I had hoped to control via an average temperature (remote and main thermostat). It appears that it will control from main thermostat or remote thermostat(which can be scheduled) but not an average of both, simultaneously.

You are correct in how the Nest Temperature Sensors work in conjunction with the Nest Learning Thermostat. You can set a schedule for your thermostat to utilize different sensors at different times of the day. Although you can attach up to 6 sensors per thermostat, the thermostat can only use one sensor at a time. With Nest Temperature Sensors, you have the flexibility to choose which room in your house is the most important or set a schedule for your thermostat to use different sensors at different times. You can select which temperature sensor to use in the Morning, Midday, Evening, and Night periods for each thermostat. However, please note that setting different rooms to different temperatures simultaneously would require a zoned system or special vents installed in your home.

I bought the extra thermostat sensors (3 of them) and placed them around the house. I set the app up to prioritize the Living Room thermostat during the day and my 1 year old's room at night. My goal was to keep the important rooms around 69 degrees all day. The closest setting I can use to accomplish this goal is Heat & Cool mode @ 67-70. Guess what... The dang thing kicks heat on at ~66.5 degrees and cool air at ~70.5 degrees. That is way cold and way warm in our house. To make matters worse, I gave it a moving target by changing the priority room once a day. Add in the 1-2 degrees that our son's sensor is off by and you get a useless set of electronics. I simply wish to keep my son's room warm enough at night and the living room cool enough throughout the day. Ideally, I could say keep ALL rooms at 68-69 degrees ALL day, but these products don't let me. So why 3 stars, because it's pretty awesome beyond that. I just wish I could set this thing up and never look at it again. Until they make the add on sensors more accurate, enable "keep all rooms above/below X degrees" and reduce the minimum temp spread in heat-cool mode to 1 degree, I will have to tinker with it 3 times a day, which isn't ideal.
