    Once you figure out how to hook it up the item works really nice. Defaults to heat pump and the directions are terrible. Ended up calling support but after that I was good to go

    Not sure what the hardware differences are between the various generations, and I bought this thinking the color/finish would be consistent w the black of prior generations. It is NOT, the newest gen thermostat looks more gunmetal-ish than pure black...ended up having to buy 2 of these just so I can have the same finish for upstairs and downstairs.

    This was easy to install and looks very nice on my wall. I've been hesitating about buying "smart" ANYTHING for my home over security issues and "The Internet of Things." But Nest has stated that they have the same concern and are continuously working to keep their products secure.

    I bought 4 of these for our large house. Installation and setup was pretty easy (I'm an engineer) and they work very well. I did have a problem with one unit that I haven't yet resolved. It sees my local WiFi and is logged into it, but will not communicate with the app on my iPhone even the the other three work well. I'm out-of-state for some of the holidays and I can see the temps on 3 of the 4, and they all went into Eco mode automatically, lowering the temperatures to save energy. Probably because the motion sensors don't sense anyone there.
