Looked at various systems, ultimately chose the nest because of the pathway lighting and motion detection features of the door and window sensors.

I mainly use this for the door chimes to know if the kids go out, but it does so much more. Simple and easy to setup.

I like the system but really wish they would have gone with, or also offered, a wall mountable keypad. Arming the system is dead easy, maybe too easy…see below. Adding sensors is simple and much like any other device you want to add to your Nest ecosystem. The sensors are expensive but at least they serve as open/close and motion detection, plus a path light if needed. The integration with an alarm notification and the video timeline is awesome. I like that there’s no monthly fee unless you want cellular backup. That’s important for it to be free if you’re already paying for multiple cameras. Professional monitoring is also available should you prefer the piece of mind to have a third party get involved to notify the proper authorities. Corner mounts for the sensors would be nice so you can take full advantage of the field of view. No back to my wish. We are pet owners, cats in particular. Having this setup on the counter, it wasn’t long before a cat found a flaw. While prowling around on the counter, the cat stepped on the keypad and managed to arm it. Of course, when he later decided to move, the motion was detected and the alarm went off. My wife thought the system was faulty but that handy timeline integration revealed what truly happened. If there was an option to require you to enter your code before entering into armed, that might help minimize false alarms. I think ultimately though, I would prefer a wall mounted unit as an option, even if it was a secondary keypad and then I could put the main unit in our bedroom that remains closed off to cats.

Love this alarm. Very nice looking. Works perfectly. Nice that it can be hooked up with security service or stand alone.
