This has built in battery that requires charging when low. Get Ecobee 4 instead! no need to recharge battery and skip out on C wiring .

Additionally, the Nest is designed to charge its internal battery off of the existing HVAC wires without a C wire, so if you're experiencing battery drain issues, then there may be something else causing that to occur. My wife and I are looking to lower our monthly costs, so we did some research and found that this unit will eventually pay for itself and THEN some, with the power bill savings. Installation was a breeze. I am definitely not an electrician, just an average guy, and I had it installed in probably 15-20 minutes. The electric box plate came in handy, and the included mounting plate looks so nice on our wall, we may not even paint it. The setup was easy, I linked it with our WiFi and then downloaded the app on my phone. After syncing my phone with the thermostat, I can adjust the house temperature from anywhere! This is really nice because there are 3 of us who live in the house, but 1 of us has really odd working hours which vary from day to day. It was always impossible to set a regular schedule on the thermostat and save energy costs. But now, as soon as I know everybody is out of the house I can use my phone to bring the heat down in the winter and start raking in those savings. Then when I'm on my way home in the evening, I can turn the heat up so my house is warm upon my arrival. You can set a minimum low temperature and a maximum high temperature, and the system will automatically switch back and forth between heat and Air Conditioning, to maintain your target temperature. This is handy on those fall days where the temperature is kinda cool but the sun warms your house above the usual temperature. So far I am very impressed with this product. It's aesthetically pleasing and modern-looking. The controls are simple...rotate the dial, and press the face until it clicks. The unit itself even saves energy by turning off the display when you're not in the room, or not moving. The motion sensor turns the display back on as you approach the unit. I highly recommend buying this.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i have a working traditional thermostat, i figured i would upgrade to potentially save. i installed and it worked. then i turned it off but instead of stopping, it kept raising the temperature. then researched online to figure out settings then it got to almost 90 degrees when i called customer service and without hesitation, the guy said "it's your system that is broken". i told him that my system wasn't broken 30 mins ago before i installed nest and he said it's your heating system. offered no troubleshooting help just kept saying it's my heating system. i ripped out nest and installed back my basic thermostat and it worked instantly. worst purchase made and worst customer service

Good for managing climate

Google knows of the issue, and working with customer service is a nightmare. This is our 4th replacement thermostat in 8 months. When it works, the integration to our house network is seamless. But COME ON.

Kept saying it wasn't charging even after talking with support, ensuring wiring was correct, and paying for an electrician to check the system. Also, in the event of power outage this doesn't have a battery source backup.

The wires were setup exactly how nest asked to put them, but it wasn't working. I did the whole process, it wasn't cooling at all, so i removed and put back my previous Thermostat.
