    It's great when it works. All of a sudden one of our three thermostats stopped connecting to wi-fi within a year of installing. NEST knows that this is a known issue with the Wi-fi chip. https://www.engadget.com/google-replace-nest-w5-wifi-error-070131820.html. Best Buy online won't do anything by phone. You have to talk to the store directly, so it is not easy to deal with. I've been on hold and it's not easy to navigate. I've also been told to contact NEST directly.

    Frozen Pipes - STAY AWAY FROM NEST

    This thing is terrible. I left my house for two days during the coldest days of the 2023 winter. This "smart" device apparently thought it would shut the heat off completely for some reason. Returned to find my house in the low 40's!! It was so cold, the pipes froze in the basement. Every traditional mercury and digital thermostat I have ever used, never let the temperature below 55. So how could a so called "smart" device let that happen. Now, the latest issue is that the display won't come on no matter what I try. Also the "learning" part of the unit is awful. It could not figure out what temps we preferred. It also kept thinking we were not home and would lower the temp for no reason. I've had it for 6 months. It's not a user error either. I work in technology for 30 years and have owned many properties and therefore worked on furnaces, boilers, and thermostats. Never seen anything so bad in all my life. This thing is junk.

    Think you want to save money then guess again. Even though this is the 3rd Generation line it still has major flaws. It is costing me OVER $500 to get this installed. even though my a/c unit is only 2 years old they say that the NEST, because it steals power to charge its internal battery, needs another power source. Like the 5 wires in the thermostat aren't enough already. You have to pay for an a/c guy to prove its not your system having issues. Then get him or an electrician to run another wire to power the NEST. Guess again. Save your money! Because the Nest will not ever pay for itself. Not to mention the hours on the phone with their tech support. Poor Poor Poor and a waste of time. Not to mention a bloody hot house in Florida!!!! I will be returning to BB for a refund!

    I am not happy about the installation. I have had a service person here twice to correctly set the device and it is still not right. I have one of the same brand in another home that can be set to my needs.I do not want the device overriding what I set it to. No one seems to know how to do that from the Geek Squad.

    I have two separate systems. AC and a boiler heating system. This thermostat did not work on my AC. The AC would start up then shut off. Had to pay person to install, uninstall and put in old thermostat and couldn’t return the thermostat. This purchase was an expensive mistake

    Beautiful piece of tech. The Nest website and customer service projected that my current thermostat was compatible based on the photo I submitted to and requested by Nest. Bought the Nest; installed it; NOT compatible. The Nest customer service rep could only suggest that I pay a tech to fix my compatibility issue. Not likely after already investing $250 on a new Nest. Very helpful that Best Buy was gracious about the return. For this reason, I will buy an Apple iPad from Best Buy.

    Warranty Support from Google/Nest is very poor. Very difficult to get a simple warranty issue taken care of. I like the product, I own 6 of them but the support is poor and difficult. In my case the Nest Thermostat will not stay connected to the base plate due to a faulty design or parts in how it stay connected to the base plate. The Nest is kind of top heavy and the connection is at the bottom so when you press on it when needed for programming or changes it pops off the base plate. This is the first I have owned to do that. All I asked for when I talked to support is a replacement while it is still under warranty. I have 1 year left on the warranty and all I get is the run around from their support. I am not happy right now so it looks like I will just go buy another and return the one that does not work back to the store. It is a simple warranty issue. The last thing I want to do is install another one, I would just prefer to have it work like it suppose to.

    Screen issue

    The technology is great, however the screen on the unit stopped working. It is still usable via the app, which is nice if there is a screen issue. Best Buy is resolving by replacing the unit.
