Great thermostat, easy to use with a zero learning curve. Ties into google home app and work with both android and apple devices. The temperature sensor that comes with it helps monitor the temperature and you can buy more and put one in every room.

Upgraded from the Nest Gen 3 Learning Thermostat that I bought when it released like 9 years ago. It was great and I never had any issues with it. When I saw this one was being released it was a no brainer for me to upgrade day 1. So far I love it. The thermostat looks great, much better screen. Works with the Google Home app which so far has been flawless. I also love that it came with a Nest Sensor to place somewhere in your home to help even out the temperatures. If you’re buying your first smart thermostat or upgrading from an older one, don’t hesitate.

Third home that I've installed NEST thermostats in. I find them very easy to install and the ability to remotely control them is phenominal. I like the sleek new appearance of the new 4th gen ones, too.

Early Adopter Review

My biggest complaints about this device is the software which if this device is updated for 7 years like the Gen 3 was, this is all very fixable.
Hardware: I am disappointed that I just could not pop off my Gen 3 next and pop on the 4th Gen. The engagement bases were slightly different for most likely good reasons but never-less the installation could have been better if the original base was the same. The label stickers easily fell off. Two fell off during the install and I needed to look up wire configs online to make sure I had them right. Once installed, the base did feel very secured. I did not use the white base plate. Google was smart to include the 2nd gen Temp sensor module. If it wasn't included, I would not have purchased one separately. Now I am thinking about getting 2 or 3 more because the 4th Gen Nest has the ability to average all of the sensors to provide a more even temp feel throughout the house. The gen 4 does better job of learning our house temp schedule better than gen 3.
Software: During initial set up the software asks if the user wants to take a photo of the current wiring connections to be referenced later during install. I did take the photo and saved it however, when I needed to use it for reference it was not there. I recommend using the phone camera app and not the Home software for this portion. The gen 4 nest works in the Google Home software app only and not in the Nest app. I liked the Nest app much better. The Home app feels underdeveloped. The Nest Protects are in the Nest app while the gen 4 Nest thermostat is in the Home app and I cannot figure out how to get my Nest Protects to show up in the Google Home app. Having them both in one spot would be nice. My biggest issue is with the new display, bigger but not better. The gen 3 weather display was great. I could easily see the outside temp and the future temp in four hour increments throughout the day from across the room. The cartoon like weather animation was nice and easy to read. On gen 4, the temperature is very easy to see but the future temps are tiny and cannot be seen from across the room. Gen 4 only shows 1 hour increments and not 4 hour like gen 3 for future weather temperature. Gen 3 made it easy on a school day to know if it was going to be hot or cold later in the day to determine if the kids needed to pack a jacket. When viewed from across the room, the gen4 weather animation is blurry and almost indistinguishable between sunny, cloudy, rainy, and so on. A play on the gen 3 Nest weather display on the gen 4 larger screen would be nice to see.

The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) with the Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) in Polished Obsidian is both sleek and practical. Installation was simple — just take a quick picture of your old wiring before removing it, and the app walks you through everything step by step. The added sensor makes the whole house more comfortable. Very easy to use, and I can absolutely recommend it!

Relatively easy installation, love the way the projected outside conditions are shown when you walk close to the unit. Good feature to have an idea of if a change to the temperature will be supported by outside conditions...

Great upgrade from previous generation. I had a 3rd generation and this is a great upgrade. The screen is much better and customizable. The new thermostat uses Google Home instead of the Nest app, which was a change I wasn’t looking forward to. It’s not bad though if you want to integrate all your smart devices into one app. The sensors are nice because you can put them in multiple rooms and check temps and also program and decider how the thermostat reacts.
