huge security flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.okay.. so when your sleeping late at night and someone breaks in.. kicks in the front door.. the systems says quietly front door open.. you cant hear it unless your in the same room and probly not if your asleep. and it give a 30 second count down before it sounds the alarm.. it wont let you do anything less than that.. any other security system when set to arm home is an instant alarm when triggered.. if its armed set to away it give you 30 seconds to make it from the front door to the key pad to turn off the alarm. if you home sleeping it should sound the alarm immediately to warn you .. 30 seconds is enough time for the killer to make it to my room while I am asleep and kill me. second if you try to add a guest like if you live in an apartment and have to give the complex access you have to allow them full access and requires a email address to let them download the app and log in.. now your apartment complex can view your security camra as well.. this is a huge privacy issue and I am very disappointed in nest not thinking things through.. I expected much more from them..

overpriced home security and Google is listening?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know where to begin on this. I finally was out of my horrible vivint contract and looking for new security. I have a dropcam so I wanted to try nest. I was hopeful the high price would be worth it but I was wrong. The best thing about this system is the set up and app do work well and are easy to use but that was all. My wife hates the little base thing that has to be plugged in... There is no good place by our door to put it! My other concern after I had the system for about a week was the weird ads that were all of a sudden showing up for me while online. I know Google owns nest and I have a horrible feeling they want to know about what we are doing in our home vs. keeping us safe. Our friends came to the house the other week with their baby just for dinner. Days after I started seeing ads online for Baby stuff (WE DONT HAVE KIDS)....

Poor design decisions all over the place
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We use a lot of google home devices so I was excited about adding this to the rotation, thinking it will be well integrated. It really really isn't. This is very clearly a nest device that is being attempted to be merged into google, poorly. The most obvious example of this is that nest guard alerts DO NOT extend to other google home devices. No notification of the guard being tripped on any of my nest hubs or nest speakers. This is an extra big deal because for whatever reason google has decided we don't need the ability to adjust the volume on our nest guard, and by default they've set it obscenely low. Don't get me wrong, it's loud as all hell when the alarm goes off, but all the door chimes and notifications that you've tripped it prior to the alarm going off are whisper quiet. This means a LOT of false alarms. Because if you forget you have the nest guard set and you open a door you have no way of knowing you've tripped it, since it only whispers "front door open, enter your passcode" and you can't hear it unless you're standing right next to it. Of course the other problem with this is that it would be of no use to alert you about an intruder until the actual alarm goes off. So someone could walk right into my house and murder me in the minute or so before the alarm goes off and I would have never known someone walked right in the front door, even though I have a nest speaker sitting right on my night stand. It is similarly useless in helping keep track of small kids. If I'm sitting on the can or even just in the room nextdoor and my 2 year old walks out the front door while the guard is set I won't be the wiser until they're half way down the street, maybe hit by a car. Outside of that there are lots of other little integration things that are obnoxious too. For instance nest and google accounts are still not merged properly. I want to add a separate passcode for my wife to use on the Nest since she prefers a different one. But when I try and add her as another family member in the Nest app it tells me it now uses google accounts and I have to add her in the google home app, but she is already a user in the google home app. The nest app won't pull her account over but I can't create her passcode or anything in the google home app where her user exists. It's basically no different than using a 3rd party alarm with google home. The only reason I bought the pricier (and apparently worse) Nest secure over 3rd party alarm systems was for better integration, but it doesn't have that.

Won’t notify when door opens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One thing that’s proving to be a dealbreaker for me is that you can’t get a push notification when your door or window opens and closes. You can only get notified when the alarm goes off. So for now I have to stick with my very disappointing AT&T system. I really hope Nest enhances this with the software update in the future, but for now I’m returning this.

Cool at first, but not a viable alternative
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m a huge fan of the Nest/Google suite of smart home products. I have no less than 10 devices of theirs connected to my WiFi right now. This was to be an alternative to ADT, which I had in the home I just moved from. It turned out to be a nightmare from the beginning. I’m sure that when the technology works, it’s a great experience. But in my case, I quickly learned that they are ill equipped to support customers when things go wrong. I purchased the unit, several extra motion sensing devices, and quickly signed up for the professional monitoring / cellular backup through Brinks. During this time, I learned that the SIM card was not entered correctly and would require a new base unit. Seemed like no big deal - and was able to reinstall a replacement unit in about two days. From that point on, I was never able to get the new unit to properly connect with the Brinks Service. I was left in this horrible spot trying to work the problem between Brinks and Nest - each of whom said the problem was the others. I spent more than 25 hours on the phone dealing with nine (yes, nine) separate support areas between the two companies. Making the situation even worse was that the senior level tech support at Brinks doesn’t work weekends and closes at 6PM central, forcing anyone on the west coast to take time off from work to get help. Despite living in a town with 100,000+ people, t-mobile is not an option so the device is in a constant error / alert mode because it can’t connect to cellular. Very annoying to be reminded of this every time you use the system. Lastly, the unit itself isn’t very loud. For example, I can’t hear the alarm in certain parts of my two story home. There are no options to change the volume. The concept is great, but given the opportunity to do this over, I would have stuck with a professional system. The product just isn’t ready for prime time.

Awesome, no complaints
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Exactly what we expected. Nest quality and simplicity. Designed for the millenial who doesn't want to mess with old fashioned and complicated interfaces. We love quickly arming and disarming from our phone, key fob, or keypad. All integrated in the same app we use for cameras and thermostats. Well done Nest!

Good until google intergration
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.as of November of 2019 they have some issues. as the door (where my Nest secure is at) is by the kitchen where I have my Google Home Hub, now when I ask google what is the weather so I can see hour by hour, Nest security responds and I don't see anything on the hub. asking "what is MY schedule today" I got a response of Nest guard does not have anything secluded today! I can go into the settings to turn this back off, but then I lose the glass break detection.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this security system since it launched. The reason I purchased it is because I wanted a system with cellular backup and without monitoring fees. Overall, however, I've been extremely disappointed with the system. I feel like it was designed by someone who has no experience in the security industry whatsoever. It doesn't improve on any security system I have had in the past (ADT and Frontpoint), but actually has fewer features than any I've used. I also feel like the product is still in beta--that it was released far too early and lacks so many features I would have expected from Nest. Here are some key issues: -When it is set to "Home and Guarding", (for example at night when you are sleeping), the alarm will not sound for a full 30 seconds after a sensor is triggered. This means someone can open your door and be well inside your house before the alarm sounds. Every other alarm system I have ever had, when set to "home", sounds IMMEDIATELY when a sensor is triggered. I can't imagine why anyone would want it any other way. -The base seems very vulnerable to being disabled (unplugged/smashed) before it has a chance to alert anyone of an alarm. -This system lacks even the most basic notification functions that allow you to monitor what is going on at your home. Do you want a notification to alert you when a door opens (for example, so you know the kids are home from school)? Can't do it. -It does not coordinate in any way with the other Nest products I have...an indoor cam and smoke detectors. All in all, this security "system" is essentially a speaker that makes a loud noise and sends you a notice if an alarm is triggered. If that's all you need, then this may work for you. If you want a true security/home monitoring system that help keep you and your family safer and will apprise you of what is going on at your home when you are gone (for example, when people are going in and out), this is not it.

Posted .*UPDATED* We’re releasing an update soon so that Nest Secure will offer Open tones. When the system is disarmed, you can have Nest Guard play a sound when a window or door is opened. You’ll also be able to set Nest Secure's alarm to go off without any delay. Set the alarm countdown to 'No delay' (0 seconds) when coming home. This can be set for both when you are in Home and Guarding or Away and Guarding. It should be finished rolling out to all customers over the next week or so.

Terrible customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.About a month ago, I purchased the Nest Guard along with additional detect sensors totaling over $700 dollars and that was after investing in a Nest Thermostat. Everything was good until recently and my dissatisfaction primarily stems from their support customer service. There was an issue that I had discovered with the recent Nest software update where even if a door sensor is set to motion off, the display would now indicate motion detection is on when "away and guarding" was set. I sent screen captures and got back that the engineers will be working on it, so I'm waiting patiently for the resolution for a week now. The second issue that I called about and the one that frustrated me was on a faulty detect sensor. After discussing the issue with a Nest rep, they stated they would provide a replacement and ship it overnight since I was going to be away from home for a couple of days following. A week later I hadn't received anything and after reaching out to Nest I was bounced around to three different reps for an hour, two of whom could use some training on proper customer service. First one was rude, second one stated I needed to send the faulty sensor back (ok by me) or else I will be receiving "threatening" messages (and that was by a senior agent). So, the last agent found out that the wrong email address had been recorded (even though they had the correct one from a previous call on the first issue) and that what was recorded was an issue on the nest thermostat sensor, even though I was clear that it was on the security DETECT sensor. No apologies from Nest whatsoever. I'm an engineer and find their products to be solid and user friendly for the most part. I had planned on purchasing other Nest products (Protect & doorbell), however, this customer service experience is making me think otherwise.

One Huge Flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went out and bought this $500 security system and set it up, only to realize afterward that it does not offer third party monitoring, meaning that if the alarm is tripped the only person notified is you and no local authorities, etc. This is a major flaw and defeats the purpose of having a security system in the first place. If you're sleeping, at work away from your phone, etc. and the alarm is tripped, nothing will be done until it is perhaps too late. I really love Nest and this system has some great features, but this major flaw will end with me returning the product and purchasing a security system that has third-party monitoring.

Sensors don't work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have my Nest Detects on doors and have turned off motion. Every time I walk in my house (using another door) the Detects which I have turned off motion on pick up motion and sound the alarm. I contacted support and they don't get why the system is performing this way. The motion off slider in the Detect's settings doesn't do anything, turns itself back on!

Total Let Down
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited for this system instead of getting the competition. Unfortunately, they released this product prematurely and it doesn't do some of the very basic things that security systems have been doing for 20 years. It's almost as if they didn't test it in the real world or look at any other alarm system from the past. Hopefully they can recover from this fumble but they lost me. That being said, shout-out to the Nest Detect group. This little marvel was the star of the show. Nice work. The hardware is pretty much on point.

One major and deal-breaking flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The alarm is great and can be fixed with one simple update to the software. Right now, by Nest's own admission, you cannot set an instant trigger for when a door is opened while in home and guarding mode. The minimum time before the alarm goes off is 30 SECONDS! How can they call this a security system when the alarm doesn't go off for 30 seconds after someone breaks through a door?? I'll be driving back to BestBuy to return this.

Cannot connect to Detects
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately I will have to return the Nest Alarm system due to not being able to connect to the Nest Detects. Worst product nest makes - no push notification
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been really frustrated, angry and disappointed in this product. It is hands down the worst product nest/google makes. While I love my nest cameras, and google hubs and thermostat + WiFi and protects - the nest guard and detect have been TERRIBLE. I just started my return with google today after many days of trying to get it to work. It will NOT SEND PUSH NOTIFICATIONS. Yikes! For an alarm system that will not send you an update to your phone when the alarm is triggered is terrifying. All other nest push notifications work fine. This is a known issue to google. Instead of sending me a new device or offering professional setup support - google continued to have me run through basic trouble shooting for several hours. HOURS! I am really upset that I was have to use a different company for security given that every other component of my smart home is google/nest.

Way over rated
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Where do I begin? Zero customer support. Except for predetermined questions. When away from home I get an alert say from front door camera. I acknowledge the warning and the camera displayed is my driveway camera and not my front door. If a bush moves I get an alert... if I come home a person has been spotted in your driveway well its me. Even though my camera knows a familiar face.... i have verified and drawn an action zone but it still alerts me 20' outside the action zone when every car drives by.... do not recommend. For a month my driveway camera was completely unavailable. I tried everything from rebooting to uninstall and reinstall ... then one afternoon it comes back online... I also have Google Home Nest it is useless.... its majority answer when i ask about a question it says "Im not sure what you are asking but I'm still learning. Been 3 years of learning. Sick of itbecause of initial expense I will keep 1 more year then hoping to sell it all to someone that doesnt care how system works and as i said before Customer support is non existant

Google/Nest Customer Service Keeps Screwing Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a couple calls to Google/Nest I got my security system set up and working with the exception of one of the tags that's not working. I contacted Google/Nest and we troubleshooted the issues and they said they would send me a new one. Well, I got a confirmation email for the shipping of the new tag. They had the wrong name and address (even though I emailed my name and address to the person I spoke with). So I called back and the person apologized and said he would correct the name and address on the order. He verified my name and address over the phone and said I would get another confirmation email. I did get another email, but it was for setting up a return for a Nest device. How can I return something I haven't received? So I called them again for the 4th time. Now they've said they've canceled all the orders, but they don't have the grey tag to send me. I'm actually on hold with them as I'm writing this review. I've spend over 4 hours on the phone dealing with Google/Nest. I';m worried because every time I talk to one of them they seem to screw things up even more.
