If you’re seeing dark bands over the images, this happens when the refresh frequency of the light source is close to the exposure rate of the camera. You can restart the camera by unplugging it from its power source, wait 30 seconds, and plug the camera back in. The camera will try to detect and correct this issue, so you can choose to wait for the issue to resolve, or try the following steps:
- If the light can be dimmed, set the brightness to a different level.
- If possible, test a different brand and power level of light.
- Adjust the camera field of view away from the light source.
- Your doorbell needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating.
- Keep your doorbell out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating.
Also, to use the wedge for a better camera view, make sure to install the wedge then position the baseplate plate over the wedge with the G positioned upright and use the wedge screws to secure it in place.

As far as notifying you of approaching people, forget it. I have had it for 3 days. I've connected it and disconnected it several times. I've changed settings. I have it positioned on my front porch with straight shot view of the sidewalk from the street up to my house. I have good internet so it's not that. I will be returning it. Too bad, it looks great and the video quality is excellent when looking at live shots.

You can choose to receive notifications for everything your device detects, or choose notifications for only certain types of activity. If you’ve turned on critical alerts, you may receive some push notifications even when your phone is set to Do Not Disturb. You can also create an Activity Zones to cover areas in your camera’s view that you care about, and choose the type of motion you want to be notified of for each zone. This is helpful if you’re receiving too many alerts from motion throughout your Nest Doorbell’s view.

Also, the flexibility and integration with other Google Home devices were a bonus. It integrated well with the nest hubs and nest hub max.

There isn’t a whole lot of options on the market and after looking through what was in stock and I decided to try a third Google nest doorbell. It didn’t end up fixing some of my smart home integration issues and it didn’t fit my needs or work in the way that it was supposed to. I ended up uninstalling it and returning it and now I have a classic push button doorbell without any smart features and my headache with some of the Google smart home stuff is no Longer.
