other doorbells can be greatly reduced or even eliminated on "Hello". See point # 10 "Video Compression" in this review. The 4) selectable quality settings can be used to reduce bandwidth requirement, which greatly reduces the "spinning wheel" & makes the visitor pop up faster after a guest rings the doorbell. THE LESS THAN GREAT: Absolutely NONE!! Hello is a Great security & convenience appliance. CONCLUSION: Nest "Hello" raises the bar for Smart Doorbells to a level unattainable by any competitor today & earns my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

WAS good, now cracking and peeling
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well... but after less than 2 years, mine is cracking and peeling like many others. The U.S. warranty is only 1 year so they will not help you. At a minimum Google should be providing a free cover. This is an ugly defect, and customer support didn't answer whether it has been addressed in new product.

Too small to mount where old one was installed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Google Hello Wired doorbell and began the installation. After removing the wall plate of the original doorbell button, I saw that there was a large hole behind it with a metal plate with screw holes to attach the plate. The Hello doorbell mounting bracket was too small to reach any part of the wall. There is no plate included to adapt the doorbell in my situation. I advise you to verify what is behind the plate on your wall. Hopefully my photos will help you before you make the same mistake as me.

Terrible lag compared to other products on network
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First unit I bought stopped working within a month. New one works but lags behind by about 5 seconds which means someone could walk into my house and grab a water from the fridge before I’m notified. Considering my eufy security camera on the same network farther away from my router is able to send me notifications within a second after they happen. Will not buy a google home product again. App also logs me out frequently.

Another quality Nest product!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Hello Smart Wi-fi doorbell works very well. It's obviously a very specialized product, but if you're already part of the "googlesphere" and want to start adding 'Nest' products this one is pretty neat. Like many electronic devices these days there is an app download required in order to install and use the device. Once you have the Nest app installed, you simply scan the QR code and you'll be off and running (There is a back up manual code as well if your QR code reader is a bit testy). It can't be emphasized enough, but CHECK YOUR VOLTAGE before purchasing this item! A certain voltage range is required for this to operate properly. Most homes will fall into the range, but check ahead of time to avoid disappointment. The website for Nest will tell you exactly what you need. If you're super-handy this installation is an absolute breeze. Much of it depends on your existing wiring, of course, but if you have a somewhat newer house you should have no issues at all. From unpacking the box to install completion it took me roughly 20 minutes. I was extremely lucky in that my old doorbell holes perfectly aligned with the Nest Hello holes, so your mileage may vary. Expect it to take longer if you need to drill into brick or anything like that--Google actually includes a masonry drill bit, so that's really cool. I only needed a ladder and a Phillips screwdriver to install this system. That's how easy it can be. If you're not comfortable with DIY (and I urge you to watch a couple of youtube videos--it is VERY easy) google can put you in touch with a professional installer. The system itself is just cool. The app shows you a view of your front door any time you pull it up. It also sends your phone an alert when it "sees" someone within the camera range, even if they don't ring the doorbell. You can set it to record for a certain period of time (30 seconds is the default I believe) and save it to your account. You can pay an additional fee to save these recordings indefinitely (note: I did NOT do this, so I'm not entirely clear on those details, but they are available on the Nest website). The picture is EXTREMELY clear and very impressive. The audio is also very clear. If anyone does ring the doorbell it will record with or without audio depending on your settings. You can also program a speaking message to play automatically (which seems it opens up to so many hilarious possibilities...) whenever the doorbell is pushed. It connects through your wi-fi so it's always on and always "watching". It also has the ability to "recognize" people, so that it will stop sending alerts for them. It will ask when it sends you pictures of people if you want it to remember them. This seems to work very well, and ruled out my family members within just an appearance or two at the door. Overall this is definitely not something for everyone, but if you're in the market for a device like this and want to include your doorbell in the googlesphere of a connected home you can not go wrong with this device. It's especially cool if you've had issues with packages disappearing or vandalism, etc. This is another quality product from Google, and fits perfectly into the "Nest".

Good way to stay in the bed and answer the door.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great doorbell if you like smart devices. Will detect motion, sound, when packages are delivered. Will recognize faces and also has night vision. Easy hook up with existing doorbell. Can monitor your door view from anywhere. At home or at work. Will notify every time it detects anything. Can talk to people through the app and also tell them pretty much to go away lol. I do this with the neighbors kid. Just tell them no ones aloud to come to the door right now. Works every time for me. A little on the pricey side but I’ve caught my kids outside when there not supposed to be and fiqured our the cats get out. If you want security and knowing what’s going outside of your door then you need to purchase this product.

Nest Hello Video Doorbell - best on the market!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know how I survived without Google's Nest Hello Doorbell - what an amazing, yet simple, piece of technology! Other similar products are on the market, but this is the best I've seen so far. Fantastic HD video and sound quality, even night vision! Alerts are sent to your phone via the Nest app. Then you can check to see who's on your porch, and have a conversation with them via the app if you need to. Nest can be set to alert you to motion, sound or people. A monthly subscription is needed if you want the doorbell to recognize familiar faces, get package alerts, or monitor specific activity zones. The paid service also let's you store video for up to 60 days. Otherwise it only holds the info for three hours. The Nest Video Doorbell is usually about $50 more for the wired version, but it beats having to take down and recharge the battery version all the time. And it accesses the wall chime, while the battery powered model can not. Installation is fairly simple, but you will need to know where to find your doorbell transformer. Older homes may only have a 10V transformer. In this case you will need to upgrade to a 16V-24V transformer, which will provide enough electricity to power your Nest doorbell. I installed mine last winter and can tell you it was a fantastic investment in home security, deliveries, helping my daughter when she locked herself out, knowing when friends arrived early for card night, and scaring the daylights out of neighbor kids pulling the doorbell ring-and-run prank!

Best Video Doorbell on the Market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have quite a few nest products, and I am always amazed at how well they work together. I bought the Nest Hello to replace a Ring doorbell that was installed on my house when I moved in. Setup took about 20 minutes, after turning off the doorbell transformer power and hooking up the wires. I appreciate that nest includes an angled bracket in the box, as our doorbell is able to cover more of the porch this way. Setup with the Nest app was simple (make sure you grab the QR setup code or the setup code off the device before mounting it). Once setup and connected to your home network, you can set up video quality, motion zones and alerts, familiar faces, and more. My favorite smart feature of this doorbell is that it syncs up with any google home devices in your house to use them as doorbell chimes, or even live views of who is at the door. Nest is also one of the only devices on the market that is constantly recording, which means that you can rest assured knowing that you did not miss anything because a recording event was not triggered. I know many people with Ring devices that missed out on an event because of that very reason. Video quality is excellent both during the day, and at night, mostly due to how well Nest handles HDR video. (see pictures for daytime vs nighttime) The speaker on the device is decent, as is the microphone. If you need to talk to someone over the Nest Hello, there is a slight delay in the audio, but it is managable.

Like It After One Day
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works as advertised. Video quality really good. Fits right in with my other Nest devices. Installation was pretty straight forward; did NOT need a pro (and I'm really a DIY hack at best). Hardest thing was locating the transformer to confirm the voltage. I had to unscrew and pull off my chime box from the wall and it was hiding behind it - and resembled the image in the online compatibility checker. After reviewing the steps online, I switched to *Add Product* on my iPhone and it walked me right through it. One challenge was the installer used my Nest Protect to help configure the doorbell; the Protect is in the back near my bedroom - and the doorbell is basically at the other end of the house. It took some walking back and forth to get it right because of the WiFi signal. The iPhone installer *did not* require my WiFi P/W because I already had a Nest account in place. My only regret is there's no simple way to adjust the top/bottom angle. I would prefer it aim more at the porch steps vs the porch rafters (see attachment). I'm thinking I can remove it and add washers to the top install screw to angle it down a bit... Caveat: my doorbell chime and my cable router/modem are on the same circuit breaker; after installation, I had to wait for the WiFi to come up before I could finalize the doorbell installation.

Very Happy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation was straight forward and took about 30 minutes. I have never messed with a door bell before, but the instructions in the app were very clear. I was a little annoyed by the repeated advertisement to purchase installation from a “Nest Pro.” After installation I tested the doorbell and it used my Google Home and Google Home Mini’s to announce throughout the house that “Somebody is at the door.” I had each person in my house ring the door bell and used the app to add their names to the facial detection. After setting that up, the Google Homes announced who is at the door (“Joe and Bill are at the door.”), even if there is more than one person. From my testing the facial recognition works surprisingly well, even recognizing my eight-month-old daughter when my wife rang the door bell while holding her. In addition to the verbal announcements, I also received a notification on my Android phone letting me know who was at the door and was provided a link to the Nest app to interact with the “visitor.” The notification also gives options for canned responses to the visitor. When one of these are selected, a voice similar (it may actually be the same) as the Google Assistant voice relays the message to the visitor at the door. For example, “Hi there! You can just leave it. Thanks!” or “Just a sec... we'll be right there.” Overall, I am very happy with the doorbell. I wish Nest would calm down a little bit the “Nest Pro Installation” and the “Nest Aware” advertisements, but the former is only during installation and the latter is easy to block with an ad blocker.

Good picture but runs a little warm
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought Nest Doorbell and Nest Video Camera together. Installed doorbell easily but camera wouldn't install if doorbell was there - had to uninstall doorbell, install camera, then install doorbell after camera was working. Apparently there is an order to installing some Nest products. Also, you must have a good WiFi signal at the location you are installing the doorbell or it will not work. The doorbell replaced our old digital doorbell with no problem, however I had to increase the chime duration in settings for our doorbell to 'ding-dong' correctly (no problem). The picture quality is excellent and the motion, sound and people detection and alerts all work well. The night vision picture is quite clear and works well. We get alerts on our phone when we're away from home within a few seconds of the event and can talk to the visitor with minimal time delay. Two slightly negative issues: The doorbell is always very warm to the touch - apparently that is normal. Also, if you connect to the doorbell without it sending an alert it can sometimes (not always) take a while (10-30 seconds) to get live video but it eventually connects and all is fine after that.

Excellent doorbell security camera with Nest
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been an absolutely incredible doorbell camera. The price was excellent insulation was extremely easy I didn't need to have anyone do it for me and it integrated flawlessly with my Google Nest home system. I personally modified the system to run on a battery backup in case you lost power but that you don't need to do. I would highly recommend this product if you're looking for a doorbell security system and you already have the Google ecosystem. To make full use of this camera you have to have a Google Nest subscription but you pay for per month but it's a limited recording at Full Resolution which is 1080P and 30 frames per second

Excellent Doorbell
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera was extremely simple to set up. The hardest part of setup was climbing through the hot attic to find the old doorbell. I also could not find where the power to the doorbell was fed from so I did all the wiring with power on. Ties in nicely with the nest thermostat and using the app made setup simple. Take a picture of the qr code on the doorbell and the app walks you through the setup. Camera quality is great although there is a fisheye kind of view. The familiar faces feature is nice and lets you know who is there after it learns each persons face. If someone rings the bell the google home mini will even announce who’s at the door if their face is recognized. My neighbor has the ring and this camera is hands down a way better camera than his. Just buy it if you want a doorbell camera you will not regret it.

Myriad of reasons why this is the best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nest Hello doorbell is very similar to compete video doorbells on the market. In order to really be a factor for consumers, its going to have to be clearly better than anything else out there. This is clearly better than anything out there. First of all, it looks great. I love how much it looks like a doorbell, and not a giant camera mounted where your doorbell should be. The lines are very clean. The camera itself produces higher quality video than any of the competitors at more than 1080/FHD. It shows to as the images that it provides are crystal clear. It also performs exceptionally well in low light conditions. I can see 30 - 50 feet away from the door using only the IR lights and all the way to the street with my main door lights on (they're about 20 feet away from the entryway I mounted the doorbell). If you haven't used a Nest product before, know that the Nest ecosystem is amazing. Nest is by far the best Android app I've seen as far as design and "just working" I have had issues in the past with the Nest website on a computer but the Android app is amazing, and this product features even greater customization than the Nest cameras if you're familiar with those. The Google Assistance integration is nice, I like that every Google Assistance device can be an additional door chime for me. Where things get cool is with the integrated facial recognition technology, so you can start your own database of known faces and let your doorbell announce for you who is waiting. I personally didn't opt to use the feature, but I can see how useful it would be. And if you have the Aware account to store video its included as part of that. The one relatively minor complaint I had is that the doorbell does not include a mounting bracket adapter for installation against vinyl siding. As a result I have about a 10 degree tilt to the doorbell, which looks a little funny since I do have the 15 degree swivel mounted so the video feed is centered in the portico. I will plan on placing a block cut-out in the siding and remounting in the spring. I found the installation pretty straightforward. The additional component that installs to the chime was a little bit of a hindrance, but no big deal overall.

A Decent Entry-Level Outdoor Camera
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been in the Nest ecosystem for a few months with their thermostat, and wanted to add the camera. While I did not need to replace my doorbell mechanism, the package deal offered for the Hello made it a better option compared to the stand-alone security cameras. Since it is powered through the doorbell wiring, it also simplified installation. I am also reviewing this before ending my Nest Aware free trial, and after only a few days, so this may be tainted a bit. I am trying to make sure I do not use any Aware features such as zones or familiar faces, but could be surprised next month if certain features disappear. Setup was relatively easy, and I did not hire a pro. My house is less than 15 years old, so it has a relatively modern doorbell system. A couple of screwdrivers were necessary (a Philips for the Nest Hello, and Flathead for my old doorbell because of course); and a flashlight helped since I could not see the transformer rating on the chime device because the raised plastic text was tiny. Once I figured out which circuit my doorbell was on, I spent more time going up and down the step ladder to read each step than was necessary to perform the actual work. Connecting the doorbell camera to my WiFi took a couple of tries before it was stable enough to stream, but once complete I have not seen any issues. I can stream the camera to a computer, my phone, and my TV through Chromecast, which is a bit addicting. As with any notification system, false positives can be annoying. I initially had the system setup to pick up sounds, but that reacted to too many things. Motion notifications also picked up every car that drove by at night. While Person notification tells me I came home, it did pick up a delivery to my house that I was able to review remotely. By the time I received the notification, the person was already gone, but he never rang the doorbell and just stayed long enough to drop off a package. I was able to view the clip of the delivery, though without the Nest Aware I do not believe I can save the video. I also started setting up zones, then realized that without the service those zones would disappear. Overall, the equipment seems to work well, but as lots have mentioned I cannot justify the cost of the subscription service. While I recognize that having free storage of recorded video is not necessarily realistic, when I am streaming the information to my phone or computer I would like to be able to press a record button and store the live-streamed video locally. I see that as a basic service that would facilitate security without taking away from a paid service such as video storage.
