If you have Fios, Directv, or anything else other than Xfinity, this would be a great box for you but don't bother if you have Xfinity. You can't log in to any of the TV apps like HBO Go, Fox Now, Food Channel, etc. Before you get this, just go to the activation pages to see if it is really compatible with the device (hbogo.com/activate, etc.)

It's made by Asus, for Google, enough said!! The price drop on this really justifies getting one. Preloaded apps are ok, but can sideload apps you really want. Nice UI, with HD resolution, looks great. Quickly runs apps. Hook up a bluetooth keyboard/mouse, or get an OTG USB adapter to use a receiver, for quick navigation. Works really well for gaming, get the controller, the remote that comes with it is only for basic use.

This was bought to replace a dying WD streaming box. I was worried that the lack of an Ethernet port would be an issue, but we stream Netflix & don't have any problems such as pixelization or pauses to buffer. My son chose it because it plays more video formats than other boxes. The USB port isn't for plugging in a memory stick or other storage, so he rooted it & installed Kodi to unlock that ability. You can even speak into the remote for searches etc. I understand that I can install a browser & have the web on my TV. I just need a BlueTooth mouse to navigate.

It is better than chromecast + fireTV stick for sure, haven't test the fireTV(the $99 one) as the direct competitor to the nexus player so that I have to go with nexus player as it is after all a nexus Android and not Amazon modified Android. Reasons for 3 stars only, because of some functions not working well or lost signal sometimes. Wish the storage was bigger as 8GB is really not enough and there's no SD card slot, and for the better use, you really needs a micro-usb to USB 2.0 adapter + a mouse. As navigating with the remote control wasn't that good especially when you browsing the net.( as I'm able to installed chrome and Google(now).

This is an outstanding streamer. I don't know of any other streaming box that runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The box is automatically updates its self with the latest version of Android. No Flashing required. You can download the latest version of Kodi from the Google Play store for free. The only drawback is the remote does not have all of the buttons needed to access some of Kodi's features

I am a Google fan so going nexus player was a no-brainer. The player has a few glitches with playback but most buffers are few and far between. The update to 6.0 helped eliminate most problems. Great price and slick look.

Best feature is the bluetooth headset connection. You can watch movies with your favorite bluetooth headset and enjoy the movie without disturbing the rest of the house. Has most of the features of the chromecast but adds a remote that makes navigating a little easier. Also has voice search functions so you can ask Google queries without having to pick up your phone. It doesn't have all the nice promotion offers that chromecast has but overall this device being only 15 dollars more than a chromecast is worth the extra bucks

This media player plugs into a free HDMI plugin. The only drawback is no VUDU app but everything else is here even sling tv to drop cable. Put Kodi on it seeing that it works much like a computer and you'll have tons of new content. Have fun

I got this to run some streaming apps instead of replacing my broken Chromecast. Read some articles on Google - you can do a lot with this box which you can't with the Chromecast. Minus 1 star because it asks you to log in to Netflix when casting Netflix from your phone. Also, the remote sucks.

I snagged one of these on sale for $49.99. For the price it is way more versatile and convenient than a Chromecast. I am not a big fan of having to kill my battery to stream video to a chromecast. This has a remote and runs Android TV. Casting is built in so you can still stream if you'd like, but the built in apps and remote are a much better experience. You can also play games, new and emulators, on this device. Note that it has been discontinued so it maybe hard to find.

Picking a media streamer gets down to finding one that supports the services that you want, and plays them well. One of this box's main missing services is Amazon Instant Video, but I have other devices to play that. Note note that not all Android apps work on Android TV boxes, but some can be sideloaded and then work. I wanted this mostly for Kodi which is available as an easy download from the Google app store. I won't review Kodi here (if you already know about it you want it) but will say that unlike an expensive and highly rated Chinese streaming box, this one passes DD and DTS in Kodi without any patches. YouTube and other standard Android apps work great. Google has been continuously updating the firmware and it now has Android Marshmallow. Unless you need 4K support, this is the box to buy.

I own a Chromecast (first gen.), and I am still quite satisfied with it. But sometimes I thought it would be better to have a dedicated remote, and that was the reason why I chose Nexus player over Chromecast 2. This Nexus player is almost same with Chromecast, which is good, and it comes with a remote. But the problem is the remote. Within a month, down key stopped working, so I exchanged it (thanks BestBuy!), and the exchanged one has the same problem: right button needs to be pressed hard. In addition, Nexus player sometimes freezes, three to five times a lot more than the Chromecast that I own. As of today (Dec. 2015), chromecast 2 comes with $20 Google Play credit, while Nexus player does not. Considering all these, (useless remote, almost same functionality with Chromecast, no $20 Google play credit), it is more reasonable to recommend Chromecast 2, which is also a lot cheaper.

Great for viewing media and playing games. Nexus player runs the latest Android software with its own modified layout. This runs android and is limited to the Playstore but works great! It also works like a chromecast for casting screens and sharing media on any HDMI capable TV/Monitor. From Youtube, TED Talks, HBO Go, and more, this is a great product you'll find yourself using more and more. I was hesitant buying at first but am happy I did!

Owned a few Matricom boxes prior to purchasing one of these nexus players. Night and day comparison. So far has functioned flawlessly. Like it so much, bought another for a different room and one for a family member. If you really want full movie streaming functionality, download "kodi" from the play store and get yourself a VPN service. Google them if you don't know what either is. There are countless tutorials online for setting up both.

Bought this to replace a Roku stick that was laggy and horribly un-responsive. This has been awesome. Its lighting fast and applications are wicked stable. Love that HGTV and Food Network have full episodes of shows on their apps - those are the two stations I miss from cutting my cable. Two gripes - Casting is hit and miss when running straight from a device with Android. Casting within Google apps seems to work well. Youtube app occasionally stops displaying videos. Happened twice when first purchased, but hasnt happened since. Maybe its had an update. Overall, a Solid great looking device with some serious promise in the future.
