After playing with this android tv player for several weeks I was able to "sideload" many games and apps other boxes can't. I got rid of my premium cable channels and it is an awesome gaming counsel. At $50, best price anywhere!

When it was around $100 I was skeptical because of the limited memory space but after the price drop to $50 it is a great value. You can add memory using an otg cable and flash drive and most of the apps and games I have installed can be moved to the flash drive. I keep the bigger ones on the internal and still have about 5 gb of storage internally. I like the voice command feature lets you open any app or search without having to type in the words. The only downside I see is that you have to leave it on all the time. It goes into daydream mode but it is still on. I tried unplugging it a few times and the memory is still there but I have to keep moving everything around to get to the plug or have cords laying around so it will have to stay on for now. I bought the gamepad to go along with it and downloaded a few free games and they work Okay so I will be getting more. Overall I would say 8 or 9 out of 10

THE GOOD The Google Nexus Player Android TV streaming box offers good conversational voice search from the included physical remote. If you use your smartphone or tablet to Cast compatible apps, it provides access to most important services. It delivers Android games to the big screen and is compatible with optional Bluetooth game controllers. THE BAD At launch, native app selection is abysmal compared with that of Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. The interface seems designed to push users toward Google's media services, and voice search doesn't yet include major third-party apps like Netflix or Hulu Plus. Connectivity is sparse, with no Ethernet connection, and the 8GB of storage is too small for avid gamers.

So I have a Roku 3 which we love, but needed something to play movies from my NAS (Roku has a horrific interface for it). I am a Google Nexus lover, had every phone and tablet and pretty much got what I expected from the Player. Like most Google things there are some issues. Apps crash, YouTube randomly fails to load any content, we have to reboot it every other day... etc It plays Kodi great so that is really good. If you want a good NAS player then its a great choice especially for $60 or so. If you are looking for an alternative to a Roku then this really isnt it.

A great product, easy to use, and very simple to setup. However, more apps need to be developed specifically for the Nexus Player. A lot of apps on the Play Store have not yet been optimised for the Player (example: Amazon Prime Instant Video, Vimeo, etc.)

I bought this so I can add KODI to it. I have used it for that function only and it has worked just fine. The controller is simple, maybe too simple but other than that no major problems

Bought this when on sale and also got 20 google play store credit! Totally worth it. Update to the latest OS and you can also use this as a chromecast. The only con is that the remote control lacks of menu button which is not quite convenient in some apps.

I used to use Roku all the time. I got the Nexus player, loaded up KODI and I no longer need cable TV or Netflix. The interface is great and very easy to use. My wife loves it. Best $79 I've spent.

With the new firmware update to 6.0 Lollipop The Nexus Player is awesome. Casting youtube, Netflix, and Pandora works great with the exception of an occasional glitch. You can also side load apps, the Nexus player is very flexible and gives you so many options to tweak it. I would definitely recommend the player.

The sky is the limit for this style of android tv box, and for the price it's not much of a risk in picking one up. So far the app selection is limited, but that should improve as the platform matures. Youtube, hulu and Netflix work very smoothly, as does google music. It's almost worth the cost just for those apps. However I have had some freeze ups, and stuttering when it's running background processes the same time a processor intensive app is running. Having more than 1 gig of ram seems like it would have been a nice addition. When apps misbehave, force closing them through settings might be tough to figure out for the android novice. The platform is young, and I expect rapid growth, but for now it's like a Chromecast on steroids, with no need for a second device, and it has a lot of upside.

I'm a big fan of google products and the android operating system, so I might be a little biased here, but this piece of hardware works as intended and it even has wireless 802.11ac, which if you have the appropriate router will work really well when not hard wired to your network!! My only gripe is that for some apps I use, having a menu button on the remote is really useful but this remote does not have a menu button, very minimal remote, doesn't even have volume control...but you can give it some voice commands, if that's your thing, I rarely use it!! Overall it works great just look for a replacement remote that has more functionality.

I found this item to be harder to use than implied at the store. I find the APPS limited (although all the NORMAL apps works find but you can get them on any DVD/BLUray player build in). I have searched for other APPS but cant quite get the hang of it so it just sits there. A poor purchase for me not worth the time to figure it out as the documentation is worthless. The one thing I can use is streaming from my computer so that's why its not been returned to the store.

I really enjoy using the Nexus Player running Android TV. The design clearly isn't a priority but it blends in with the rest of my TV media devices. The only two gripes I have is that it doesn't do great with multitasking. Play Music slows down intensive gameplay if they're running simultaneously. Also the small amount of apps available is disappointing. There is however the ability to sideload apps- which I have done quite a few times.

My logitech revue was getting long in the tooth and I had a $25 off card, so I picked this up for $50 after taxes. The good: Came preloaded with a lot of apps It's pretty fast, on wireless. I haven't had any video issues. It's small and doesn't use much power. It has a mini usb port. It would be better to have a full sized one. Installing Kodi was just a google play install. The remote is pretty good, but limited. Update to latest version worked well The bad: No optical audio out. Only HDMI. (see below for one solution) No wired ethernet port. (See below for one solution) Default installed apps, and recommendations all over the screen. I removed all the unwanted apps I could, and turned off recommendations. It has enough storage if you use someplace else for storing movies, music... The netflix app will deactivate your account (logs you out) if you are on autoplay next episode. You'll have to re-activate the account. (Netflix is supposedly working on this, it's on their end.) Things I've added to make it useful Kodi (I am getting close to cutting the cord.) My home theater only has hdmi passtthrough, so I bought an hdmi switch with optical audio out. I purchased a wireless backlit mini usb keyboard with touchpad so I could type on it. Purchased a mini B male to USB A female cable to hook up the usb wireless keyboard. I am considering a usb hub with ethernet since it's about 2 feet from my wireless router, I haven't had any wireless issues with it (yet). Other users have.

I love Nexus devices and this one is no exception, however, the marshmallow update has made the device really laggy. Another thing is the lack of app support makes this device limited for streaming movies and light gaming. This device is good, it's just not worth the price.

I have been enjoying this for long time now but I wish it had volume control option for which I had to search for my tv remote. Other than that it's a great player for just $50 bucks. If you can load KOdi then sky is the limit

I'm using this to update an older Sony tv that I wasn't ready to part with. I love Android TV. It's on a newer Sony 65" 900C that I have. It's on near my ASUS router. The video playback on the Netflix app and YouTube app is not smooth. It updated the latest version Android (5.1), but I still have the same results. I really like it, so I'll keep working on trying to solve the video playback issue. Please reply if you know of a fix for this. Thanks!
