Customers highly value the Nest Protect for its ease of use, night light feature, and simple installation. The long battery life and overall performance are also appreciated, along with its connectivity to other Nest products and app integration. While the price is a concern for some, many users have not experienced false alarms and find the sensitivity to be appropriate.

I recently replaced my 1st gen Protect with this new 2nd gen unit as I'd had them in place for 10 years and CO/Smoke alarms expire within 10 years. I didn't know this, but when 'their time came', the Nest app notified me, along with a really good explanation of why. That's the kind of security I've come to expect with Nest Protects and not only did I replace them, but acquired an additional battery unit for my basement. Now I'm covered on all floors of my home. They're easy to work with and don't go nuts right away when you burn some toast. Easy to test and easy to see if they're working with the 'Nightly Promise' light you'll see when you walk by them. A nonintrusive way of letting you know once a night that they are working. I have to add that I ran my 1st gens for 10 years with a couple of alarms over those years and the batteries were still running strong. Some excellent programming to maximize the battery life while still giving real time alarm results. Something to think about.

    Best in class

I'll admit it up front, I wanted these as much for the 'WOW' factor as the actual function. And these certainly have a lot of WOW. Installation and setup is very simple. attach wall/ceiling plate to surface and then twist sensor into place. Follow the voice prompts for setup and you're done. Really that easy. Now the features. First and foremost it is an excellent fire/smoke/CO detector. I've only had them set off once and that was while cleaning my oven. The cool thing is that it does not just go off immediately, it gives you a voice warning that there is a detection. So if you're cooking and get a warning you can shut it off via the app before you get the alarm. Second WOW feature, no more low battery chirps. It checks it own status daily without any fuss. It will alert you via app that you need to change batteries. I'm sure if you ignore it long enough it will eventually make noise, but why would you? Third WOW feature is the pathlight. If you get up in the middle of the night it will light up the glow ring on the unit so you can see. I love that feature. It is nice when I walk to the kitchen it turns on a light on the way. Same in the hallway to the bathroom. Sure you can buy a $2 nightlight but it's on all the time and not nearly as cool. These are just the most notable and noticeable features. While most more behind-the-scenes they make this the best in class. I didn't even mention how well it looks. Design is elegant yet it blends seamlessly into the rooms. Brilliant.

I'm getting myself pretty entrenched into the Google Ecosystem for most smart things... Nest Guard/Detect, Nest Protect, Nest Thermo, NestCams/Aware... I love how these things work seemlessly with the Nest app...i know iknow... google tracks everything, but whatever. I don't put cams where i don't want people looking in... i set up 2-factor log in... and it is what it is. As for this CO/Smoke detector, i love that it can test itself, and that at night, it creates a nightlight path for when motion is detected. I plan on grabbing a couple more to place around the house. With vaulted ceilings, it's going to be a challenge to getting some up there, but so far i have them in high traffic areas, outside of the kitchen. It's a little pricey for a CO/Smoke detector, but i like that i can check up on it in an app. Whereas the others, i won't know the batteries are dying until i hear that dreaded beep. Hopefully these last 10 years. If so, they're well worth it...else i hope they honor that warranty.

We have 7 of these. Battery operated. We are replacing old smoke detectors (one or two per year). Super easy setup. Also, physically easy to install. With a cordless drill, I think it took me all of 10 mins to install each one. Set took about 5 mins total. Like that they are then linked by smart home Alexa and wireless network. If one goes off, they all go off and tell you where the problem is. Also has carbon monoxide detector. Batteries last ten years and are replaceable. I wish they weren’t so expensive....

Pricy compared to the competition, but worth it. Check out the features. Most important to me was the ability to monitor operating condition, battery life and silence false alarms (of which I have had ZERO in the first month of use) from my iPhone. Very easy to install and connect to network/iPhone. Installation would have been even easier if Nest were to provide common connectors to adapt their connector to legacy connections (rather than having to use the wire nuts included) – very small quibble. ALSO – Backplate for the Battery Version does not have predrilled holes to match coming junction box screw holes as in the case for the Wired version. Backplate holes assume installing on a blank surface. Nest should provide same backplate for Battery Version as supplied with Wired Version.

The Protect is perfect. This is my second one. My first has been operating for over a year. Easy to install- it tells you what to do. No false alarms. Updates you for alarms and self tests over the app on your phone. Soft path light after dark when you walk under it.

    Peace of Mind

At first glance this doesn't look like much...but it affords incredible peace of mind. We have dogs in the house and one fear is that while we are at work our house catches fire and our pets perish. With the notifications to our cell phones this alarm allows us to promptly notify the fire department and potentially save our pets. Our daughters love the night light feature when they get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. The way it communicates with our Nest Thermostat is cool too. If it detect CO2...it has the Nest Thermostat turn off the furnace to prevent further CO2 build up. The only issue...is don't place it near the door to your shower. It sometimes mistakes steam with smoke. Not a deal breaker...but a small nuisance. Even with the Steam setting on the alarm.

We absolutely love our Nest protects. We initially purchased two so that we would have one on each floor in our house. Now, if I'm in the garage and there is smoke in the kitchen (no offence honey) I know about it. These devices were easily set up on our home wireless network and a piece of cake to install as well. These were a perfect solution for my older home that does not have a wired system. Now we have the benefit of an integrated system without the steep cost of installing wires. The batteries last for an extended time and the systems check them along with the rest of the functionality on a monthly basis. As a firefighter, these alarms help me sleep better at night. I would and have recommended these to a friend.

We recently had a fire on our block and it was a wakeup call to get our fire detectors replaced. I wanted something that was "smart" so it could alert us if we were out of the house. The Nest seemed like the right way to go. Easy to open package and super easy to setup. It was almost turn on and good to go. Just download the app and follow a few steps, test it and mount. Very well made device, outer shell is made of plastic, but felt solid and kind of heavy for its size. A little on the expensive side, but I think worth it for its 'smart features.' We bought one to try out, but I think we'll be picking up another when we have the extra funds.

Love the ease to set up and add to existing google smart home infrastructure. App walks through set up instructions and links all Nest Protects to each other to create a network for safety. Product looks clean once installed and offers tons of unique features compared to standard options. Automatic testing and monitoring makes it easy to ensure they are functioning correct and protecting the family. We first bought a few when a couple years ago and recently added 2 more as legacy ones reached end of life.

So far it has worked great and is easy to use. It was easy to install and came with all installation hardware. We haven’t had any false alarms and it has been easy to use with Google Home integration. I haven’t seen them go on sale is the only downside. We will see how long they last.

Not really sure how to review this since my house hasn't started on fire. Thank God. But I found the install easy and they (I got 3 of them) connected to my Google Home Hub without issue. We have them in a vacation home and wanted to be alerted if the place has issues. Kind pricey but seem to be worth it so far.

The Google nest protection smoke alarm /carbon monoxide alarm is a great addition to our google smart devices. It was easy to install. I like the fact that is a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm all in one. It also has a light built in. It does not go of for false alarms such as steam from food cooking. It will send an alarm to our phones if we are away from our home which is a great feature that no other smoke alarm would do.

Easy mounting. Easy setup. Easy on the eyes. As a user invest in the Google Home ecosystem this was an easy buy. I would knock them a little for being very expensive when there are a lot of competitors who offer the same compatibility at lower prices and have the same ratings. Google is going Premium with these but I'm OK with that.

The Nest Protect is easy to install and setup. You use your phone/tablet to setup the device before installing it. You use the Nest app to scan a QR code on the back of the Nest Protect to begin setup. If you have multiple Nest Protect's then you use one of the previously installed Nest Protect's to setup the new Nest Protect. One tip, you must clear the app cache for the Android Nest app before installing subsequent Nest Protects. Otherwise, setup will fail to setup the wifi connection and the error the Nest app gives is cryptic and infers a problem with your router. After setup, you can see the status of each Nest Protect and when it was last tested. Each Nest Protect will give you the status of all other Nest Protect's in your house. The wired and wireless devices are setup and function exactly the same.

Recently upgraded several smoke detectors in important parts of my house. and they work great. Many features that take guessing out of something that is so important. The battery lasts for years and the device tests itself periodically for functionality. Notification work instantly and I like the path light that detects motion when its dark. Another awesome Google product that just works.

    Easy Installation/Integration

Very easy installation (battery powered), took my old old old smoke detector down, screwed this one in it's place. I already had the Nest Thermostat, and app, so it was very easy to add the Smoke/CO detector. Pathway light is nice when you get up at night, as it gently lights the hall when it detects motion (this can be turned off if need be). I left the brightness set to medium, but can be adjusted to high, medium, and low. If you have a Nest Thermostat, you can also tell Nest Protect to shut down the furnace if it detects a high carbon monoxide level in the house. We also have a Wink hub for light automation and security in the house. You can set up a robot in the Wink App that will turn on all of the lights if the Nest Protect has a triggered alarm. We are very happy with the Nest Protect, and especially happy with how it easily integrates into our home automation. We only have the one Nest Protect in our house, and have named it "Hallway", if we added more, each would have a different name, and it's my understanding that for instance if the "Laundry Room" Nest Protect were to sound, all of the other Protects would tell me that there is smoke or Carbon Monoxide in the Laundry Room. We will be getting more of these over time! The only thing I would currently want changed with the Nest Protect is to change the Pathway light option to allow for a schedule. The hallway we have the Nest Protect located in is always shaded, so on a cloudy day, every time we walk through the hallway, it actuates the pathway light. I would like to be able to set the Pathway light to only actuate say from Sunset to Sunrise to save the batteries.

I would highly recommend NEST to anyone considering home automation. The products (Thermostat and Smoke/CO alarms) are easy to install and set-up. The product itself works great. It has expanded my security. I have two wired regular smoke alarms in my apartment and one CO alarm plugged in near the furnace. I added the NEST smoke/co alarms for added security and push notifications. This way, if I am away (which I am frequently) from my home then I have the peace of mind knowing I will be alerted if there is an issue. This also would give me the capability to call for help even if I wasn't home, and hopefully save my stuff and the neighbors if it got bad. The alarms are also "intelligent" and give you soft warnings with voice if there is just a little bit of smoke (like when cooking) and allow easy silencing. It also sends notifications when the smoke level decreases letting you know the issue has been mitigated. They also act as motion sensors which can help with your thermostat learning and they act as night lights, which is great for moving around at night to go to the bathroom or to get a drink of water. If you aren't sure $100 is worth the price of a smoke/co alarm, ask yourself how much your peace of mind is worth. I think the decision is pretty easy. I would highly recommend these products to expand (not replace) your existing smoke alarms. Fire departments recommend one per bedroom, hallways, and kitchen area to be secure. These additional two smoke/co alarms has allowed me to do this, and I feel like I can sleep better at night.

Most smoke/CO2 detectors are an eyesore but the Nest looks really good. Simple to use and it tests its own battery life which is nice to avoid chirping at night. A bit on the expensive side is the only downsid.e
