Sleek, stylish, available in multiple colors, and works flawlessly... what else can you ask for? Been using two Nest Gen 1 Thermostats since they were introduced, so when we purchased a new home, we naturally went with another Nest. Easy setup / installation and the new room sensors work like a dream. Highly recommended.

I bought my first house this year, it was originally built in 1949 and still had what was probably the original mercury-bulb analog thermostat installed. I was nervous about whether or not something as advanced as a Nest (or any other programmable thermostat) would even be able to work on this system because of how dated it was. I read several online reviews and even watched a few Youtube videos on how the Nest itself worked and how the install went. To my pleasant surprise, the install was incredibly simple--took about 15 minutes and the Nest packaging came with a universal screwdriver (which I've used since) as well as labels for wiring.
I've had the thermostat now for about a month, and it's pretty much learned when I'm home and away for work. I don't know how much the thermostat saves me on my energy bill because it was one of the first things I replaced before I even moved in.
The only con is the price tag. $250 is a lot for a thermostat. But I got an energy rebate from my electrical utility, which helped a little bit, and I'm sure the cost will make up for itself in the long run. It's definitely a great-get.

Excellent installation instructions. Everything you need except the tools.
Looks great and easy to use. Very well designed. I'm not sure I believe all the hype about how much energy costs you save - after all it's just a programmable thermostat that happens to be capable of remote programability. Time will tell...

I’m a bit disappointed. We’ve been through 2 of these now. Not only are they pricey in themselves but us having to pay an hvac guy to come out and figure out why our stuff isn’t working properly only to be told the thermostat is bad. 1st time, ok it happens but 2nd time now! We just got it in March 2022 and it’s bad after 9 months this time. Don’t waste your money on this one.

I recently just moved into my first home and I am doing a ton of renovations. My Heating interface was the last of my worries but someone suggested I look into the nest. Well, with that said I LOVE the Nest. Not only was it super easy to install, and I am not handy by any means, it literally took 10 minutes if that..... The app that goes with the nest is user friendly and I am very happy with my product and purchase. I even just submitted for a rebate through my electric company. I love the sleek black design of the nest as well, it really gives a modern day smart home that extra eye catching detail.

I've wanted a Nest for years now, but finally own my own home to put it in. Having never installed a thermostat before, I did exactly what you shouldn't do...I disconnected all of the wires before noting their location on the old thermostat.
In spite of this critical error, using the Nest instructions, the basic configuration seemed consistent with my wiring, and I connected everything, put on the faceplace and fired it up.
The Nest walks you through all of the steps you need to be more efficient. It notes weather patterns in your area, it senses the type of system you have, it configures home and away times. It turns out that I had wired my system for a heat pump, something I do not have. It noticed this right away, and after one more switch-off of the breaker, I had all of the wires in the right place.
Since having the Nest, I've noticed that the home temperature is very consistent. The Airwave (cooling function shutoff) feature is very effective and the house is always within our specifications.
I've only turned the dial on the Nest once in the past week since it was installed. And of course, I changed the temperature up and down on my mobile phone, just for fun.
We haven't gotten into heat season yet, but I have a feeling with the up and down temperatures here in Colorado, that the nest is really going to help. No more switching back and forth from hot to cool throughout the day. Just set it, and let the temperature determine the function.
Oh, and it looks just as awesome as I predicted it would on the wall. We used the mounting plate to cover up the previous thermostat holes. I've seen others at friends houses that did not have such plates (Gen 2), and the holes, no matter how well you patch, were still obvious.
