I originally got 2 nest thermostats, and they work well. Due to my house layout, the upstairs thermostat location always reads higher than the rooms. It’s located on a breeze way that’s open to the living room below and the upstairs bedroom temperatures were always a different reading than the thermostat. This sensor allowed the thermostat to operate based on the temperature in the room instead, making it much more comfortable. It would have been five stars except for the price. I feel this could be done more cost effectively but as far I know only nest sensors work on it. Building a smart home is easier than before but don't expect every brand to follow the standards, it may have its own proprietary system.

The frosting for a Nest Cake

Our upstairs & downstairs each have separate HVAC systems. Being empty-nesters, our upstairs is seldom used. When it is, I’m too conservative to run the HVAC to heat or cool the entire upstairs at such times when only 1 of the rooms is in use. I had previous experience with an older Hunter thermostat which used portable sensors which could be used to determine which room would determine the thermostat’s temperature setting...like having separate thermostats in each room. The sensors could be used individually or combined to determine an average. I loved how useful & economical the sensor system was. The Hunter thermo eventually failed altogether. 6 mos. Ago, I replaced it with a Nest 3rd Gen Smart Thermostat along with a set of sensors which can be used to determine which of the rooms would determine the thermostat setting which when away from home can be adjusted remotely online. The room over the garage is the most difficult to keep temps adjusted and the room in the northwest upstairs corner is 2nds most difficult to keep adjusted. The thermostat is located in a room which has other rooms on each side of it insulating it from such problems. With these sensors, those rooms are now completely adjustable. I love being able to customize each room to accommodate usage by simply using or moving a sensor. I also love the economic advantages. Although the downstairs programmable digital thermostat works great, when we are away from home during extreme weather, I had to place a large visible thermometer in sight of a security camera so I could monitor the temp; however there was nothing I could do to make remote adjustments. Recently I decided to also replace our downstairs Honeywell thermostat with a 3rd Gen Nest Smart Thermostat with sensors. I plan on using the sensors to keep the temperature in certain more difficult to regulate rooms comfortable despite extenuating circumstances, i.e. north-west facing living room with 2 story cathedral ceilings and large north & west facing windows, i.e. a very hot kitchen with a hot-natured wife cooking & baking…all the time. The sensors, in combo with the Nest Smart Thermostat, are akin to the frosting on a cake. Using the Nest App I can monitor and make any adjustments online wherever we are!

I'm a very picky sleeper. I've gotten used to tech too much, but I love when it works for me. I had a nest in my living room but bed room is closer to the window (which is exposed to outside world) so the temp I set in the thermostat doesn't always give me the desired sleeping temperatures. But these temperature sensors work like charm in such cases. You can even set a schedule in the nest app, to switch to different sensors at different times of day! I love it!

I wish I had bought these sooner. I love the ability to prioritize rooms based on the time of day. Despite a relatively small condo, our room's temperatures vary quite a bit. This has made our home much more comfortable.

I was initially having the issue where the upstairs would be much warmer than downstairs. After installing the nest thermostat, we decided to purchase the Nest Temperature sensor and placed it in the warmest room in our home. Having this sensor has allowed the nest to better regulate the temperature of both floors. We have had both the Nest and the Nest Temperature sensor for about 2 months and we cannot be happier with the outcome of having these two items. Oh, and it has help decrease our electricity bill in this time frame.

This little sensor is in the master bedroom upstairs and monitors the temp up there. From the mobile app on my phone, I can change whether I want the upstairs sensor temp or the downstairs sensor temp with the termostat determining when the furnace should go on and off. This allows me to see what the temp is up in the bedroom before I head to bed and make adjustments before I go up.

I bought these to help balance the temperature in multiple rooms of my home. Having the benefit of a temperature in each room you place these allows one to manage furnace dampers and registers to more evenly balance in room temperatures. Knowing is half the battle! FYI-these are powered by a battery that will need to be replaced periodically. Temperature readings show in the Nest app along with your Nest thermostats and smoke detectors.

I hesitated on getting a temp sensor with my Nest for a while but this really is nice to have. I have just one that used to be in the office, but moved it upstairs recently and might get another one. Currently the Nest app lets you prioritize sensors (or the main thermostat) within a Morning/Midday/Evening/Night schedule - I wish it let you pick times, but this is generally OK.

Set up was easy. Just scan the QR code and add to your nest. Ours has a weak connection to the main thermostat from time to time so that's why it's 4 stars not 5.

Good buy, I have a two story house and the upstairs is always hotter than the down stairs. The thermostat was downstairs. So when you were upstairs it was hard to sleep because of the heat. Now with the sensor upstairs I can control the coolness while being upstairs. I don’t have to run downstairs to get to the thermostat. I can change temperature from upstairs when I’m upstairs. I don’t have to go downstairs to change temperature.

If you have a Nest that controls our temperature in your house, this is a must to have. We placed ours in the master bedroom since it gets hot faster than the living room. Once it was connected I was able to select it so whatever the temp we want will stop once the this sensor hits it. On top of that, you can schedule which sensor has priority when. This has help our sleeping habits a lot. We're planning to getting more.

Remote thermostat gives better reading than main

The remote thermostat is great for getting your whole house at an even temperature. Our main thermostat is installed near our wall hung TV and it produces heat which throws off the main thermostat reading. I have a remote stat in the same room as the main along with our 2 bedrooms. You can set the remotes to take over at various times throughout the day or you can simply set one remote to determine the temperature for the house.

One thermostat was on a wall that was above the gas boiler and got 6 degrees hotter than the rooms. Another was on the other side of a wall and we put in a door. Could we have spliced wires and moved either or both -- Yup, but instead plunked one of these guys on the actual areas of the rooms I wanted to keep at a temperature. Amazing -- both transformed a relatively uncontrolled heating system into perfect. And from MY Best Buy Store -- I could have bought elsewhere, but why -- this is MY store.

Bought this to put in my master bedroom as it never gets quite as warm as the rest of the house. Always had to use a space heater in that room in the colder months. This solved the issue perfectly. I was concerned that the rest of the house would be too warm, but I was actually able to turn down the main thermostat to 70 degrees from 72 and the entire house seems more evenly heated and the temp is just right, not sure how that worked out, but it did. So I'm super happy about that.

The Nest Temperature Sensors are a great addition to the Nest Learning Thermostat. The 3-pack is perfect for a home the size of mine to have just the right amount control and as you Nest learns your preferences, it will get even better over time. If you have a 2-stage or more variable speed system, it is AMAZING! Although, we have just a 1200sqft (111 sqm) single story home, there are still temperature fluctuations from space to space. These little devices turn your thermostat into a multi-zone system affordably. At a minimum, you can control your comfort based on your room use, versus heating the whole house based on "location of your thermostat". For example, at night, when you want your bedroom cool, the Nest will heat the space according to that small room's sensor versus the heating the entire ambient temperature of the house. Vice versa, if you are sitting in the great room during the day, reading a book, where it might heat up faster due to sunlight coming into large windows, the device can be installed in that space to give you the control to adjust according to those ambient factors resulting in the furnace running less often. Downside, if your system is old, single stage system, it will not deliver optimal performance.
