Good unit for non tech savvy parents and family that can’t or won’t learn how to use tech. Good speed and decent range with the ability to expand if needed, the app makes it a breeze to set up for just about anyone.

Setup was incredibly easy, it took about 10min. to get up and running. Coverage was good in a 1,300sq' ranch. I get roughly 200-250Mbps down over wifi, 450Mbps down from the wired router. I pay for 400Mbps. This is excellent. Software works great and is easy to use. I recommend putting it out in the open and as high up as possible for the best coverage. The router looks good too so having it in the open is not a problem. It has 2 ethernet ports one for your modem and the other for a device. I plugged my smart t.v. into it since it was right next to it.

Setup and reconnecting after a power outage or isp disruption can be a pain the the butt; however, once up and running you can’t beat Google Nest! The mesh network technology allows our 30+ devices to connect and stay connected to our in a multi story home covering 3500 sf ft. I added the AC2200 router to replace a stand alone router and to seamlessly connect my existing (3) AC1200 1st generation mesh network. Prior to google nest our devices struggled to get the right bandwidth to function as expected even after increasing internet speeds to highest available in market.

Got this router when mine just died on me unexpectedly before a busy day of online meetings. Went to Best Buy to find a router, and the rep recommended this awesome nest router based on the fact that I’ll be moving soon to a bigger home and it has the ability to be expanded on to increase coverage. Really liked that aspect. And he told me setup would be lightening quick - which it was! Got home and was back online in less the 15mins (and most of that time was unpacking it and moving furniture to plug it in). Definitely recommend it!!!

Replaced an Apple Airport router. Did not need any extension nodes, just this router alone has adequate coverage for our rambler style house. Nice to know that I could extend range though, because it is a mesh system router. Boot up is a little faster than the Apple was. Set up was easy too. It only has 1 wired Ethernet connection, so I had to go wireless on our main computer, as the port is being used for something else. I honestly see little to none on Network speed reduction with the wireless.

      Posted .

Hey there, MarieA! We’re thankful for your feedback on the Nest Wifi. We’re glad that it works, but it’s unfortunate to hear that your experience with the signal coverage has not exceeded your expectations.

The placement of your Wi-Fi router and points is vital to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf. It may also be helpful to try the following steps to see if the connectivity will improve:
      - Move the connected device closer to your Wifi router or point.
      - Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Run a mesh test to confirm placement of your Wifi points.

One of the best WiFi routers, you can pause WiFi, toggle guest WiFi on and off, kick people off WiFi, theses are exclusive to this model: check speed tests with Google Assistant on your phone or google smart speaker, and QR WiFi code with a nest hub. I love the aesthetics of how it looks and the light is dim so it won’t look too annoyingly bright in the dark. The range on this unit is strong enough to cover out whole 2 story house and some of the outside with great signal with only one. Great if not the best WiFi router.

    Best Router, no regrets

My apartment is 975sq feet, with a room on each side, having to work from home, I discovered that the room on the other side of my apt was a dead zone, the signal from my Wi-Fi router was so weak, not only could you not run a YouTube video, my internet was constantly crashing. I found out from my internet provider that their router only covers 300 sq. feet and they recommended a wi-fi extender, I purchased the best wireless extender on amazon, and set it up, the signal was so weak it couldn't even keep a zoom call going without falling in an out. After a lot of research, I bought this Google nest wi-fi router, plugged it into the back of my home router, got instant super speed in the other room, and I could run all computer programs and games with no problem. but every once in a while, the signal still dropped/ got slow. So I bought the Google wi-fi point with Google Assistant, and placed it in that room (this solved the problem), it not only stabilized the signal and made it stronger and faster, it even keeps up with playing Genshin Impact and League of Legends. I have since moved some of my other devices from my home network to the google wi-fi router network, and now nothing crashes anymore. I'm so glad that I no longer have to call the internet provider to reset their port because the internet crashed (which was happening once a month) . I recommend to check carefully the size of your home, before purchasing to determine the amount of signal coverage you need. That will help you decide it you need to purchase the router alone or the router and point set together (which is cheaper then buying each piece individually). My only regret is that I didn't purchase this sooner.

This router is a lifesaver. We returned our Xfinity 2in1 system and bought this router + a Netgear modem and our internet is fantastic. We have 1-gig internet in the Den and our devices used to get 300-500 mbps wireless and 900 mbps wired in the den and 50-75 mbps wireless in the living room. We got this router and one Nest point and we now have near 1-gig wired connection in the den, 500-750 mbps wireless in the den, and 150-250 mbps wireless in the living room.

Great mesh system with a minor complaint or two

Bought a second Nest router to boost 5Ghz signal at the back of the house and back yard as well as to act as a wireless bridge for my PS4 Pro which is known to have unreliable wifi. The Point access points do not have this capability which is why I went with a second router for the mesh system. Setup, like with my main one I bought around Christmas, was extremely easy and straightforward. The Google Home app handles the majority of the work for you and there are only a few steps which are clear and simple. With the mesh system in place, between these two routers I have excellent 5Ghz signal and throughput throughout my 7000+ sq ft lot (and beyond). I've yet to notice any drop when switching between the two streaming video on my phone or doing anything else, so it's about as seamless as I could ask for. My main complaint is that in the process of Google making the mesh system so easy to set up, they've made it too simple for people like me who like to be able to customize the network(s) to a higher degree. There is very little you can actually do with your network once set up, but you are able to see the devices connected, test the throughput between the device and the mesh system, and set a priority device for a specified amount of time. You have no control over the IPs assigned and subnet settings, cannot place devices in a DMZ, or have the mesh set up as a gateway VPN for privacy. The only option with the latter is to have VPN clients on the individual devices you are connecting with which I have done but it does create many more steps than just having the gateway connection perform this task. Overall I'm still very happy with the system and all of my complaints are on the software side so it is possible Google could add these features down the road, though I doubt it.

    Excellent Router for the Money!

Recently I started encountering connection issues with my Google Wi-Fi (original 1st gen) router. The signal strength in my home is somewhat wonky and the bedroom at the far end of the house was struggling to get signal. The only option I could think of was to add a Wi-Fi point in the bedroom to alleviate the problem. Since I had the original 1st gen Google Wi-Fi I knew I was going to need to get a newer unit. My options were A) buy just the access point, which is another AC1200 unit, or B) purchase the AC2200 Router and redo my Wi-Fi with the router as the main unit. I decided on option B. First I had to factory reset my other Wi-Fi points. This was going to be a pain to re-do but worth it (for me) in the end. I set up the router next to the cable modem and then one-by-one I re-added the original Wi-Fi points in each room, and then added the original "router" access point to the bedroom. Now the connection is strong on there and I have not had any issues with dropped or weak signal. Just make sure you don't have too many access points as more is not always better. To give you an idea of what I mean, I currently have a total of 4 points and the router. Previously it was just the 4 points. I am considering replacing 2 points with 2 more of the AC2200 Google Nest Routers so that I hopefully use less Wi-Fi points as the router's AC2200 designation gives it nearly double the signal strength of the AC1200 points. This isn't for everyone and not everyone will need the kind of set up I have but Google really did make the Google Nest Router a better update to the original Google Wi-Fi. My only complaint is that on the multi-unit kits they still include an AC1200 access point. I really wish the access points were AC2200 like the router. Other than that I definitely would recommend Google Nest!

Our old router was making our WiFi slow (we were paying for 300 mbps and getting sometimes as little as .14 Mbps). This router has consistently given us the WiFi speed we have been paying for despite sometimes having 5 people streaming/gaming at the same time. Our house is under 2000 square feet and we have WiFi throughout. I love the way it looks. I recommend this router.

Bought 3 to make a mesh system in a 4400 sq foot house. Easy to set up. No problem with our WiFi appliances and light switches connecting to it. Huge speed and range upgrade. Haven’t noticed a wifi outage in the 3 weeks I’ve had it. The routers have better antennas than the points. No speakers though. They also allow a wired connection if needed. My WiFi range/coverage and speeds have greatly increased compared to my old router.

I just use this on bridge mode due to ATT fiber being the main router. Due to “work from home” issues I wanted to make sure i had something reliable and newer for my WiFi. This guy is as fast as you can get without it being the new wifi6. Wish the access points/repeaters would support bridge mode too but that’s wishful thinking. Should have better support for bridge mode or people who cannot use this as the main router. Solid connection though at the end of the day. Never have to restart or reboot it.
