Over all the Nexus 7 is the best tablet at this price point. I picked up my 16 GB WiFi Nexus 7 for $199 on sale at Best Buy which put it in the same price range as many of the "bargain" tablets on the market. Despite the bargain price, the Nexus 7 feels very solid in your hand. This is not true of many of the comparable "cheap" tablets, some of which feel as if you could easily snap them half. Despite being sturdy, the Nexus 7 is still light enough to allow several hours of use without feeling too heavy in your hand. In addition to the sturdy build and great price, the Nexus 7 has reasonably good screen resolution. While certainly not as good as the iPad Mini, it is non the less very good quality for most uses, especially when you consider it is $100 less than the Mini. The battery life on the Nexus 7 is decent. I typically get 8-9 hours of use on a full charge, with typical usage being e-mail, watching movies, Kindle reader and some games. The front and rear facing cameras are good and have worked without problem. I have used the rear camera for some short videos with good results, and the front camera has worked very well for Skype. Finally, one of my favorite features of the Nexus 7 is the full Google Play store, which is not available on competitors such as the Kindle Fire HDX and others. In addition to the full Play store, the Nexus does NOT include the proprietary interfaces and bloatware included on many of the competing models. In my experience, the proprietary interfaces tend to cause more problems than they solve, and often slow the operation of the tablets. In summary, if you want a bargain priced tablet I would recommend the Nexus 7. It is a great functioning, solid, full featured tablet that DOESN'T include clunky proprietary interfaces or bloatware.

    Almost Perfect Mini Tablet

The new Nexus is exactly what I was looking for in a mini tablet. Excellent screen resolution. Very fast. Perfect size for travel, when you don't want to boot up the laptop, and the smartphone screen is too small to accomplish tasks quickly and efficiently. I had my new Nexus for 10 days, and I was really enjoying it, until it starting rebooting by itself into "safe" mode. At the same time, it wiped out all the folders that I had created to group all the apps I had downloaded from the Play store. Then, the screen started freezing periodically. And like other people, the GPS would work for a while, then lose the satellite signal. I don't have the time or the patience to troubleshoot a brand new product, nor should I have to, so I returned it. I plan on purchasing it again after Google and Asus work out the bugs. From what I've read online, it sounds like the recent software updates from Google may have fixed most of the issues.

Sets a new standard for 7-inch tablets

I wanted an iPad Mini, but did not like the low screen resolution combined with the high price. And though I love iOS, this geek needed an Android device to stay relevant. The build quality is not that of iPad Mini, but fits better in hand and pants. The battery life is decent, though I was disappointed the battery smaller than the previous generation. This was probably done to make the device thinner. A few cool Nexus features, though useless to me: wireless charging and NFC. The best feature of the device is the amazingly high-resolution screen. The 1200 lines of resolution beat out 1080p TVs ten times the size. And this is all for $229 base price. At first I was impressed, thinking too good to be true. As I feared, the limitations of the device are starting to show. For starters, most of the apps are just phone apps blown up to a tablet screen. This creates blurry, low-quality images. Apple tablets are not like this. Secondly, the lack of a home button made unlocking a pain for me. However, I was able to find a smart cover that automatically unlocks the screen - no easy task compared to the plethora of accessory selection for Apple products. Micro USB is nowhere near as easy to use as Lightning. The plug only works one way, and is hard to plug in. You can forget about plugging this in to charge while driving, lest you risk veering into oncoming traffic. This tablet has real speakers, on both sides of the device in landscape - perfect for watching movies. Apple devices have their "speakers" both on one of the small sides, which is basically mono in most cases. Lastly, 16GB is simply too small for a device that can do so much. Google had an opportunity to make 32GB the default; the gold standard by which other 7-inch tablets are judged. I can't imagine an extra 16GB or the addition of an SD card slot would have been much. I'm holding this more against myself than Google, though, as I was given the chance to upgrade to 32GB for only $40. But you don't realize how much you need it until you need it. To conclude, this tablet is perfect for those wanting a 7-inch tablet and do not require iOS. I feel overall, the product is actually better than $329 iPad Mini. I have even watched countless video reviews of Nexus holding its own against full-size iPads in tests. For Apple to compete, it has to release a retina iPad Mini soon.

I originally bought an iPad Mini with Retina Display, but returned it in a week because $400 was just too expensive. I have never owned an Android product before, but after reading many rave reviews of the Nexus 7, I thought I would give it a shot. At $199 I felt very comfortable with the purchase. This product does exactly what I expected, the screen looks great and the battery last a long time. If Android wasn't so buggy and apps didn't crash so much, I would have given it a 5 stars. For $199 you can go wrong though, you can't find a better 7" tablet at that price.

Bought this tablet for my parents who are not tech savvy at all. At first it was hard to get on the Internet but once we got past the initial set up, it's been great. I have them a few lessons and they have been enjoying it since then. The battery life is good and it charges pretty quickly, and they are able to take it most places because it fits in my moms purse or dads camera case. I think it is a great value for the price

The Google Nexus 7 (2nd gen) is a great tablet. Using the Android OS makes it easy to use and upgrade. My only complaint is that there is no expandable memory slot. I purchased it primarily for school use, but couldn't resist jumping on the play store to see what is available. If you use Google Chrome as your browser at home the chrome browser on the tablet will show any bookmarks and most visited sites when you log in. Overall a great tablet for the price.

I am an Apple user primarily and this is my first Android in many years (since my daughter's first Google Phone years ago with T-Mobile.) However, I thought it was time to try it again and my youngest daughter wanted an Android based option for a few aps her friends had she couldn't get on the Apple iPad. The Nexus is the perfect size IMHO but my wife would say it is still a bit too large for one handed use. I like the magazines especially on the device and several aps actually perform better (granted I am now two generations old on my iPad). For the price - it is a great machine. I use airplay a lot around my house though, so this is a major setback for me, but it's getting closer.

As a senior citizen and not being familiar with Android op system I had a really hard time trying to figure out how to use it. There is a basic tutorial on the tablet which helped some but once I found a Nexus 7 for Dummies book in the library, I've learned to appreciate what this little package has to offer. Being light and portable, its just what I needed for travel in an RV (I use a Verizon 4G jetpack with it) For the price its a steal.

I bought this product as a gift for my mother who is not very familiar with tablets. It was very easy for her to use. The relationship between quality price is fantastic. Quality of the image is fantastic, the battery last long, in general very happy with the purchase. I have the last iPad and I was very surprise about the quality of this product

I am a senior and therefore not too tech savy. I had used an Apple Ipod but wanted something smaller to easily carry around. The Nexus tablet was recommended to me for price and having good reviews. I made the mistake of taking it on a trip abroad without really getting all the features down and had trouble connecting to hotel internet. I am sure it was me and not the tablet, but the Ipod appeared easier

Fabulous tablet! Great screen with dynamic and bright colors. Very easy to use. The only negative I have is the power button is very flush and hard to find. This makes me flip the screen around a few times before I finally find it. Little thing but annoying. Other than that I totally love it. Perfect size - great for reading, research apps. Got a nice case with bluetooth keyboard. Perfect!

The Nexus 7 is a must see tablet. Easy to use and learn if you're a first timer. The price is just right and worth every penny. I use it to Skype internationally and sent it along with my parents on their travels to Mexico. Now if they can use it, you can use it! The screen is awesome and compliments the front and back camera's. Enjoy yours!

the unit would freeze before the software update. I had it for 2 weeks and it froze up x3 a week with 1- 2 hr use a day. Since the upgrade no issues. love the screen size, easier to hold than the original nexus 7, less hand fatigue while reading. battery doesn't quite last as long as the original 7 great product for the price

The tablet is very nice. But sincerily, a tablet doesn't do much that a cellphone can't do. The only two advantages are the screen size and the battery autonomy, by the rest, nothing much different from a good smartphone.

I'm an IOS user - had an iPad from day one. I bought this just to play with Android. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. The display is fabulous and it has features the iPad doesn't have like animated backgrounds, Photosphere pictures, widgets on the home screen, and more. I would give it 5 stars except for stability. It's crashed and hung on me a number of times. But I can tolerate that because it's such a fabulous tablet for the money.

I got this tablet as a Christmas present for my dad. He had been ranting on and on about wanting an iPad, but I don't have that kind of money laying around. I watched a ton of YouTube reviews comparing the Nexus 7 to the iPad Mini and was sold. You get a lot for your price. I was concerned my dad would have a hard time getting used to it, since he is already familiar with Apple, but it was very user friendly! It does everything you want your tablet to do and then some! The best thing is that my dad can use it all day for his business needs, and then can easily use it for personal enjoyment as well!

NoI read all I could about the different 7 inch tablets. Decided on Nexus based in most up to date software and impressive screen resolution. First day I used it it would reboot during use and at times would not unlock from the home screen. I read online others were having the same problem. I updated the software to version 4.4.2 and it immediately got much better. It will still reboot completely once in a while. I live with the problem but wish it did not have it.
