I didn't really get to compare this vs the 2nd generation but just like all newer things, it has some upgraded chips I'm sure. Outside of the hardware, this is really great. We get to control the thermostat from our cell phones. Multiple cells. Also the eco feature is awesome. When you're it hoe just set to Evo me it will turn up/down temp to your desired temperature. It was a great buy as well because our local electric company was giving rebates for upgrading to a smart thermostat. Make sure to check their website to see if they offer such rates. With the rebates from electric company I will in return get over half the cost of it. It was a win win situation for us.

my third purchase of this, works great have to fine tune configs to your liking before getting used to but not a bad thing it's just how it's designed to learn your temperature trends. at times we'll find the heat goes off when we turned on but this was because of the auto scheduling it builds after the first week so after this time you can turn off scheduling and it will work manually to your control. again not a bad thing just how it's designed to work. I have 2 separate zones in my home and use one app to manage both.

Fantastic device! Easy to install and easy to set up daily schedules. Feel to hot or cold? No need to get up. Just open the app on your phone and adjust from the comfort of your couch.

This is my second nest thermostat. I recently added a new furnace with zones and alternate heat and cooling and this thermostat works well. I love having all my zones side by side on my phone. So far I’m satisfied.

Was a very easy setup and to have it start to work. the energy reports that I get every month help. went on a trip was able to turn the heat up right before we got home. to a warm house.

For my dad for Christmas. I haven’t used it yet but from what was explained to me it seems really easy to use.

Having control from your phone has to be the greatest thing you can do for your household heating and cooling. I love being able to monitor how much energy I’m using. pays for itself with energy savings in a short span of time. A must have!

I was looking forward to using the Nest but my new HVAC equipment was not compatible. Make sure you check before opening the box. The instructions are on the outside of the box. Their customer service online was excellent.

We purchased our next with gift money! We then turned around and got an energy rebate of $100. The app functionality of it is amazing and being able to compare each day the usage is priceless! Best money spent and look forward to seeing the savings! We would love now to purchase more Nest products.

The unit is great and easy to use. The installation required some technical support because the instructions were not clear.

This thermostat was really easy to set up and use. Works with my other smart devices in home. Must have a smart phone and a wireless network to take advantage of all of it's features.

No wonder it is told smart learning thermostat bcuz that's what it does. It learns & adapts to your likes with environment to automate. Bought 2 of these on Black Friday as i have 2 level HVAC. Highly satisfied with this product and recommend to everybody. Get it when it's on a good deal.

This is best product I have ever seen. Very user friendly. I can change it from my bedroom upstairs.

I've only had this device for a few weeks and I feel great about it's potential. The first bar graph report I received indicated a energy savings in excess of my expectations. If this keeps up, and there is no reason to expect less, I'll save enough to buy a Nest camera for added smart home value.

If I could give this piece of junk less than one star I would. I bought two Nest Learning Thermostats, one for each floor of my house. I set the first one up and the app kept freezing on the same page. After contacting customer support their answer was to uninstall, reset to factory settings, reinstall and if it happens again let the app freeze and wait 10 minutes. That did work, and I had the same problem installing the second thermostat. They worked ok for the first two weeks and then the first thermostat failed. It was a really hot day, and I had the cool cycle going. But I noticed it was getting gradually warmer, not cooler. So I check the thermostat which said “72” in bold numbers, but when I checked the app is said it was 80 in the house. So I tried to turn the thermostat down by one degree, and it said it would take 2+ hours to cool. I went to the Google website and it said this happens when the battery dies, but this model doesn’t have a battery. So I called the support and they said it’s probably the AC compressor. But it wasn’t because the thermostat on the other floor was cooling. So they claimed it was the wiring. So I swapped the thermostats (moved the bottom floor to the top floor and vice versa), but that caused the second one to fail too. Now they both said it would take 2+ hours to cool by 1 degree. The support desk person said I should return them, but BestBuys’s return policy is 15 days, and I was 5 days over. I just pulled them down and reinstalled my old thermostats and the AC works perfectly. Don’t buy these crappy pieces of junk.

The Nest is easy to install and easy to use. Being able to set or change the temperature when I'm not home is great.

It learns fast, it sets it self after, then you get to enjoy a life of a lower cooling bill and not having to get out of bed at night when your hot to turn the ac down. And also my favorite feature of cooling the house down when heading home from work so I arrived in a nicely chilled home.

This was the best choice I made when making home improvements! I saved a ton of money this past winter!! If you're on the fence, you won't regret this choice. You can control it via the device, your cell and even google home. I love my nest!!
