I purchased this door bell camera about a month ago and I haven't had to charge it since the initial charge, and the app estimates I don't need to charge it for another 2 months! It was a pretty easy installation. It's a pretty cool camera and once set up it notifies you through your phone. If you have a google home it can chime when someone rings the doorbell and notify you that someone is at the door. It can also tell the difference between animals and people.

If you’re like me, you bought this because you wanted a battery doorbell. My wired nest hello doorbell would constantly blow my transformer. I’m not going to open up my walls and make sure the wires aren’t touching so this is the next best thing. It’s true the Google Home app is a pain. I had to reinstall everything to get it to work. I have a google hub monitor so that works as my chime. But once you get it going, the doorbell is great. It doesn’t record 24/7 but I don’t need it to. I knock it down a star bc this sucker is big. Way bigger than the nest hello. At least it’s slim though. And the black plastic dial surrounding the lens is like a super cheap washer and not premium at all. I can’t imagine Apple would ever do that. Overall works great, and looks great. I have nest cams at home with a hub so this doorbell fell right into the ecosystem. I don’t have any problems using the app. It notifies me of people even further away and knows when there is a package on the ground. Worth the money and a solid 4 star rating.

    Great Doorbell and Camera

Love the doorbell and camera feature. Our house does not have a doorbell so people just have to knock. I love that this camera/doorbell works with all my Google Home Hub displays and rings a "doorbell" sound when someone presses the button. You can also view the camera when it is pressed. Great for someone who doesn't have a traditional doorbell and doesn't want to wire one up. I did purchase the optional indoor power cable so I dont have to keep removing and charging the camera. I have a covered outlet on my porch so I did not drill a hole though my wall to bring it inside. (note that power supply only keeps it powered up and does not charge the battery) If battery does drop you have to remove it and charge with USB C that is included. Also since this is the battery door bell it will keep recording if there is a power outage and will upload video once power and wifi is restored.

Coming from ring to Google this is definitely a better product. I love how easy it was to setup and integrate with the rest of my Google home products. I really love the quality and look of this doorbell and being able to change given notifications depending on people, packages, etc is a definitely plus and makes it so I don’t get so many notifications. If your looking for a good doorbell this is definitely an awesome choice.

More useful then the wired doorbell because you are able to place it to get the perfect view which is forward so you can see people coming up to your door. My wired doorbell was on the side of my house next to the door so the view just showed that side view of my porch. The battery can also is much easier to setup. I was done in less than 15 mins. The battery looks to last 2-3 months and takes minutes to fully recharge. This cam works perfectly with my Google assistants so when someone rings the bell the sound comes thru on the Google asst and it shows at the door. All and all a great device.

It works however be warned that when the temperatures drop, it will give you a hard time. This is battery operated and we had to charge it every few days, annoying. We hardwired and the battery still gets wonky occasionally. Clarity is great in the Home app and hub. The audio is laggy in the Home app (android is what we have, can't speak for iPhone) but great in the hub. It wasn't expensive and we're not too annoyed by the cons I stated above. We're keeping but will upgrade if a better version comes out. I do stress that this device does not like the cold. If you need something quickly and it's on sale, go for it (utilizing as another cam is an alternative option). But keep an eye out if a newer version comes out.

Hello R3XL, thanks for posting feedback about the Nest Doorbell (battery). We’re glad that you like its clarity in the app and the hub, but we’re sorry to hear you ran into different issues with its performance and features.

At temperatures below freezing, the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest camera or doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing.

If you’ve connected your Nest Doorbell (battery) to your existing doorbell wiring, the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge. At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the doorbell can continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged. If the battery drains completely, the doorbell will shut down, and you’ll need to bring it inside to be charged. So if the temperature is below 32°F (0°C) and the battery is low, bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature. The battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.

A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your doorbell. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. Which may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. Removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion. If your doorbell is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.

The first time I set this up, it would often disconnect from the internet -- or it would at least send me a notification that it was disconnected. However, after removing it from my "Home" and reconnecting it, I haven't had that recurring issue. In terms of picture quality, I would say it's very nice for a doorbell camera. The image is clear, and the IR camera in the night time is very effective. The worst aspects of the camera are probably the battery and the app integration. You just use the Google Home app, which is already a bit clunky. Features and options are very limited once you connect to the doorbell in the app. Battery life is lacking and I would say that you need to recharge it at least once every two weeks.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback about your experience with the Nest Doorbell (Battery) and the Google Home app, and we’re sorry to hear that it has not been ideal for you.

We understand that long time Nest users like you enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app. However, our priority with this launch was to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant.

Also, your Nest doorbell could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. The battery life can be extended by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.

If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your doorbell to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Doorbell (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use. You can also connect your Nest doorbell to the doorbell system wires if you have one. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged.

We can also check for other reasons why the battery needs to be recharged every two weeks, so we can find a way to help improve your experience. We encourage you to contact us anytime here for further isolation and troubleshooting: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

We got the battery version in case the wiring in the house was too old, but it hooked up just fine. The setup was very easy, Google links you to a video and you just go from there. It sends notifications for movement all the way down to the sidewalk. Speak feature works well, and the camera has very good night vision.

Perfect for rental apartments or homes. Only had to buy a rotating door bracket to adjust the view from Amazon. Battery lasts for 4-6 months and thats due to having a street in the view. So I get multiple notifications throught the day. I feel if I only select some activity area, battery may last 6-8 weeks easily. Have 3 hrs recording window which is more than sufficient. Camera detects the package and animals really nicely.

(I received a highly discounted product as a Best Buy employee but I have received no other compensation for this review, this review is purely my own opinion) Title feature is probably the major selling point considering a lot of other doorbells charge for any saved video. I also was pretty impressed at the package and person detection ,even more so given how its mostly done on device. Accessing video and speaking to people that rang the door was pretty lag free, unlike a lot of competing doorbells. The doorbell can also handle a wide range of low voltage wiring, which means if you currently have a wired doorbell you probably wire this guy up to it without replacing the transformer(which I did). The video quality while reasonable isn't the best though, although the IR mode is pretty serviceable. Also love the cute seasonal chimes!

I purchased the nest doorbell battery because of the option to wire along with a back-up battery. The images are crisp and the doorbell works as advertised. The only problem I had with the doorbell was installation. I tried to install the doorbell prior to having wifi properly set up in our newly bought house so I tried with mobile wifi. That created an unknown problem in which the doorbell became registered, so when I finally had my wifi in the house set up, the doorbell would not sync. It took me 2 days to figure out how to system reset the doorbell because there was not a lot of information on the internet that matched my problems. Once I factory reset the doorbell I was able to register the nest to my google home account. Thats another minor issue I have, I like many others on the internet have said "I prefer the nest app to the google home app".
