It works however be warned that when the temperatures drop, it will give you a hard time. This is battery operated and we had to charge it every few days, annoying. We hardwired and the battery still gets wonky occasionally. Clarity is great in the Home app and hub. The audio is laggy in the Home app (android is what we have, can't speak for iPhone) but great in the hub. It wasn't expensive and we're not too annoyed by the cons I stated above. We're keeping but will upgrade if a better version comes out. I do stress that this device does not like the cold. If you need something quickly and it's on sale, go for it (utilizing as another cam is an alternative option). But keep an eye out if a newer version comes out.

Hello R3XL, thanks for posting feedback about the Nest Doorbell (battery). We’re glad that you like its clarity in the app and the hub, but we’re sorry to hear you ran into different issues with its performance and features.

At temperatures below freezing, the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest camera or doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing.

If you’ve connected your Nest Doorbell (battery) to your existing doorbell wiring, the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge. At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the doorbell can continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged. If the battery drains completely, the doorbell will shut down, and you’ll need to bring it inside to be charged. So if the temperature is below 32°F (0°C) and the battery is low, bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature. The battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.

A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your doorbell. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. Which may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. Removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion. If your doorbell is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.

Your feedback counts as we’re always looking for opportunities to improve our products and services. And if additional assistance is needed, here’s where you’ll find us ready to help you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

More useful then the wired doorbell because you are able to place it to get the perfect view which is forward so you can see people coming up to your door. My wired doorbell was on the side of my house next to the door so the view just showed that side view of my porch. The battery can also is much easier to setup. I was done in less than 15 mins. The battery looks to last 2-3 months and takes minutes to fully recharge. This cam works perfectly with my Google assistants so when someone rings the bell the sound comes thru on the Google asst and it shows at the door. All and all a great device.

We got the battery version in case the wiring in the house was too old, but it hooked up just fine. The setup was very easy, Google links you to a video and you just go from there. It sends notifications for movement all the way down to the sidewalk. Speak feature works well, and the camera has very good night vision.

(I received a highly discounted product as a Best Buy employee but I have received no other compensation for this review, this review is purely my own opinion) Title feature is probably the major selling point considering a lot of other doorbells charge for any saved video. I also was pretty impressed at the package and person detection ,even more so given how its mostly done on device. Accessing video and speaking to people that rang the door was pretty lag free, unlike a lot of competing doorbells. The doorbell can also handle a wide range of low voltage wiring, which means if you currently have a wired doorbell you probably wire this guy up to it without replacing the transformer(which I did). The video quality while reasonable isn't the best though, although the IR mode is pretty serviceable. Also love the cute seasonal chimes!

I purchased the nest doorbell battery because of the option to wire along with a back-up battery. The images are crisp and the doorbell works as advertised. The only problem I had with the doorbell was installation. I tried to install the doorbell prior to having wifi properly set up in our newly bought house so I tried with mobile wifi. That created an unknown problem in which the doorbell became registered, so when I finally had my wifi in the house set up, the doorbell would not sync. It took me 2 days to figure out how to system reset the doorbell because there was not a lot of information on the internet that matched my problems. Once I factory reset the doorbell I was able to register the nest to my google home account. Thats another minor issue I have, I like many others on the internet have said "I prefer the nest app to the google home app".

The quality of this device is exceptional and the installation was easy for the battery operatedversion. We tried to hook it up to the existing doorbell and the instructions for that could be a little clearer. Overall I am happy with this device. You only get about 2 hours to see an event and save it if you do not sign up for the subscription.

Good quality video with sound. Works great with Google home app. I wouldn’t recommend the battery version if the are is high traffic it will deplete the battery faster and needing charged more often. Good purchase overall.

Hi Brice, thanks for sharing your feedback with us about the Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn that the battery version has not been ideal for your needs.

If your doorbell is detecting a lot of activities, you can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your doorbell to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter that will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter for Nest doorbell is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use.

If you're willing, we can help you check for other reasons why the battery needs to be recharged more often. We encourage you to visit us whenever you have time for troubleshooting guidance: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Smh. I have multiple Nest IQ outdoor cams as well as the first gen outdoor cams. I love those cams and the Nest App. I also have Arlo cams which are good but I prefer Nest cams because of the continuous recording and the Nest App. I also have multiple Nest smoke detectors and Nest Protect with sensors all over. A great setup. Now, I bought this doorbell knowing it wouldn't record 24/7. Fine. However, the fact that it doesn't work with the Nest app, and that you have to use Google Home, is really irritating. Google home is terrible in comparison. It's an ugly app, layout is terrible and it doesn't allow you to anything wi the your older Nest products except for live view. You still control all the older cams with the Nest App. On a basic level they could have at least integrated Google Home with the older devices so it is fully functional. It is obnoxious that they did this. That said, The doorbell quality is good... Really good and it looks great. However, not have 24/7 video recording is problematic because it misses events. I've had deliveries that didn't get recorded with sensitivity set to high. I may return for the older one but he old one is missing the smart features. I feel like everything with Nest/Google is half done. One one hand it looks great, hardware is great but app, firmware and everything else is a mess. Thought I found the perfect setup with all my Nest devices but they've fragmented their own products like two different security cam companies. Ugh.

Hi Scott, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the new Nest Doorbell (Battery) didn’t meet your expectations. We understand how important it is to control all your devices in one app.

The new Nest Doorbell (Battery) is exclusive to the Home app, as we wanted to create an integrated experience. We understand that not all Nest devices are available in Google Home app yet, but our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbells. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

Your feedback is important to us, as it will help us to improve our products and services. If you need assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Perfect for rental apartments or homes. Only had to buy a rotating door bracket to adjust the view from Amazon. Battery lasts for 4-6 months and thats due to having a street in the view. So I get multiple notifications throught the day. I feel if I only select some activity area, battery may last 6-8 weeks easily. Have 3 hrs recording window which is more than sufficient. Camera detects the package and animals really nicely.

This doorbell by google is my favorite google nest product. The video and sound quality is super clear. Making two way conversations a breeze. You can use this for surveillance so it adds a whole new layer. It even recognizes faces, if you pay for the premium service. This doorbell is top tier and light years better than the Ring we replaced with this.

My one complaint about the battery version is you can't record 24/7 like the hardwire version can, even if you hardwire the battery version. Otherwise, its an excellent doorbell cam. Clear video, response time in the app is great, and the wifi outage/local recording feature is perfect.
