Great to have a decent battery-powered option for a doorbell and Google Home is pretty simple to integrate with. However, because this needs a battery it is HUGE. Much bigger than the size of the wired doorbell. It also needs charging every couple of weeks depending on how busy the area it monitors is. It would be nice if a.) it came with a charger (it comes with a cable) and b.) the charging port was on the side instead of on the back. Also, despite the instructions being fairly clear, I couldn’t quite tell when the doorbell clicked into place on the mount. It doesn’t have a very satisfying/clear click when it’s secure. This led to it falling off on one occasion, so be careful it’s actually secure. I’m having an issue where I get two phone notifications every time it sees a person at the door instead of just one notification. Overall it’s still a solid option for a battery doorbell and Google Home is hard to beat for simplicity.

Rings My 50's Mechanical Doorbells Just Fine Too!

I already had another premium brand smart doorbell (R**G) and I replaced it with this Google Nest Doorbell Battery model as the old one had seen better days and had quit ringing the old inside doorbells. They call this the battery model however you can direct wire it to an existing electric transformer doorbell chime for power as well so you don't need to remove and charge the doorbell as it needs it. The initial charge needs to be done with the included USB C cord and any standard USB power supply plug that you provide, not included. This doorbell rings the old chimes just fine without the additional transformer that is required that you purchase to use this with an electronic chime. Installation is simple and I had no problems adding it to my dual band (2.5ghz and 5ghz) mesh router. The Google Home App is what you use to view the camera in the doorbell, get your notifications you select in the settings and use the doorbell as an intercom while viewing the camera feed or when someone rings the doorbell. You can also set it to detect motion if desired, but I have another security camera on the porch I use for that function. We have a rather active street that I don't care to have trigger my doorbells camera in any way so in the settings I set the active zone to my front porch only but it can cover a much larger area if that is what works for you. Be sure and go through the settings of the camera in the Google Home App so you get the notifications for the features you desire as well as flipping on the ring doorbell feature if you want that to happen in addition to the phone notification, otherwise its just going to notify you on your smartphone and that's it, but that may be enough for some folks. But I wanted my old mechanical chimes to notify us as well. The camera itself has good resolution and the speaker for two way communication or using one of their preset responses is more than adequate and its volume can be adjusted. I will continue to play with it and learn more about it but initially we are well pleased with its look, features and function.

The camera and zone settings work well for tracking visitors and packages while living in a city, but the battery life is awful. Our apartment did not have doorbell wiring so we opted for the battery-powered version. It dies VERY quickly, normally every 2-3 days, but in the extreme heat or cold it can last for as little as a few hours. If you live in a city, hire a contractor to run the proper wiring, otherwise you'll be charging your doorbell more than you use it.

Hey there, Sarah. We’re sorry to hear you’re having to charge the Nest Doorbell (Battery) so often. The battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:

Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here’s a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

I ordered the wireless camera because I didn't have a doorbell previously. Install was a breeze, and set up on my phone was quick. On the Google home app you get to customize the alerts you want to receive. The unit can be removed with a special key to charge with a usb-c charger (only the cable is provided) for about 4 hours. The two complaints I have are battery life, but that can be remedied by turning off some alerts. The second would be the newest video alert is not available until later, not all the times but it happens. Overall I'm pleased with the product.

Hey there, Oscarv956. We appreciate your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery). We're glad that the setup and installation went easy for you. We hear your concerns about the battery life along with the video alerts.

Aside from turning off some alerts, you can extend the battery life by adjusting the settings like video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Check this link for tips on how to save the battery: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

Also, you may need to check for any range issue or wireless interference that can affect the overall performance of your doorbell. Sometimes the device may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away from your router. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the doorbell and your router as these items could block the connection. I like the sleek, minimalist design and the color that is cool. The downsides are the short battery life and having only 3 hours of footage that you are able to view. The ease of setting up this device made the experience better.

Love the design. I have a brick house and I didn’t want to have to drill into the brick, so this fit perfectly on the wooden door frame. The video quality itself is good, however the battery life is terrible. I had to set it to conserve battery life, but the motion is triggered a lot less than when it’s in balanced battery mode. So much that it cuts off anybody walking up to my front door and you can’t even see their face. Totally worthless since I have to charge it at least once a week.

This review is for the battery-operated product. I purchased this item for its simplicity and partly because I also have a Google Nest outdoor camera so I can have the same subscription for all my cameras. I really like this product as the installation/setup guide is very intuitive. As soon as you scan the barcode for the setup process, it will guide you throughout the process. The video and recorded events are very clear, and the sound quality is just right. Pretty much similar to the outdoor cameras except that as an event happens, it automatically keeps track in the history so you really need to do a lot of video scrubbing. One of the big discovery I found with this is the facial recognition is very good. My wife went out with a sweater hoodie as it was cold and still recognized her face in the history. The battery charge seem to hold well. I was under the impression I will have to recharge frequently since I keep on viewing the history but I found out that it is holding out well. One suggestion I would recommend is that if you also have other Google/Nest cameras to switch to Nest Aware plus as it's a big benefit and you can save more money from the subscription.

Good for what I need, since retiring my hard-wire system is problematic. I will say that, although it’s not required unreasonably often, having to remove it to charge it is a bit of a pain. I also live in Minnesota. Now that the cold weather season has begun I’m getting warning on my app that it may be adversely impacting its ability to hold a charge. We’ll see as winter really sets in. Last negative- it’s really BIG! On the plus side, it seems to work fine.

Hello there, Scott. We’re glad to hear that the Nest Doorbell (battery) meets your needs. We hear your concerns about having to recharge it more often than you should along with its battery behavior during extreme cold weather, and with the size of the device.

Nest Doorbell (battery) is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery that drives the size of the product, so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. Also, at temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the battery can still power your device, but it won’t charge. It may drain more quickly than usual. At temperatures close to -4°F (-20°C), your battery may have less than half the life that it has in warm weather. The doorbell will continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged. You need to bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature so the battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.

I admit I was alittle hesitant about the 2 month battery life, but at the rate is going it's going to be maybe 3 months before a recharge! Quality is amazing, identifying individuals and packages is spot on and very quick to alert me! Install was tricky at first but figure it out and you can make it work almost anywhere!

The Google Nest Doorbell is one of the most reliable and user-friendly smart doorbells I’ve used. Setup is straightforward—whether you choose the wired or battery-powered version, the instructions are clear, and the Google Home app makes the process smooth. On the downside, some of the advanced features (like video history longer than 3 hours and more detailed alerts) require a Nest Aware subscription. The battery model also needs recharging every few months depending on usage, which might be inconvenient for some.

Great video quality however the chime function DOES NOT WORK - you hear it outside but never inside! Had I known that before I would not have purchased this doorbell. The only time visitors are announced is if you have the live video feed on which DRAINS the battery quick. Gave 1 star for sound quality regarding the chime and not overall video sound. I recently tried out the Google Nest WiFi Battery, and I’d give it about 3.8 stars. The overall quality is good—setup was straightforward and the battery performs well under normal conditions. However, one downside is that it dies noticeably faster in winter, which can be a pain if you live in colder areas. If you have the option, you might be better off with the wired version for more reliable performance in all seasons.

Video quality is excellent but battery quality is not. I’ve had this doorbell for almost 2 years now and 7 months in I had to receive a replacement due to battery lasting only a couple days with no package, person, motion alerts. I tried to charge the battery at least 3 times but each time it lasted a couple days before receiving an alert to recharge. I’m now on the phone with Google support as this battery issue is happening again 1 year later. I live in the Midwest so I’m going to assume the battery life is associated with hot temperatures outside. I will be looking into a different doorbell and trashing this one.

Hey there, KCCC. We’re sorry to hear you’ve had problems with keeping your Nest Doorbell (Battery) charged. Battery life can be impacted over time by activity, temperature, and selected camera settings.
