Paid pro to come and troubleshoot. Verdict: it’s junk and google/nest won’t stand behind their product. Lots of similar experiences out there if you do your research.

It turns out there are 2% of homes in the south that this thermostat is not compatible with, but their compatability checker will not catch it.

This thermostat lasted less than two years, before its internally-rechargeable battery became so weak that the device could no longer connect to WiFi. NOT recommended. I did just buy a second one, but only because we are experiencing this Christmas week 2022 arctic blast, making it necessary to act quickly.

It behaves erratically as far as the próx sensor is concerned forcing me to touch it. The learning portion is also not really reliable and so far the notion that you don’t have to lift a finger is false advertisement.

We put it up - and we swear to GOD it was insanely inconsistent with doing it's only job - keeping the house warm! Read up on it - it saps power from your boiler - and really needs a dedicated power line to run. If you don't have that - don't buy it!

Not capable of sending alerts of any kind. Limited capabilities. I will return mine if possible and get a Honeywell to pair up with a Smart Things hub. All types of alerts are available... and can be programmed easily.

This results in the AC compressor to come on every 5 minutes or so. This will result in excessive wear and tear on the system. Nest needs to come up with a better way to get its power.
